MCWS Eid Celebration Alhamdulillah our masjid was full and in celebration mode on Eid day this year. There were bouncers, balloon artist, cotton candy, popcorn, mango shake, burgers, face painting and henna. Kids and adults enjoyed the hot afternoon, right after Jummah Prayers on Eid-ul-Fitr. Special thanks to the many volunteers who helped days before Eid decorating the gym for the last ten days in Ramadan and later for Eid. To those who shopped for supplies during Ramadan and to those who spent part of their Eid grilling, making cotton candy, popcorn and mango shake, setting up tents and, the hardest part cleaning up! It made a huge difference to those who do not have open houses to go to, who do not have families to spend eid with, and are not invited to Eid brunches or lunches. We also would like to acknowledge donors and sponsors who made the event affordable to brothers and sisters from diverse backgrounds. We thank Rehabilitation One and the Muslim Enrichment Project, as well as donors who requested to be anonymous seeking only Allah s pleasure. May Allah reward them and all our volunteers and supporters. May Allah continue to bless our community and may we be united in working for His pleasure. Page 3 of 16

Food Drive at MCWS By Omar Waqhar During my medical school graduation, the dean of my medical school said the only thing that is different from you and someone who is homeless is that you got a few more breaks in life than they did. On Sunday July 12th, 2015, during the month of Ramadan, the MCWS community had the ability to reflect on this and give back as a whole. We had the blessed opportunity to give back to people who may not have been as fortunate as us to have the perks to life that many of us, including myself, take for granted. We had the privilege to give back to a population that is often times neglected to the point where ignoring them have become the norm. Driving by day after day we see these signs Homeless & Hungry, yet we feel the impulsive urge to roll up our windows and avoid eye contact as much as possible. The volunteers, who took part, realized that this cultural baseline is unacceptable and we wanted to change it. By God s grace, we had the opportunity to break this cycle. To rise above and show that we as Muslims have not forgotten the plight of people who may be down on their luck. Iftar for the homeless was such a major success that I myself am still shocked at the outpouring of support that we received. Donations after donations came through and what began as humble expectations to make around 30 meals turned into a reality of creating almost 150 meals. On behalf of everyone who took part, thank you! taqabbal allahu minna wa minkum Page 4 of 16
