Residential Dining Location, Location, Location Syracuse University Food Services operates five residential dining centers on campus, plus Goldstein Dining on South Campus These facilities serve over 7,2 students on meal plans Wherever you live, there is a dining center conveniently near you Students on the meal plan may eat at any of the dining centers on campus While all the dining centers have the same menu, we encourage you to try different dining centers for a change of scenery Brockway Dining Center Graham Dining Center Brockway is located in the Brewster/ Boland/Brockway complex and is just a short walk from Lawrinson and Sadler halls Graham, located on Mount Olympus, serves the residents of Day and Flint halls The Mount offers a spectacular view of Syracuse and the top of the Carrier Dome Ernie Davis Dining Center Sadler Dining Center Centrally located and our largest dining center, Ernie Davis serves residents of Ernie Davis, Watson, DellPlain, Kimmel, Marion, Booth, and Haven halls Sadler is located just west of the Carrier Dome, near Lawrinson Hall 2 SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY FOOD SERVICES 25 26

Do you like to plan your meal? Dining center menus are on the Food Services website You can find them under the Daily Menu and Nutritional Analysis button located on the home page The nutritional analysis allows you to see menus, foods with allergens, vegan and vegetarian options, and nutrition information We are working on labeling that will enable you to get nutrition information for each food item 3

Meal Plan Benefits and Services We make every effort to meet the needs of our students To that extent, we offer the following special services and meal options: How Does Your Meal Plan Work? Your meal plan week starts Thursday at breakfast and goes through the following Wednesday dinner Within that period of time, you may eat whatever meals you want at any dining center as long as you don t go over your total meals per week When choosing a meal plan, think about your eating habits and school workload This will help you decide which meal plan is best for you Our dining centers are all-you-careto-eat We offer a wide variety of choices, which can be overwhelming at times We suggest you take smaller portions, then go back if you want to try something else This way, there is less waste should you decide to try another menu item SUpercard FOOD SUpercard FOOD is a declining balance plan, accessible from a magnetic strip on your SU ID card It eliminates the need to carry cash You may use it for all your campus dining needs, including food courts, Goldstein Alumni and Faculty Center Restaurant, campus cafés, Campus Delivery, vending machines, and convenience stores The money is automatically put on your account with the meal plan that you have purchased Additional amounts can be obtained online through your MySlice account Your SUpercard FOOD account is valid for each academic year only and can t be carried over from one school year to the next Scan this QR code to see our video about Supercard FOOD Guest Meals Each semester meal plan participants may use guest meals to purchase meals for guests The number of guest meals you have depends on the meal plan you choose First-year students Deluxe Plan: 24 guest meals 9-Meal Plan: 6 guest meals 4-Meal Plan: 2 guest meals Sophomore students and above -Meal Plan: 8 guest meals 7-Meal Plan: 5 guest meals 5-Meal Plan: 3 guest meals 4 SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY FOOD SERVICES 25 26 Vegetarian/Vegan Options Vegan and vegetarian entrees are available at every meal in all of our dining centers In addition, you will find many vegan and vegetarian foods available throughout the dining centers We are continually developing nutritionally balanced recipes to add to the menu We welcome your suggestions for new recipes Contact us at mealtalk@syredu

Kosher Meals Kosher meals are served every day during the academic year through the kosher kitchen in Shaw Dining Center The kosher kitchen, located in a secure area of Shaw, is supervised and inspected for kosher compliance by a mashgiach under the direction of the Vaad of Syracuse In addition to overseeing the preparation and service of kosher meals, the mashgiach inspects the Food Services warehouse to ensure the kosher products are received, stored, and shipped appropriately The mashgiach also assists in locating vendors for kosher products Halal Meals Halal lunches and dinners are served at Shaw Dining Center upon request Please make arrangements directly with the dining center manager for these meals In Case of Illness When you are feeling too ill to go to the dining center for a meal, you may give your ID card and a note to a friend to take to a dining center They will pick up a meal for you, based on what you want to eat, and bring it to your room The Feel Better Food Pack is a boxed meal for our students who must remain in their rooms or apartments due to illness If you have been told to socially distance yourself due to illness, call 354433 to request meals Special Dinners and Study Breaks Meals To-Go Meals to-go gives you flexibility when you are unable to make it to the dining center during meal time due to scheduling conficts Every student on the meal plan is given a reusable to-go container at the beginning of the school year Use your to-go container whenever you want to take a meal-to-go Return it next time you go to the dining center for a clean one Meals to-go are deducted from the meal plan Give your name, residence hall and room, ID number, and phone number Special dinners and study breaks offer an element of fun in the regular day-to-day menu Many dinners are in conjunction with student groups or are a celebration that corresponds with the calendar year While we always offer late night study breaks during exam times, don t be surprised to see pop-up breaks throughout the year too! Sometimes we just feel like doing something special The Feel Better Food Packs will be dropped off at the main desk in your residence hall Residence staff will assist in meal delivery Food Services will make deliveries to residence hall main desks three times per day: by 9 am, by 2:3 pm, and by 6 pm If you need a meal delivery after business hours, you should contact your Residence Hall main desk You should call each day you feel you will need a meal brought to you Your meal plan will be charged after meals are delivered 5

Nutrition Nutrition Services Syracuse University provides several options for our students who have nutritional concerns Syracuse University Food Services employs a registered dietitian to assist in menu development, provide nutritional information to students, and help plan for an individual s special dietary needs, such as food allergies and other food-related concerns The SUFS registered dietitian can be contacted at 354439884 For confidential nutrition counseling regarding clinical nutrition and body image issues, please contact the staff dietitian at Syracuse University Health Services at 3544395 This service is provided free of charge for students on a University meal plan and those who have paid their health fee Ongoing Nutrition Programming QR Code Labeling Otto s Best Bites Interest in having nutritional information available in the dining centers has prompted SU Food Services to design a labeling system that utilizes QR codes for entrées This program features recipes that incorporate ingredients from various bars and specialty stations in the dining center The recipes include options that are tailored to students who eat a traditional diet along with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free It helps promote creativity, interest, and good health while taking advantage of the wide variety of choices in the dining center Students can download a free QR code reader app on their smartphone that will enable them to quickly scan the codes to display the nutritional information The QR code is a direct link to the nutritional information that is available on the Food Services website The nutritional information also includes the Big 8 allergens (fish, crustacean shellfish, milk, eggs, wheat, soy, peanuts, and tree nuts) that may be in the food Try Me Our Try Me program introduces students to fruits, vegetables, grains, and spices Each month we highlight a specific item or items On the third Monday of the month, the dining centers will have samplings of foods made with the Try Me foods 6 SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY FOOD SERVICES 25 26 Meatless Monday We collaborate with the Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion on the Meatless Monday initiative Each Monday we highlight items on our menu as a suggestion to those interested in trying something meatless We do have many meatless choices on our menu every day; however, we market Meatless Monday as a healthy alternative and a great start to the week

Food Allergies Every attempt is made to meet the needs of students with special dietary requirements We are committed to providing students with plenty of food choices regardless of allergies or intolerances If you have special dietary needs, such as a food allergy or celiac disease, we strongly recommend you contact us as early as possible (ideally, prior to your arrival on campus) so that we may prepare to meet your needs Syracuse University Food Services is happy to accommodate students who have special diets and will continue to serve in this manner If you have food allergies or a special diet, it is in your best interest to: Call 354439884 to speak with the registered dietitian at Food Services prior to your arrival on campus to discuss the specifics of your diet Send a letter documenting your food allergy, food intolerance, or special diet to Syracuse University Food Services, Syracuse University Health Services, and the Office of Residence Life Obtain appropriate and up-to-date allergy medication if prescribed and carry them at all times Wear a medic-alert bracelet or other type of identification that alerts others in a case of an emergency of your allergy Know who to call in case of an emergency: 7 from a campus phone 9 from an off-campus phone #SU from a cellular telephone with local service Food Allergy Disclaimer Syracuse University Food Services treats food allergies seriously Every effort is made to instruct our staff regarding the potential severity of food allergies Syracuse University Food Services works one-on-one with students with food allergies to minimize allergic reactions Please be advised that our menu items may contain allergens or have come in contact with items containing allergens In addition, the possibility exists that food manufacturers may change their formulation or manner of processing without our knowledge Please see our website at foodservicessyredu or contact our registered dietitian, Ruth Sullivan, at 354439884 for more information Syracuse University Food Services will assume no liability for any adverse reactions that may occur in the dining facilities due to food allergies 7

The three food courts on campus offer a wide selection of foods for you, whether you are on the run or want to meet with friends for a leisurely meal Goldstein Dining Kimmel Food Court Monday Friday: 7 2 am Saturday and Sunday: 9:3 am 2 am Sunday Thursday: 6 pm am Friday Saturday: 6 pm 3 am Goldstein Dining is part of the Goldstein Student Center located on South Campus This location is the hub of activity for South Campus students Goldstein also functions as a dining facility for students living in the Skyhalls Food court choices include: Jump Asian Express Cuisine, Sbarro, Burger King, Sal s Birdland, Freshens, Dunkin Donuts, Taste Buds Deli, and Grab n Go items In addition, there are made-to-order salads, a panini and quesadilla of the day, a carving station, and daily vegetarian/vegan specials Goldstein Dining also has theme meals and study break specials along with the dining centers Mastercard, Visa, Discover, SUpercard FOOD, and cash are accepted Students living in the Skyhalls can use their meal plan here GtG Goldstein-to-Go Monday Thursday: 2 2 am (Except University holidays) Goldstein Dining offers an express window for those who crave a latenight snack while enjoying activities in Goldstein Student Center The express window is located at the back entrance near the main dining area Pizza, wings, wedges, deli sandwiches, and beverages are available SUpercard FOOD and cash are accepted 8 SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY FOOD SERVICES 25 26 Kimmel s versatile choices, daily specials, and hours make it a great choice for dinner or late night Satisfy your palate with a variety of sliders from Trios, get a TexMex fix at Queso s, and pick up some essentials at the Fresh Market Other favorites include: Dunkin Donuts, Sbarro, Stiriffic (made-to-order stir fry), Taste Buds Deli, Sal s Birdland, and Håågen-Dazs Mastercard, Visa, Discover, SUpercard FOOD, and cash are accepted Schine Dining Monday Friday: 7:3 am 7 pm Saturday and Sunday: am 5 pm Schine Dining is located in the center of campus in the Schine Student Center It is a great place to grab your morning cup of joe and breakfast from Dunkin Donuts Other food choices include: Sbarro, Fleet Street Grill, The Deli News, Chef s Daily Specials, Salad Bar, and Grab n Go items Order up one of our made-to-order quesadillas, grab a take-out dinner on your way home, or stop by on Friday for the Country Fare Mastercard, Visa, Discover, SUpercard FOOD, and cash are accepted In-house catering for special events is available

Popular Brands You will find the same products in our dining centers and food courts that you use at home We are proud to serve these familiar brand names so your dining experience is an enjoyable one We always welcome your suggestions for new additions to our menu Here is a list of a few of our most popular brands: Fresh Food Policy All units receive daily deliveries of doughnuts, pastries, and bagels that are baked fresh from the SUFS Bakeshop Suppliers deliver produce, dairy products, and breads directly to each location regularly All vendors must meet our stringent guidelines for product quality and preparation Our Main Kitchen Syracuse University Food Services is self-operated We prepare all your food in our central production kitchen or in the individual units While a large portion of the foods served daily are prepared on site in each dining center, our commissary has three large kitchens devoted to making baked goods, soups, stews, specialty salads, and some of our main course items This enables our dining centers and food courts to provide more variety at every meal Syracuse University was one of the first universities to use the innovative process known as cook-chill Soups, stews, sauces, and other items are prepared and heated to the pasteurization point The product is then rapidly tumblechilled in an ice bath The product is maintained at 33 degrees, providing for a 28-day shelf life The food is cooked in 2-gallon kettles, and a computer system monitors the temperature of the product during all facets of the process Cookchill enables us to provide safe, consistent, quality food throughout our dining centers Food Safety Food safety is a one of the most important elements of our operation We utilize HACCP, a Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points plan endorsed by the FDA, as the process by which we monitor and control all sanitation concerns This allows for documentation of all food preparation We work closely with SU s Risk Management Department and the Onondaga County Health Department Management staff and lead employees are ServSafecertified The ServSafe Program, through the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation, is the most recognized food safety program in the industry 5
