1 15 Fundraising Ideas for Kids & Teenagers Idea #1 Money Jar Ask your mom or dad to help you find a jar with a lid. If using a plastic container, cut a small hole in the lid, large enough to insert coins. From now until October, any pennies, nickels, quarters and dollar bills you find laying around the house, put them into the jar. Be sure to check in-between the seat cushions of the sofa, in the car or at the bottom of your school back pack. Make some extra jars and ask your grandparents and other family members to collect their change for you. Take an extra step and ask a friend if their family will collect change in one of your money jars. Be sure to check with your friends and family every two weeks to see how their collection efforts are going. Always thank them for their help! Idea #2 Word of the Mouth Have your parents or teachers ever told you that you have a big mouth? Here is your chance to take advantage of that! Tell 10 people every day about your involvement with The DC Hemophilia Walk. Explain to them that you are trying to make a difference in the lives of bleeding disorder patients. Ask them to sponsor you or join your walk team and raise money. Idea #3 Lemonade Stand You know how to do this one! Idea #4 Garage Sale One man s junk can be another man s treasure! Ask your friends, family and neighbors to clean out their closets, garages and attics and donate any used items to your garage sale. Everyone will be happy to clean out their homes and garages for a GREAT cause! Set up tables and display all your items neatly on the tables. Put up flyers and posters around the neighborhood to advertise your big sale. Make sure you have plenty of small change. Don t forget to tell your customers that all proceeds will go to your charity! Tip: Sell water and soda if it is a hot day. Check with your local grocery store to see if they will donate the drinks!

2 Idea #5 Ice Cream Nights Summer is right around the corner and what is better than ice cream? Organize an ice cream night! Contact a local ice cream parlor or yogurt shop to see if they would be willing to give you a portion of their profits for every customer you bring in on one given day or night. Invite your friends and family by asking your parents to send out invitations. Be sure to also invite all your teammates on your sports teams, school classes and any other organization you and your family are a member of. Not only will you have fun socializing and seeing your friends, you will bring free publicity to the ice cream shop. Make sure you or your parents contact the manager of the location you are planning your event well in advance so you can fill out any paperwork that is needed. Idea # 6 Letter Writing Campaign Draw a picture and write a short letter to your coach, Sunday school teacher, pastor, etc. explaining your involvement with The DC Hemophilia Walk and your team s financial goal! Explain why you are walking and why it is important. You don t even need to buy stamps. You can deliver your letters in person. Don t forget about writing a letter to your friends parents too! Idea #7 Restaurant Night Many restaurants will donate a portion of their sales on a certain day for everyone who comes to their restaurant with a flyer for your charity or receipt for their purchase. Contact the restaurant and ask them to allow you to sign up for a night to have your friends and family come and eat. Ask your parents to also invite their friends, co-workers, etc. When you go to the restaurant to eat you will do everything you normally would, but you deposit your receipt in a box by the cash register, and you will receive a portion of the profits for that night. The more people you invite and encourage them to come, the more money you can make. See the list of restaurants that offer restaurant nights on the HACA website. All you need to do is set up a date with the restaurant. Then go eat! They will send you a check. Idea #8 Glow Sticks

3 Sell tubes of those kid-favorite glow stick, necklaces, and bracelets for a fraction of the cost. Vendors will sell them while making money for your Walk team, and saving money for those who buy them. A great website to purchase from is Idea #9 Parking Spot Auction off a prime parking space on your school s campus for a lucky student who can park in that prime space for a week. For example, auction off the head of school s spot for a week. The head of school would then park in the spot the student normally parks in. Idea #10 Mural of Memories Approach your head of school and student body about securing a wall in a school building for a mural. Allow students, faculty and staff to hand print the wall for $5. This allows those participating to have a stamp on the school forever and reminds everyone how important your efforts are. Idea #11 Pie in the Face Easy to organize. Get a group of friends to help you with this or ask your sport team or organization for assistance. Get coffee filters as pie containers and buy whipped cream as the filling. Use white whipped cream not chocolate! Ask people to donate $5.00 to give a pie in the face to a member of your team or organization. Easy as pie! Idea #12 Bake Sale Today s moms and dads are more than willing to help you whip up favorite treats from the kitchen. Why not use home-baked treats to make some money for your The DC Hemophilia Walk? Design and send home flyers asking parents to bake one or more of their favorite treats to sell. Sell the delicious treats for $0.50 per cookie or brownie, $2.50 per loaf of bread, etc. Decide on a location for your bake sale and package your items nicely so they will stay appealing Idea #13

4 $100 in 10 Days 1. Make your $10 pledge first (offer to do chores around the house) 2. Ask your mom for a $10 donation 3. Ask your dad for a $10 donation 4. Ask your grandparents for a $10 donation 5. Ask your aunt for a $10 donation 6. Ask your uncle for a $10 donation 7. Ask a friend for a $10 donation 8. Ask a neighbor for a $10 donation 9. Ask another neighbor for a $10 donation 10. Ask a teacher or coach for a $10 donation Idea #14 Birthday Gifts Birthdays are always an exciting time of year for all of us! If you have a birthday coming up, ask your guests instead or in addition to a gift, that they contribute $5 to your The DC Hemophilia Walk fundraiser. Many times the gift will be much larger than $5. Idea #15 Car Wash Are you on a soccer, basketball or softball team? Ask your coach or leader if he/she would help you organize a car wash. Ask all your team members to make posters, bring along car soap and towels and spend the afternoon washing and drying cars with your friends. Don t forget the chapter has The DC Hemophilia Walk signs you could glue to your posters. Ask for donations for your efforts. This will be a wonderful community service project as well as a team building event for you and your teammates! Tip: Most fast food restaurants and 7-11 s will allow car wash events to be held on their property if they are properly supervised. Make sure you have access to water close to where you are having patrons park their cars.
