General Trends With 2015 fast approaching, investment in technology has been at the highest levels we have seen since the GFC. Organisations are investing equally in permanent and contract staff. There have been some key areas of growth, which are often linked. These have been: Digital: UI/UX Front End Web Developers with responsive web design & native. JS skills (i.e. Bootstrap). Mobile Apps developers for both customer facing and internal corporate applications across Android and ios devices. Security: demand for cybersecurity professionals has remained consistent with the largest demand now for candidates experienced in securing internal networks to allow staff to Work from Home, Bring Your Own Device and/ or environments which have had cloud components. Mobility: with Activity Based Working and Working from Home being embraced by many employers, the increase in technical staff to build robust secure environments to support these initiatives has risen dramatically. This has impacted security, design and support teams. We have also seen investment in key cloud based services increasing the needs for those with security skills around these. Information Management: Big Data continues to be the buzz word as it gains definition and value within businesses. Companies are continuing to build upon their capabilities from targeted marketing, financial reporting, and inventory management through to customer retention. Specifically the increase in staff has been for Data Management Professionals and Developers with direct experience on big data technologies such as Hadoop, MapReduce, Pig, Hive etc. Data Visualisation has seen two keys areas of large demand. Web/UI Developers working in tandem with analytics teams to make data a visual experience. Data Visualisation through BI tools such as Tableu or Quikview Payments: from mobile apps, to payments platforms to the New Payments Platform (NPP) demand has increased especially for Architects, Technical Project Managers and Business Analysts. Largest demand is from Consulting. Infrastructure Architecture/Design: this is true for large firms which had outsourced their infrastructure. We are seeing a growing trend back to insourcing their infrastructure design/architecture functions to retain and build upon their internal IP and maintain control over infrastructure technologies, spend and deliverables. Cloud: those with technical expertise in IaaS/PaaS and domain experts who can help configure/implement key SaaS products are in high demand. As cloud technologies mature, with cost decreases and many security/personal concerns being alleviated through market experience, demand for Sales/Pre-Sales staff by vendors has never been so high. This has also been a year of increased focus in gender equality in technology. Nearly all of our clients are requesting a gender diverse mix of candidates when presenting talent for roles as they do their upmost to address diversity within their teams.
