3 Welcome to our IT and Business Change Salary Survey 2014! During 2013, the IT and Business Change market continued to perform very well in what is generally seen as an improving jobs market in line with the economic environment. We found that the key areas in demand included candidates with experience in Data Analytics, Software, IT Security, SEPA, AIFMD, Mobile and Digital Online. The hiring process for a number of IT and Business Change roles is a lot quicker than previously, and clients may run the risk of losing out on ideal candidates if they do not maintain momentum. In 2013 there was a higher level of contract roles compared to permanent, but this was beginning to change in Q and into Senior Executives Organisations are increasingly looking for IT & business strategists with management skills, operating experience and overall vision to lead them into the new technological age. Roles such as Chief Digital Officer, Head of Analytics & Head of Digital are now becoming part of the landscape. Data Analytics - Business Intelligence / Data Management - ERP/CRM In the last year companies are really becoming more aware of the value and importance of data as an asset - business intelligence, data management, data analytics & data integration. The management of this data has become more visible and crucial. Head of Data Analytics, BI Consultants. Datawarehousing specialists, data analytics experts, data analysts and Database developers are all therefore in high demand. Online Digital Technology is everywhere these days, from the apps that consumers use to download information and search for deals online, to social media and mobile technology. Hence the emergence of the roles of Digital Officer, Online Programme Manager and Digital Content Manager. We expect these types of roles to increase in popularity over the next 12 months and for other roles to spring up in this developing field. Software Development / Design / QA / Testing / Localisation There remains high demand in all core programming areas such as Java, J2EE, C#.Net. Strong UI developers and JavaScript experts, Ruby & Python developers remain very much sought after as do Android and ios developers. The Java contract market has shown signs of decreasing, with a rise in contract workers taking permanent roles with medium sized software houses. Database developers & Oracle developers continue to be difficult to source, with most working on a contract basis. On the permanent side, PL/SQL Developers are in greater demand and this competition for vacancies means that permanent positions are more attractive. Developers with financial experience are in demand. Test leads and managers are in high demand, in particular automated testers with specific industry experience such as financial services. ICT / Infrastructure / Support / Security Following a strong 2013 Virtualisation & Cloud Computing is continuing to be a huge trend. There is a high demand for permanent candidates with VMware, Cloud Computing, Datacentre, Virtualisation & Hyper-V expertise. While there were roles for IT Project Managers, Service Delivery & Applications Support Managers they were highly sought after; hence there was a lot of competition. On the contract side there are plenty of roles for candidates with Cisco/CCNA/CCIE qualifications and/or Microsoft/Windows experience. The area of IT Audit/Risk/Security has seen a significant increase in activity in 2013 and we expect this growth to continue in Many consulting practices and companies in industry have been seeking skilled professionals to conduct projects relating to organisation s security and compliance policies. Business Change In a rapidly changing economy and with a focus on margins candidates with strong Business Change, Business Transformation and Process experience were in demand. With an increasing number of industry regulations and new directives, there remains a demand for programme managers, project managers and business analysts with experience in specific sectors including Financial Services, Pharma, IT, Manufacturing, Gaming amongst others. In conclusion, the Irish IT, Business Change and Software job market is continuing to improve and many companies are cautiously optimistic about the year ahead. For now, salary levels look set to rise and with many new emerging roles and areas in the field of IT and Business Change, the sector remains very much a work in progress.
