WEDNESDAY Megan McCormick is the NY Lead Trainer for Centris Group with responsibility for the IEP Direct, Medicaid Direct, Document Repository and Medicaid Direct-CT products. Prior to joining Centris, she was a Director of Special Education for a small city school district, Director of Special Education and Student Services for a rural/suburban district (with more Impartial Hearings than she cares to remember) and a CSE/CPSE Chairperson for a rural district, all located in Western NY. Megan has over eight years special education teaching experience as a Resource Room Teacher, Self-contained Classroom Teacher and Consultant Teacher in districts and BOCES. Megan graduated with her B.A. Elementary Education from Saint Michael s College in Vermont, a Master of Education in Special Education from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from SUNY Brockport. Jack Kamins is currently employed by the Centris Group, the creators of IEP Direct. Prior to his current position he has served as a teacher, school psychologist, director of clinical training, director of special services and assistant superintendent of schools for psychological services and special education. He has been involved in numerous professional associations. He provides training on the Centris Group products to school districts across New York State. THURSDAY Jeanne Kincaid is a nationally known disability lawyer and consultant, representing public schools, colleges and universities nationwide on a host of disability and special education issues, including the physical accessibility requirements imposed by the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act. Jeanne has been a special education hearing officer and mediator for the State of New Hampshire, and has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of New Hampshire s Graduate School of Education, Antioch University and Franklin Pierce Law Center. Jeanne worked in an advisory capacity with AHEAD, a national organization with membership consisting of higher education staff that coordinate services for students with disabilities. She has held staff attorney positions with the U.S. Department of Education s Office for Civil Rights, the Oregon Department of Education, and served as a hearing officer for the Oregon Bureau of Labor and the New Hampshire Department of Education. She has been a contributing author to Section 504, the ADA and the Schools and Disability Compliance for Higher Education.
FRIDAY Dr. Vicki L. Mingin, for twenty years held the position of Executive Director of Special Education and Student Support Services for the Huntington School District. She previously served as a Special Education Coordinator and a Special Education Teacher at Finley Middle School. Dr. Mingin attended the University of South Florida where she received her BA and MA Degree in education and an Educational Specialist Degree in Administration and Supervision. She obtained a Professional Diploma and her Doctorate from Hofstra University. Dr. Mingin is currently teaching at SUNY Old Westbury, St. Josephs College and consults regarding special education matters. Prior to her position in the Huntington School District, Dr. Mingin served as a Special Education Teacher in a Residential Treatment Facility where she specialized in working with students with severe emotional disabilities. In addition, she was appointed Director of the National Youths Sports Program (NYSP) in Tampa Florida and developed the first NYSP for students with disabilities in the country. On Long Island and throughout the state of New York, Dr. Mingin is regarded as an expert in the field of Special Education Law and presents at various local and state conferences. Within the Huntington School District through her leadership, the following programs were implemented: Integrated Co-Teaching, Direct Instruction Reading Programs, District-wide Behavioral RTI Program and a Job Shadowing Program for students with intellectual disabilities. She has served on a number of professional committees including the State of the State Address on Autism, and piloted the New York State IEP. She maintains membership in several professional organizations, and is a professional advisory board member for Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (CHADD) and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). Dr. Mingin s doctoral dissertation was titled A Case Study of One School District s Use of Root Cause Analysis. Dr. Lydia Begley accepted a position to join the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in Nassau County as Associate Superintendent for Educational Services in the fall of 2011. In this newly created position, she oversees the departments of special education, technology, curriculum and instruction and is a lead evaluator for principal evaluation. Prior to joining the Nassau BOCES, Dr. Begley served as the Superintendent of the Wantagh School District, located on the south shore of Nassau County. Dr. Begley has been an Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Personnel and has worked as an elementary principal, middle school assistant principal and classroom teacher. Dr. Begley has had experience teaching and working at all grade levels in public school and since 2001, has been an adjunct professor in the Educational Leadership Program at Adelphi University. She is past president of the Hofstra chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, past president of the Nassau Association of District Curriculum Officials (NADCO), a member of the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and the New York State Council of School Superintendents (NYSCSS). Most recently, Dr. Begley has received for the UCEA Excellence in Educational Leadership Award. Dr. Begley earned her Ed.D., P.D. and M.S. at Hofstra University and B.A. from C.W. Post College at Long Island University. In addition to teaching courses on supervision, evaluation and research at the university level, Dr. Begley presents at local, state, and national conferences on leadership, women in the superintendency, as well as on instructional issues regarding integrated skills and curriculum mapping. Both a practitioner and researcher, her scholarly and research interests include gender issues and women in the superintendency.
