The Department of Curriculum and Teaching offers graduate and undergraduate programs leading to advanced preparation and/or initial certification in elementary education, secondary education, early childhood education, and bilingual education. The department is committed to the preparation of scholar-practitioners to serve students from diverse populations. The faculty is dedicated to collaborative interaction and the democratic process. Currently, the department has 21 full time, tenure track faculty members. The Department of Curriculum and Teaching is seeking an Assistant Professor for General Methods and Curriculum in the Secondary Schools. Responsibilities include: 1. Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in general methods currently required in the teacher certification programs. 2. Teaching graduate courses in curriculum design and multicultural education, as needed. 3. Supervise graduate and undergraduate pre-service teachers in the schools, as needed. Qualifications: Applicants should hold an earned doctorate in curriculum and instruction or a closely related field. Previous experience in teacher education is preferred. Candidates should have successful secondary classroom teaching experience. Candidates should be committed to multicultural education and the opportunities of teaching in an urban/suburban environment. Urban/cross cultural teaching experience preferred. Candidates should give evidence of their commitment to the research and scholarship responsibilities attendant with appointment at a major university. A background in general elementary curriculum and content specialty such as mathematics, science, language arts, or social studies is expected. Experience in multicultural and urban education is preferred. Successful elementary school experience and a manage of curriculum development are essential. The position will include: 1. Teaching general curriculum and analysis courses as part of the teacher certification program for graduate and undergraduate students. 2. Teaching methods courses to graduate and undergraduate students as appropriate, given the preparation of the candidate. 3. Supervising graduate and undergraduate pre-service teachers in the field sites, as needed. We are seeking a teacher educator with expertise in educational technology and integrating this field among math, science and technology education areas. The position will require evidence of a commitment integrating math, science and technology instruction in a teacher education program. The responsibilities include: 1. Graduate and undergraduate courses in math, science and technology education 2. Working with students in field supervision placements as necessary. Departments include Literacy Studies (LYST), Curriculum and Teaching (C&T), Health Professions and Family Studies (HPFS), Physical Education and Sport Sciences (PESP), Foundations, Leadership and Policy Studies (FLPS), and Counseling, Research, Special Education and Rehabilitation (CRSR) The Department: The CRSR Department envisions its mission as the preparation of counselors, special educators, therapists and gerontologists dedicated to enhancing the development and effectiveness of those individuals and groups with whom they work. Department programs embrace a number of disciplines including counselor education, special education, rehabilitation counseling, creative arts therapy, educational research and evaluation, and gerontology. The faculty includes 13 tenure track positions and should increase to 15 in At present, there are two full time tenure track faculty lines assigned to rehabilitation counseling and administration programs. The CRSR Department offers programs in Rehabilitation Counseling and Rehabilitation Administration. We have a long history of RSA training grants in these fields and are a CORE accredited program. Duties include the following: Teaching graduate rehabilitation courses including career counseling, job development and placement, assessment and evaluation, or independent living Supervising field experiences including practicum and internship Advising master s and advanced certificate students Conducting scholarly research Participating in University and community service Potential coordination of RCE Program Qualifications: Applicants should hold an earned doctorate in rehabilitation counseling or a degree in a closely related field with a master s degree in rehabilitation counseling from an accredited program. The successful candidate will be a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) or eligible for same. Recent experience in rehabilitation counseling and/or administration is required. We are a member of the University Council of Educational Administration. The appointment will be in the educational administration program in the Department of Foundations, Leadership, and Policy Studies. The Educational Administration program offers an M.S. in Educational Administration, administrative certification leading to NY State licensure, and the Ed.D. in Educational and Policy Leadership. As a program, we are a group of faculty committed to maintaining and enriching our diversity. We believe in the importance of community and strive to develop a supportive environment that will facilitate personal, professional, and educational growth of faculty and students. We further believe that developing and enacting outstanding leadership programs is a collaborative process and requires us, as faculty, to engage in a sustained conversation to assess and enhance our performance. We are seeking an individual who will work closely and effectively with program faculty, with students, with other professional colleagues, and with schools and community agencies to pursue an agenda of social justice and educational accomplishment. Our program focus is preparation of educational leaders for P-12 schools; the majority of our students whether certificate or doctoral work in those settings. Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a doctorate, evidence of leadership accomplishment, and potential for undertaking scholarship. A history of involvement in and sensitivity to the needs of under-served and/or underrepresented groups in prek-12 settings is particularly valued. The position requires teaching in both the administrator preparation and the doctoral program. In addition, the successful candidate will work with interns and be involved in connection with the field, serve on dissertations, be active in professional organizations, and conduct and publish research. 8 ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF LITERACY STUDIES departments are staffed by 68 full-time faculty members. Teacher education programs are accredited by NCATE. The Department of Literacy Studies offers graduate programs leading to teacher certification in literacy studies birth to grade six and grades 5 through 12. Additionally, the department offers joint master s programs with special education. The department, moreover, offers a post master s professional diploma in Reading and both Ed.D. and Ph.D. programs in Reading, Language and Cognition. The department includes eight full time, tenure track faculty and is growing. Seeking a colleague who values an opportunity to work collegially with faculty and students in shaping the future of a newly formed Literacy Studies Department which is committed to the exploration of issues of literacy and social justice in both teaching and scholarship. 9 ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION PHYSICAL EDUCATION PEDAGOGY departments are staffed by 68 full-time faculty members. Teacher education programs are accredited by NCATE. The Athletic Training Program is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The Department: The Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences offers graduate and undergraduate programs leading to the Bachelor of Science degrees in Physical Education, Athletic Training, and Exercise Specialist. Our largest program is the Master of Science degree leading to initial teacher certification. PESP programs account for 19% of the total student semester hours yielded by the School. The faculty currently includes ten full time positions and nine tenure track lines. The department is seeking an Assistant Professor with an earned doctorate in physical education pedagogy or a closely related field. Responsibilities will include teaching courses leading to initial certification in physical education including some combination of the following: 1. Secondary school teaching methods 2. Teaching individual and team sports and/or adventure activities 3. Coaching methods 4. Field supervision as needed Qualifications: Applicants must present an earned doctorate and successful school based teaching experience. University teaching experience and/or field supervision are preferred. The successful candidate is expected to advance a scholarly agenda and produce, in some combination, evidence of scholarly publications, research, conference presentations, and the continuing professional development of physical education teachers. Previous experience in collaborative research, university service, advisement and community outreach are desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to providing a positive learning experience for students from diverse backgrounds.
