To me, this entails a wide range of happenings. In my personal life, the lawn will need mowing at least once a week to keep the neighbors happy, the deck will need power washed and organized to keep the picnickers happy, and vacation is just around the corner to keep me happy! In the mail center, my home away from home, the inventory needs revitalizing, the files need revamping, and mail boxes need attention (out with the old and in with the new), and last but certainly not least, the budget needs a fine tuning in order to achieve my goals for the coming year. I plan to scrimp a bit here and there and hopefully come up with the registration fee for the 2010 Conference in October. I know it will be worth my time and funds! Thirty-three years of mail time and I am still learning new and adventurous tricks of the trade. Some of these mail adventures are enticing and exciting, making my daily workload easier, but some are quite daunting. I go to conferences to learn the enticing and exciting aspects of the mailing future then I conspire with my peers on how to accomplish these adventures and keep the hurdles less daunting. Join us and be a Survivor of the mail future. Susquehanna University will be offering you a fantastic deal on this conference. So, tweak that budget and join us! Hope to see you in October, Dee Cohick President of Middle Atlantic Region of College and University Mail Services WWW.GO.ORG From the President PS. Watch for more on the conference on the list serv and in the mail!

However, the Postal Service will delay implementation of revised price eligibility until Oct. 3, 2010, as it works with mailers to assure flats preparation that is compatible with USPS processing and handling. The new standards reduce flats droop by 1 inch less than currently allowed. If a flat is too flimsy, it can result in poor feeding and jam postal automation equipment, as well as cause inefficient handling in delivery operations. May 2011 Only IMB qualify for automation rates. Business Reply Mail and Courtesy Reply Mail may have a POSTNET barcode until May 2011. After May 2011, the use of Intelligent Mail barcodes is required. Qualified Business Reply Mail (QBRM) letters and cards, and Permit Reply mail pieces will be required to use Intelligent Mail barcodes. - Originally scheduled for May 2010 date however is now postponed until May 2011. News: -New Holiday Evergreen Forever Stamps will be available in October at the current rate of 44 cents. Possible postage increase to 46 cents on Jan. 2, 2011. -USPS is proposing a 10 year action plan: Overview of the seven main areas where change is needed: Retiree Health Benefits Prefunding, Delivery Frequency, Expand Access, Workforce, Pricing, Expand Products and Services, Oversight.

Page 5 Membership Spotlight Michelle Mindziak, CMDSM, MDC, MQC The Pennsylvania State University Manager of Addressing, Mailing, & Delivery Services Michelle previously worked for the USPS for 6 years, where she was a BMEU Technician. I came to Penn State in September of 2002, and am currently the manager for addressing, mailing, and delivery services. I will have been here 8 years this coming September. I am responsible for 7 campus mail routes, incoming and outgoing departmental mail, and addressing services. We have a variety of equipment that we process mail on. We have 4 Pitney Bowes DM1000 meter machines, 2 Philipsburg 6 station swing arm inserters, 3 folder nester sealers, a Cheshire machine, Kirk Rudy Netjet inkjet machine with a recent upgrade to inline tabber to meet the most recent USPS requirement for 3 tabs on booklets, and a Pitney Bowes Flowmaster, which is what we have deemed our dream machine. I think the thing I enjoy the most about my job is educating new designers on mail piece design. I also enjoy finding solutions for our customers to meet their mailing needs. The two go hand in hand. They come to me with a budget, and a design, and when they realize their design is going to cost them more than they have budgeted for mail, I enjoy educating them about how they can save money if they fold it down to a letter instead of keeping the piece as a flat, or if they make something a self mailer rather than put it in an envelope, also educating them on address hygiene. I love bringing folks in for tours and demonstrating to them all of our capabilities, especially when they have personalized mailings, and they see how our FlowMaster can read a 2D barcode and match the names and addresses and insert 12,000 pieces an hour. That s work they bring in automatically to us when they realize they don t have to do it by hand in their office and that we save them money by doing it for them because we ve automated a process that once had to be done manually. My most recent accomplishment is getting my CMDSM certification in Atlantic City, at MailCom. My next accomplishment will be the Philly Half Marathon in November provided I stick to my training. I have had so many memorable moments here, but I think the one that sticks out the most was the feeling me and my team had when we finally got our FlowMaster on the workroom floor. We were like kids in a candy store uncrating it! We couldn t wait to get it up and running and to start marketing its capabilities around campus. We were excited for departments to send us test materials and come tour our floor and see it in action! Two years later, I think we all still have the same feeling about it when we get to talk about it and show it off. My husband, Bill, is a letter carrier with the USPS (that s how we met) and together we have 5 children. My oldest is my step son, Derek, who lives with us, he is 15. Then my husband and I had our first daughter, Marlena, who is now 8 and the reason I left the USPS to come to Penn State. I wanted to have more time with her and more flexibility in my schedule. Then along came Madison, our second daughter, who is now 5, and then in an attempt to have a son of our own, we had twins, (when they start coming out two at a time, it s time to stop), a boy and girl, Bohdan and Meadow, who are now 2, soon to be 3 on June 22 nd. So work/life balance is important to me. My husband and I both work full time, have 5 kids, and are constantly running from one school function to another, but we wouldn t have it any other way. It keeps us young. We are all very close and call ourselves The Maniak s. We received this message from Michelle on June 14, 2010. I wanted to let you all know that effective June 24th, I will no longer be with Penn State. It has been a bitter sweet decision, one that I have put a lot of thought into for quite some time. Unfortunately, they will not be filling my position here. I'm taking July to spend some much needed time with my family. After that, who knows...maybe I'll be back with another of our fine colleges or Universities, maybe I'll be back with the good ole USPS where I began my mailing career, or just maybe I'll hit the lottery and be on a permanent vacation. :) Whatever the future holds for me, and wherever I end up, I have no regrets. Michelle will be greatly missed! -Michelle Mindziak/Dana Kemberling
