Remote Desktop Accessing Your Towson Windows Vista/7 Computer Remotely From a Mac OTS PUBLICATION: RD REVISED 0-0-04 TRAINING@TOWSON.EDU OFFICE OF TECHNOLOGY SERVICES =Shortcut =Advice =Caution Introduction The Towson Remote Desktop feature allows faculty and staff at Towson University to connect remotely to their Towson computer from any other computer (e.g., home, hotel). Once connected, you will see the desktop of your office computer, just as if you were actually sitting at the computer. These instructions are for faculty and staff using off-campus Mac computers to connect to their Towson Windows Vista/Windows 7 computer. For faculty/staff with off-campus Windows computers, use the Remote Desktop Gateway by visiting: http://remotedesktop.towson.edu Process Summary Introduction Remote Desktop Feature Preparation. Find the Name of your Computer (host) Connect to Remote Desktop from the Virtual Workspace Log Off of Remote Desktop Remote Desktop Feature Preparation There are some things you need to do to your office computer (host) prior to trying to connect to your Towson computer (desktop/laptop) remotely.. Find the name of your office computer (host).. Leave your computer powered on at Towson (it may be logged off). Find the Name of your Computer (host) Before you can access remote desktop, you must know the name of your host computer.. Click the Start button.. Click All Programs.. Click Towson System Information (Fig ). 4. The System Information dialog box will appear (Fig ). 5. In the middle of the dialog box you will find the Computer Name (Fig, ). Connect to Remote Desktop from the Virtual Workspace You may access Remote Desktop from the Virtual Workspace. In order to log into the Virtual Workspace, you may need to first load the Citrix software (you will be prompted to do this if the software is not already loaded).. Open your Internet browser and in the address bar type vw.towson.edu and press ENTER.. The Towson University Virtual Workspace Log In screen will appear (Fig ).. Type your TowsonU Username (NetID) and Password (Fig, ) under Log in. 4. Click the Log In button (Fig, ). Figure 5. 5. Under Applications, click Remote Desktop (Fig, ). The Citrix client will load. Figure 6. The Remote Desktop Connection dialog box (Fig ) will appear. Type your computer name in the box beside Computer (Fig, ). 7. Click the Options button (Fig, ). Figure
8. The Remote Desktop Connection dialog box will appear (Fig 4). Click the Experience tab (Fig 4, ). Figure 4 9. Select Desktop background, Font smoothing and Desktop composition (Fig 4, ). Make sure all other options are de-selected. 0. Click the Local Resources tab (Fig 5, ). Select Printers (Fig 5, ) if you want to send print jobs to the printer in your office.. Click the More... button (Fig 5, ) to select options to use plug and play devices and click OK. Figure 5 4
. Click Connect (Fig 5, 4).. The Remote Desktop Connection dialog box (Fig 6) will appear. 4. Beside User name: type TOWSONU\your user name (Fig 6, ). 5. Log Off of Remote Desktop Once you have completed your work using the Remote Desktop, you will need to log off the remote desktop.. Click the Start button (Fig, ) and click the right arrow (Fig, ).. A menu will appear. Click Log Off (Fig, ). Figure. To log off of the Virtual Workspace, click the Log Off button (Fig, ) from within the Applications window. 4. The Logged Off dialog box (Fig ) will appear. Figure Figure 5
