FALL 2014 Credit unions, members gear up to celebrate International Credit Union Day October 16, 2014 ach year on the third Thursday of October, credit unions around the world join together to celebrate International Credit Union Day. This year, Credit Union Day takes place October 16. International Credit Union Day OCTOBR 16, 2014 Westoba Community fundraising Throughout the summer months, many Westoba branches host fundraiser BBQs for the charity of their choice. Below are photos from a few of those events: 200+ million people worldwide choose a credit union Connect Using #ICUDay Credit Union Day began in 1948 as a way to acknowledge the credit union movement s history and celebrate its achievements. The goal of the day is raising awareness of the work credit unions do locally and internationally. WestProtect and Phillips Insurance Agency Join Forces Here at Westoba Credit Union, we contributed over $350,000 back to the community in 2013 by way of a cash donation or sponsoring local events and community projects. So when should you start? And how? An RSP is a tax-sheltered education savings account that allows you, your family and friends to save for your child s post-secondary education. There is no annual contribution limit with a maximum lifetime contribution limit of $50,000. By opening an RSP for your child, he or she is eligible to receive funds from the Canada ducation Savings Grant (CSG). Through Carberry Branch hosted a BBQ on June 13 and raised $662 for the Carberry Food Bank. Pictured above is the cheque presentation. the CSG, the government adds an additional 20 per cent on your contributions, up to an annual maximum of $2,500. This means that if you contribute $2,000 a year to your child s RSP, the government will kick in an additional $400 per year. Heart & Stroke Foundation presents ADs to Westoba communities This spring, Westoba staff visited four Westoba communities that were recipients of Automated xternal Defibrillators (ADs) from the Heart & Stroke Foundation. This was in thanks to the 50th Anniversary $10,000 grants awarded in 2013. Sean Crawford, Manager of Philanthropy for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, awarded each community location with a plaque. So when should you start? And how? An RSP is a tax-sheltered education savings account that allows you, your family and friends to save for your child s post-secondary education. There is no annual contribution limit with a maximum lifetime contribution limit of $50,000. By opening an RSP for your child, he or she is eligible to receive funds from the Canada ducation Savings Grant (CSG). Pictured above is the cheque presentation. the CSG, the government adds an additional 20 per cent on your contributions, up to an annual maximum of $2,500. This means that if you contribute $2,000 a year to your child s RSP, the government will kick in an additional $400 per year.
