Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership (THEBP) JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Marketing, PR and Comms Manager 12-month fixed full-time contract at 30,000 per annum. STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE: Tower Hamlets EBP (THEBP) is an independent charity that supports the education, training and development of young people in Tower Hamlets by forming mutually beneficial partnerships between businesses and schools. We deliver a range of programmes which help young people to raise their levels of achievement and aspiration, gain relevant employability skills and develop an understanding of the world of work. Our programmes provide City of London and Canary Wharf firms the opportunity to engage with the local community, deliver their employee volunteering strategies and fulfil their wider corporate social responsibility agenda. We have been in existence for 25 years and never had a formal marketing or communications strategy. Publicity needs are currently met by a freelance publicity officer. After a change of Director we have been through a strategic review, restructured our organisation and changed our constitution in preparation for a geographical expansion of our work. It is vital that we raise our profile to achieve this. Our envisioned future is to be recognised by educators and employers as the market leaders in developing the employability skills of young people. We want to be the partner of choice for employee volunteering in education, with programmes running nationally. We developed our new vision: All young people in Tower Hamlets will learn more, do more, become more. In addition, for the first time, we have created a vision focused on our businesses: 1

Making volunteering what it should be: Easy, enjoyable and enriching. Our strategic priorities have been set at: Priority Increase revenue by 10% to 1.1 million Expand our programmes into a wider geographic area, eg other London boroughs or other UK inner city areas Implement new CRM systems & investigate metrics Develop an account management approach for businesses and schools Assess and innovate our programmes to ensure we deliver our dual purpose vision. THE ROLE: This 12 month fixed contract, full time. There may be potential to extend the contract beyond this initial 12 month period. Start date is early April 2016. Working hours are 9am 5pm Monday to Thursday, and 9am 4pm on Fridays. Some flexibility will be required to cover events that may fall outside of these typical hours. The successful candidate must complete an enhanced DBS form and be approved to work with children. CONTEXT We would welcome your ideas on how the marketing, PR and communications aspect of THEBP might be delivered. The successful candidate will work as part of the overall THEBP team with specific responsibility for the areas outlined in the Job Description. These areas may change through negotiation with the THEBP senior management team. 2

OBJECTIVES FOR MARKETING & PR Develop campaigns to support fundraising and feed the new business pipeline Position THEBP as a thought-leader in education and skills debates in the UK Increase THEBP s digital profile, improving digital assets and content in order to engage influencers Establish and deepen relationships with influential figures in the education, skills and social policy spheres MAIN DUTIES: The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for designing and delivering an organisation-wide marketing and communications strategy. Strands include: Marketing Co-ordination and integration of marketing activity across the organisation Supporting the maintenance of our client and prospect database for lead generation Running the content management of our website, as one of our most important marketing tools and first point of contact for many of our supporters. Generating leads from supporter database to help fundraising initiatives. Producing marketing collateral such as brochures for schools and businesses. Ensuring consistent and coherent branding and message across all activity Press and Media Developing our annual Communications Plan in conjunction with the Senior Management Team. Managing the promotion of stories proactively seeking means of raising our profile nationally utilising the wide range of key staff and stakeholders. Developing and managing the delivery of campaigns as outlined in the Business Plan; particularly for projects which we are growing as nationwide initiatives. 3

Developing and maintaining excellent working relations with the press and media partners, increasing engagement with key education and national media Extending stakeholder engagement to establish long-term relationships with key policy, central and local government contacts Overseeing our monthly online HeadsUp bulletin which is sent to key contacts. Digital and Social Media Generating awareness of THEBP and key issues related to its work, and drive traffic to digital assets through online marketing and communications Developing, implementing and optimising online income opportunities Developing strategies, tools and applications to increase supporter conversion, engagement and retention Evolving and maintaining our account strategies across all major social media platforms: Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google+, etc. Developing programmes to identify and engage key online influencers SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND QUALITIES PR and Digital Skills The successful candidate should have 3 or more years worth of experience working in public relations, digital or marketing communications. The jobholder should have experience in managing PR and marketing campaigns, preferably in the third sector. He/she should be able to generate press contacts, particularly in the world of education and business media, and demonstrate ability to pro-actively secure opportunities for THEBP executives around the relevant national news agenda. The job holder will be comfortable with digital marketing tools and able to find innovative ways to raise THEBP s profile, and engage influencers. 4

General Skills The jobholder should possess project management, interpersonal, planning, negotiating and organising skills. The candidate must be a self-starter who can use initiative to identify priorities and develop schedules of work without supervision. He/she should have excellent analytic skills to understand and manage how data can be captured and presented. His/her written and oral communication should be of an exceptional standard and they must be comfortable and confident in making presentations to groups of people and conducting one to one briefings. The post holder must be confident talking to people at all levels of seniority. It is expected that they will liaise with community affairs executives and senior Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) managers among THEBP s corporate partners He/she should have experience of Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint and educated to degree level. Ideally the jobholder should be familiar with the education sector and have knowledge of business education activity, or have a specific interest in it. The successful candidate will be ambitious and entrepreneurial, seeking an opportunity to define and experience all elements of marketing communications. CONTACTS The jobholder will liaise with people from businesses at all levels. The jobholder will establish relationships with businesses who are potential funders of the work of THEBP so an awareness of the funding strategy will be essential. The post holder will be line managed by the Director of THEBP This is a 12 month fixed full-time contract, to preferably start early April 2016.
