The flexibility of the latest print head technology is outstanding. Thanks to the grayscale method, even resolution meets our requirements. Productivity now has reached a passable level by the single-pass configuration of the print heads. But our main problem is color control. Some images look right at first shot. Others need to be tweaked manually by time-consuming image editing. Following a trial-and-error approach, we get closer to the desired result but this process is very slow. Often this eats up the time advantage that digital production should give us. ColorGATE SmartControl for Industrial Printing SmartControl is a fully customizable all-in-one software solution by ColorGATE for the industrial printing sector. The client server based SmartControl can be controlled via the SmartControl-DFE (Digital Front End). Modules 1-Bit-TIFF-Input-Module 1BITM The 1BITM provides a simple and reliable method for processing incoming 1-bit TIFF-files for creating halftone proofs and de-screening of input data for impositioning proofs. In this way, documents can be verified prior to printing in order to avoid incorrect artwork. The 1BITM is an ideal solution for customers in packaging industry, but also for pre-press workflows in other areas. Adobe PDF Print Engine APPE ColorGATE includes always the latest APPE for a smooth end-to-end, highly automated PDF workflow for digital, offset and packaging printing and provides therefore many advantages in PDF data handling and color management. We are continuously broadening the choice of print products for our customers. The application oriented modules for Productionserver have served us several times to simplify optimize our production workflow. Mahesh B., All About Printing Color Atlas Module CAM The CAM improves the quality of a specific replacement color for any input color by printing adjacent color patches that illustrate grouped color gradations of the possible replacement color similar to the concept of a color swatch. By means of the real visualization of the color gradations, now the decision on the replacement color can be taken visually according to the natural color perception. Color Replacement ColorGATE function for color and spot color replacement with direct measurement device integration enables optimal automatic or manual replacement of any input color or color range (RGB, CMYK, spot) with CMYK and L*a*b* colors. Additionally, the gradation behavior of spot color can be controlled. Color Server Module CSM The CSM enables automatic color space transformation of all supported input file formats (PDF, PS, TIFF etc.), taking into account versatile DeviceLink functions for separation such as: separation maintenance, reduction of ink consumption, black generation and black handling, preservation of pure colors for primary and secondary colors as well as duplex and triplex. 39

Computer to Screen Module CTSM The CTSM produces high-quality 1-bit TIFF-data in all required resolutions, also considering CTS-application-specific requirements. Container + Applying the container function it is possible to gang several print jobs in the container into one collective job (nesting). Afterwards they can be arranged either optimized for cutting or optimized for material savings. ColorGATE container function clearly exceeds classical nesting functions by offering scores of additional functions that increase effectiveness and handling in daily production. ColorGATE enhanced the range of functions with Container + and improved the operability at the same time. Cost Calculation Module CCM The CCM enables a precise calculation of job-related consumption of ink before printing, also considering material and additional costs. Reports can be generated (HTML/CSV), which provide a transparent overview of costs and simplifies the quotation process. Additionally, consumption reports per specific printer or per a defined period can be obtained. Device Link Profiler Module DLPFM Device link profiles a special version of ICC profiles are used for specific color transformations in the color management workflow to produce most accurate print data. They ensure that quality and color accuracy of a print job in the aspect of matching a reference or a standard are improved significantly. This profile creation tool is wizard based and allows an iterative approach to reach the optimal result. Component of Profiler Suite Express Profiler Module EPFM EPFM allows the creation of new ICC profiles that are based on existing profiles fast and easy for output devices used in production. Its use is recommended if for example a new substrate has similar properties as an already profiled media. In this manner, creation of new ICC profiles will be accelerated significantly without significant quality sacrifices. Component of Profiler Suite Filmgate Module FGM The FGM complements ColorGATE RIP software Productionserver 8 with the functional range of the worldwide leading RIP software Filmgate 8 for chemical free film production with inkjet printers for screen, litho offset, flexo and pad printing in high-end quality. G7 Calibration Module G7CM The G7CM for Productionserver 8 (PS8) is an easy to use calibration module which creates high quality and G7 compliant curve calibrations. The calibration and evaluation process involves just a few simple steps and requires no extensive color management. The G7CM and the PS8 are officially certified as a G7 certified System by the IDEAlliance. Gamut Viewer The Gamut Viewer enables meaningful two- and three-dimensional (2D/3D) comparisons of different color spaces. A further feature is the option to illustrate the containing colors of a print job as a 3D point cloud within the selected profile gamut. This procedure visualizes which color areas of a job are within or outside of the color space. Hotfolder ColorGATE hotfolder technology enables fully automated output according to predefined settings and the cross-platform processing of print jobs. This enables users to automate workflows of a virtually unlimited complexity, whereby individual modifications can still be made to the process at any time. There is no limit to the number of active hotfolders. Hotfolders can be added at any time, as needed. Ink Saver The Ink Saver can reduce ink costs up to 30 percent without any visual losses in quality. Other advantages include a stabilization of the printing process, improved grey balance, and shorter drying times. Ink Saver has been used successfully for several years by many customers, so we strongly recommend the standard equipment for a environmentally conscious, eco-friendly and cost effective production. In-RIP-Trapping Module TRAPM The TRAPM ensures elimination of flashes in the print image due to process-related registration errors in multi-color printing, which can occur during printing process. JDF Interface Module JDFM JDF- (job definition format) interface for direct data exchange in workflow systems in accordance with international industry standards is based on the markup language XML. In this way, it is possible to control order parameters via external systems and to provide important information about the production progress. 40

Linearization Assistant The main task of the spectral value based linearization assistant (wizard) is to create printer- and media-specific linearizations with the aim that all print system employed primary and process colors behave linear or equally in all steps over the gradation from 0% to 100%. This linearity of the process color gradation fulfills an optimal pre-condition for a printing system to be profiled at its best. Media Device Synchronization MDS With the innovative recalibration technology MDS a printer can be reverted to a reference state. In addition, MDS allows fine adjustment of identical printers in the event of system- or environment-related deviations. Beyond that, multiple identical systems can be matching each other in a way that identical results can be achieved when printing on the same substrate. Fine adjustment is based on an ICC-profile, for consistent color results at any time. Multicolor Profiler Module MCPFM MCPFM enables assistant-guided creation of ICC profiles which support additional gamut extending ink channels like CMYK O(range)/G(reen) or CMYK R(ed)/B(lue). Component of Profiler Suite Optical Disc Decoration Module ODDM ODDM simplifies the workflow for printing optical data media. Optical Disc Decoration Profiler Module ODDPFM ODDPFM simplifies creation of ICC profiles for printing optical data media. The module is compatible with the Eye-One io spectrophotometer for fully automated measurements. Output Management Set OMS Product configuration with Output Management Sets (OMS) provides considerably more flexibility than any other solutions we know in on the market. OMS enable a variable consequently optimal configuration of any production environment when referring to the type of printers as well as to the scope and size of the production environment. See also page 12 13 Photo FineArt Module PHFM The PHFM replaces the Photogate Module PHGM. It includes numerous functions to process digital photographs and FineArt prints, such as 16-bit rendering for the output of photo and art prints as well as FineArt reproductions in highest quality. Functions to generate neutral greyscale images, individual effect shading and color adjustment to compensate for ambient light for an optimal FineArt presentation despite specific lighting conditions. Additional functions to define cut marks and frame thickness for canvas frame production and automatic scaling to the frame size selected. Plategate Module PLGM The PLGM complements ColorGATE RIP software Productionserver 8 with the functional range of the Plategate 8 and therefore enables computer to plate (CTP) production with inkjet systems, as well as the chemical- and exposure-free plate production for the offset market. Print & Cut Module PCM The PCM is the optimal solution for cutting, routing and finishing materials like wood, plastic, synthetics, leather and textile. PCM enables an efficient contour cutting and a precise finishing from POP displays to industrial applications. Printer Status Monitor Displays in the RIP software all major status messages of the used printing system, if supported. Status messages such as, printer status, media width, ink level, ink usage and information about the heating cycle. Nature and extent of the status messages are based on the functionality of the connected printer. Printer Driver ColorGATE is one of the worldwide leading developers of printer drivers. Profiler Module PFM PFM enables comfortable, assistant-guided creation of professional ICC profiles. Supported targets based on measurement device selection and print mode: Color- GATE CMYK and RGB, ECI2002, IT8-7.3, IT8-7.4. Comprehensive functions to ensure appropriate settings for black generation (GCR, UCR, Black Start, Black Width), black point (Black Point mode, Black Max, Total Ink) and neutral or color boost gamut mapping. Component of Profiler Suite Profiler Suite PFS The Profiler Suite bundles the six powerful modules Profiler PFM, Multicolor Profiler MCPFM, DeviceLink Profiler DLPFM, Express Profiler EPFM, Reference Profiler RPFM and TVI Calibration Module TVICM into one complete package at an attractive price, enabling highly professional color management. Proof Standard Digital Module PSDM The PSDM replaces the Proofgate Module PGM. Proof Standard Digital Module enables contract proofing according to international color standards such as ISO standard 12647-7 as well as according to the reference level of FOGRA 39. As part of the release version 7.20 the control wedge evaluation process has been adjusted to the ProcessStandard Digital (PSD) specifications. Quality Assurance Module QAM The QAM is a fully integrated quality assurance system for the digital imaging market, which allows control, documentation and archiving the consistency of color. A simple traffic light symbol (green, yellow, red) clearly indicates the quality of state. In combination with the MDS recalibration technology QAM becomes a really powerful quality assurance tool. Queue A queue manages the print jobs that shall be passed on to a printing system. Transfer is based on FIFO principal (First In - First Out); however, the order of the print jobs can also be altered manually. Using queues, management of print jobs and efficiency of printing systems can be controlled optimally. RIP Process In the RIP process, PostScript, PDF and raster formats are converted into systemspecific screen/raster data for output on printing systems. ColorGATE is one of the world s first suppliers who used RIP software to solve additional major challenges in color management and in raster separation. A further characteristic of the ColorGATE RIP architecture is the parallel processing of multiple RIP instances to scale the processing speed. Screen Print Proof Module SPPM The SPPM ensures output of color- and dot-accurate digital proofs with appropriate inkjet printers by simulation of print results of screen printing machines. Additionally, the ColorGATE Productionserver 8 and the Filmgate Module FGM are needed. Tiling The Tiling function enables wizard-based or manual segmentation of large print jobs into separate tiles. Overlaps and gaps can be defined per segment. Settings that once have been made can be saved to be applied with future jobs. Trim Nesting Module TNM This module manages the automatic placement of various print jobs on the printable area and adds synchronization marks for automatic roll cutters ( e.g.: Fotoba, Flexa etc.) to trim and finish the prints. TVI Calibration Module TVICM The TVICM complements the existing color management tool sets with the tonal value correction (TVI) well known from ISO 12647-2 used in offset printing. Analog to offset printing standard compliant print results can be achieved by using dot gain correction, standard ink and matching a paper specific TVI target. TVICM offers the possibility to calibrate conventional printing presses in heterogeneous production environments via tonal value correction. Component of Profiler Suite Reference Profiler Module RPFM The RPFM enables creation of ICC profiles and simulation of the color gamut for output devices, which cannot be controlled directly by ColorGATE RIP software. Profiles can be used as reference for image data transformation in a color server workflow or the use within external imaging software. Component of Profiler Suite 42
