It integrates knowhow developed for prepress technology with various functions that make fully automated workflow and highspeed variable printing possible. 3 Workflow The right information to the right people at the right time with just the right number of copies Opening up a new era in printing with EQUIOS Printing was originally developed to quickly and accurately communicate large volumes of identical information to a large number of people. However, this role has changed dramatically with the diversification of personal needs and the rapid adoption of electronic media such as the Internet. Along with variable printed materials such as invoices and credit card statements, direct marketing materials including advertisements have become a key point of focus. In addition, expectations are high for the printing of new high value added materials such as small lot book production and album creation starting from single copies. Conventional printing methods lead often into over production and eventually disposal of printed items is required once information becomes outdated. Print On Demand is ideal approach to solve this situation, which produces exact quantities where and when they are needed. The prepress and printing experience accumulated by Dainippon Screen over many years combined with state-of-the-art inkjet printing systems answers the needs of this new era. Latest Adobe PDF Print Engine core 2 Operation from single user interface EQUIOS is equipped with the latest Adobe PDF Print Engine core 2 to maintain compatibility with the latest versions of Adobe products. This software also maximizes the performance of variable printing systems, which require high-speed processing of large volumes of data. EQUIOS, universal workflow, features smart single user interface that drives both CtPs and POD devices. Operation for EQUIOS is designed to be easyto-use and seamless between different processes and devices. Users can enjoy fully professional functions in easy operation, as well as optimized automation that compensates gaps between processes and process dependent skills, thanks to Screen s cultivated knowhow such as Job management, CIP4 certified imposition scheme and color management system. Smart Variable Data Processing function EQUIOS features a function that automatically recognizes re-usable elements and assigns them to a background layer. The background layer can be output repeatedly without re-riping. This significantly improves processing speeds for large volumes of variable data, since only the altered portion needs to be RIPed. Smart Variable Data Processing saves time and ensures the fastest possible output. RIP The shared elements are computed just once and then cached. PDF Variable elements Only the variable elements are computed page by page. The shared elements and the variable elements are merged page by page.

4 Advanced Color Management System The EQUIOS Color Management System first converts all the elements in a job to the targeted color space, such as Euro Standard or Japan Color. It then automatically selects the appropriate ICC profile according to paper types and output devices. Thanks to the EQUIOS Color Management System, the specialized skill is not required to get professional results. PlateRite Smart Imposition: optimal impositions, whatever the binding method EQUIOS is equipped to handle not only a multitude of impositions for book binding specifications including saddle stitching, and perfect binding from a single paper roll, but also provides accurate and easy layout functions for accessory items such as crop marks and barcodes required for post-press processing. It s a full support system for high quality print production with rapid turnaround. EQUIOS provides precision support for varied customer needs, such as ondemand book production, which has been attracting increasing attention in recent years. Automatic output of various bar code types (Code 39, Code 2, ITF) is also available as an option. Even when waste (damaged paper) occurs after the completion of printing, Smart Imposition allows reprinting to be handled smoothly and reliably.
