My Career Path: the early days; software & system Software Developer (1997) C Coding of roaming and international dial services C Coding of user interface for banking services terminal Systems Engineer (1998-2001) Application software to enable CDMA network services such as handing of dialing digits, subscriber service profile, circuit-switching for voice trunks of fiber network, over a live system in HK Handling of contingency plan, service procedures, support backup with international counterparts during software and system upgrades Telecom Consultant (2001-2002) IT Framework & Strategy planning for mobile operators; draft value proposition and service offer to improve IT architecture through software (middleware) offers Field Application Engineer, embedded software (2002-2006) Demonstrate embedded software development tools (compiler, linker, debugger) performance over different embedded platforms (MIPS, ARM, x86, Power PC etc) to customers 4
My Career Path: building business experience Field Application Engineer (2002-2006) Commercial achievement as measured by design-win using specific product platforms that relied much on Presentation skills Technical know-how Inter-personal skills Seeing things from customer s angle Feedback of customers relay to product designers Price and cost reality 2003-2005: took M.Sc. Engineering Enterprise Management program in HKUST a mini-mba program with focus on technical management Technical Sales Manager (2006-2011) Pitch by technical capability of products, hands-on demonstration of product design and operation Achieve sales target in a team environment Aggressive but with analytical strategy was required Manage engineers remotely and conduct executive reviews 5
RS Components the present role Head of Technical Marketing in APAC Develop technical promotion programs to build awareness and business People Management of different staff types Multiple regions, language, culture, style Formulate business strategies of how to enlarge market share, establish tactics for different teams Identify business opportunities and communicate properly with stakeholders Making use of technical elements to obtain business orders E.g. Demonstrate latest open-source Arduino technology in building an industrial automation system containing hundreds of components 6

RS Components Hong Kong Internship Program Aim: students learn to make the best applications out of components and development boards sold by RS Components Students learn to create gadgets in full-time internship, or to conduct research on technological topics to create technical content for the benefit of design engineers Full-time Internship: Starts in January, May, or September Duration: 4 months Hands-on electronics projects Examples: Raspberry Pi modules, mbed Internet of Things, Kinect WiFi Car, Arduino Photo Frame Part-time Internship: Starts in April or September 8 hours in office per week Build Chinese technical content and assist in full-time projects Achieve weekly submission of technical articles or content 10
