School of Management Professor of Family Business and Entrepreneurship Family business and entrepreneurship is a priority area for strategic development in the School of Management. Key developments include the establishment of the Centre for Family Business and Entrepreneurship and the Bath Entrepreneurship in Residence Programme. The Chair in Family Business and Entrepreneurship will be expected to develop and lead the Centre for Family Business and Entrepreneurship. External funding is currently being sought for the Centre in a major fund raising campaign lead by the Development and Alumni Relations Office. In the initial stages the Chair in Family Business and Entrepreneurship will be supported by a new post in entrepreneurship. The post will be located in the Strategy and International Management Group offering the successful candidate the opportunity to work in a vibrant and supportive scholarly community with an outstanding international reputation. The School of Management is committed to high quality research and outstanding teaching and learning. The School s Programmes The School attracts a thriving community of around 2,200 high calibre students from around the world together with a faculty of over 90 academics and an administrative staff of around 70. Best known for the quality of its research, the School offers a range of programmes which provide a solid foundation in the key business disciplines for students from undergraduate to postgraduate/post-experience level. The School offers three undergraduate degrees: the BSc (Hons) in Business Administration (BBA), the BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance, and the BSc in International Management and Modern Languages (IMML). The Strategy and International Management Group The Strategy and International Management Group is a dynamic research-oriented group of scholars who publish regularly in leading international journals, such as the Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of International Business Studies, the Journal of Management Studies and Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice. Committed to continuously enhancing the quality of our research, the group provides a mentoring scheme for junior faculty, is developing a vibrant community of PhD researchers, and runs a seminar series with visiting speakers from leading institutions worldwide. While the research interests of members of the group are diverse they share a common commitment to the development of a contextualised understanding of strategic and international management practice. As a group we thereby seek to combine strong disciplinary foundations with openness to cross- and interdisciplinary approaches. Regionally, the group currently has particular strengths in western and eastern Europe (Mayer; Meyer; Novelli; Stadler) as well as Asia and emerging economies (Fai; Meyer; Rao; Thompson, Xia). The City Living in Bath The World Heritage City of Bath is one of the most interesting, elegant and vibrant cities in the UK. The city is known for its many beautiful buildings and the natural hot springs which gave the city its name. From the historic Roman Baths to the contemporary Thermae Bath Spa, the city has a unique blend of architectural heritage and modern living. Bath is home to several excellent museums and galleries, and hosts various arts festivals throughout the year. There are over 150 restaurants, cafés and traditional pubs set within a great range of shopping from high street stores and small specialist shops to a flea market. Bath is a beautifully green city, adorned with floral displays and bounded by wooded hills. The mainline railway means London is within easy reach and the nearby motorway connects Bath to the rest of the UK. Bath has an excellent range of schools with a wide choice of secondary education. There are numerous parks, play areas and open spaces including the wonderful Royal Victoria Park, one of the first public parks in the country. Bath is surrounded by magnificent countryside and interesting places. Stonehenge, Salisbury, Wells, Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge, Oxford and Bristol are all within easy reach of Bath. The city offers many enjoyable outdoor activities. You can take a boat trip on the River Avon, walk beside the Kennet and Avon Canal or make use of the superb sports facilities.
