As well as the Author role you may have a Reviewer role that is used when you carry out peer reviews. 1 Logging in After entering your username (not case sensitive) and password (case sensitive) click on the [Author Login] button When you log in for the first time will see this message: And be taken to the Update My Information page (See Updating your My Information on page 2) 1.1 Send Username/Password Will send you your Username and Password if you have forgotten or mislaid them: 1.2 Register Now Allows those not already registered on the system to register. 2 Updating your My Information Required fields have their labels in red and have an asterisk against them. You may set your own username and password. Note 1: Your password will be visible to system administrators. Note 2: If your username is already in use on the system you will be told. If you also have a Reviewer role you can choose which is your default login role. In importing up your telephone numbers the following convention has been used Phone Label Number Primary Home phone Secondary Work phone Fax Mobile phone Please rearrange your telephone numbers so the one you would want to be used to contact you is in the Primary box and so on. Set the is for radio button as appropriate. The Fax Number box can be used for a 3 rd phone number but we don t want to have a Fax number. Please provide at least two e mail addresses separated by semicolons (;). E mails generated by the system will be sent to all e mail addresses provided. We suggest that if necessary you set up a rule automatically to put e mails from the system into a separate folder. Preferred Contact Method should be set to E mail. Without this you will not receive notifications. Click on the [Alternate Contact Information] button to set the date range and alternative contact details for that time period. Set Address is for as appropriate. If you have a Reviewer role (see the available Default Login Role above) you will be included in any search for people with that role on the system. If you set the Available as a Reviewer radio button to No you will not be included in these results. 20120705 Author Login and updating My Information Page 2
Indicating your areas of interest or expertise: Use the [Edit Personal Keywords] button to add at least 3 and no more than 10 keywords. Note 1: Keywords are used to identify your areas of particular interest and expertise and thus whether you may be suitable to write on a subject or provide the review of a book or website and so it is important that these are as accurate and comprehensive as possible. Please also enter both abbreviations and synonyms for the Keyword with the keyword. Note 2: A Keyword can be a phrase or a complete sentence or even a brief paragraph. Keyword information will be viewed by the Editor when choosing a Reviewer. Setting your Unavailable Dates. As well as setting your Out of Office message within your e mail client we would recommend that you log in to the system to set the dates during which you will be unavailable by clicking on the [Unavailable Dates] button. If you do this your unavailability will be displayed when you are being considered as a possible reviewer. Additional Information questions. 3 The Navigation Bar 3.1 Home Takes you back to the login page 3.2 Logout Logs you out of the system. There is no session timeout on this site but it is good practice to log out when you have finished your session 3.3 Help Launches Editorial Manager s own help pages in a new window. Not for novices or occasional users! 3.4 Register Opens the registration page and allows those who are not already registered to do so. 3.5 Update My Information Click here to update your profile, to indicate when you re not going to be available to do reviews and any alternative address details you may have. 3.6 Journal Overview Link to Nursing Standard website homepage. 3.7 Main Menu Takes you to your dashboard. The page on which you can see the state of all the submissions with which you, in your role as Reviewer, are associated with. 3.8 Contact Us Link to Nursing Standard website contact us page. 3.9 Submit a Manuscript Takes you to the login page 3.10 Instructions for Authors Link to Nursing Standard website author guidelines page. 3.11 Role dropdown Allows you to select the role with which you are logged into the system. 4 Entering Keywords Keywords are the way in which Editors will identify your areas of expertise and specialisms and consequent suitability to undertake reviews in particular subject areas. It is therefore important that these are as accurate and comprehensive as possible. Please also enter both abbreviations and synonyms for any keyword together with the keyword. A keyword can be a phrase or a complete sentence or even a brief paragraph and up to 256 characters in length. Click on [Edit Personal Keywords] to launch the Keywords dialog box. To add a new Keyword or phrase, type into the into the New Keyword field and click [Add]. The system requires you to enter between 3 and 10 such Keywords. Click [Close] when all you ve finished entering your Keywords. Note: If the Editorial Office has set up Personal Keywords as a requirement, users must enter the minimum number of Keywords indicated. 20120705 Author Login and updating My Information Page 2
