Sample Performance Assessment SPA#1 Engaging Scenario You are preparing a portfolio to demonstrate your abilities as an entry level Graphic Artist. The potential employer has asked you to present samples of your work to be considered as representative of your ability. You must present the work as two each isometric, perspective, and multi-view mechanical drawings. In addition, you must include a small business packet including original designs for a business card, letterhead paper, prototype packaging, and a magazine or WEB advertisement. You must also submit a written statement that describes your creative and technical process. In your written statement you must include a description of any problems you encountered and how you resolved them. Visual Arts Competencies Addressed in SPA#1 Students will apply appropriate media, techniques, and processes Students will understand that creation of original work is essential in the visual arts. Students will understand that works of visual art are alternative forms of communication that generate a variety of responses. Students will understand that visual arts can be analyzed and evaluated. Students will understand that there are connections among the arts and other disciplines. Students will understand that the visual arts impact everyday life. Students will create works that use the elements of art and principles of design to solve specific visual arts problems;
A Design Project : Using the Principles and Tools of Graphic Design CATEGORY Use of Class Time Used time well during each class period. Focused on getting the project done. Never distracted others. Graphics -Clarity Graphics are used effectively and have strong impact on the total design. Graphics - Originality Attractiveness Required Elements text used on the design project reflect an exceptional degree of student creativity in their creation exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout, and neatness. Dominance, rhythm, size, etc. The design project includes all required elements as well as additional information. Used time well during each class period. Usually focused on getting the project done and never distracted others. Most graphics are used and generally have an impact on the message of the design text used on the design project reflect student creativity in their creation and/or display. attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness and demonstrates an understanding of the use of design tools. All required elements are included on the design project. Used some of the time well during each class period. There was some focus on getting the project done but occasionally distracted others. Most graphics are focused on the message of the design project, but could have been used more effectively by virtue of size or location, rhythm, etc. text used by the student, but are based on designs or ideas of others and don't demonstrate original ideas acceptably attractive though it may be a bit disorganized and does not demonstrate a clear understanding of layout: dominance, size, rhythm, balance, etc. Some of the required elements are missing or not clearly defined Did not use class time to focus on the project OR often distracted others. Graphics fail to convey the meaning of the design project and there is a lack of understanding demonstrated by poor sizing or placement. Graphics and text do not demonstrate any original thought or creativity. distractingly cluttered or devoid of necessary elements and very poorly designed. It is not attractive. Many of the basic elements of design are lacking. The poster does not demonstrate understanding on how to use design tools.
