4 The Space Media Group (SMG) From Vision to Concept Artistic Vision has been very important in the aerospace industry. Sketches and drawings have been known to shape the future of the actual design. Aerospace art is not only valuable for those behind the project; it also excites the public and the press. It is true that an image is worth a thousand words and can convey a story to complement the charts, diagrams, and technical work created by engineers. The Space Media Group at SpaceWorks endeavors to follow in the footsteps of early visionaries such as Robert McCall by creating art that is at once realistic, evocative, and visually striking. The SMG assists internal and external customers with concept visualization services ranging from technical illustrations to computer-generated imagery to full animations. The SMG employs full-time and part-time staff members and an extended network of freelance artistic talent such as digital artists, illustrators, graphic designers, animators, modelers, and voice talent. 4
