St. Raphael Catholic School Grade Level Teams Kindergarten Mrs. Ann Weaver. Mrs. Weaver received BS degree in Elementary Education and Reading Certi:ication for grades K- 12 from East Carolina University. She taught Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grades in public schools in Virginia and North Carolina before coming to St. Raphael Catholic Schools. She was the Reading Resource teacher at St. Raphael from 2000-2009. Mrs. Weaver returned to Kindergarten in 2009. Mrs. Linda Ware. Mrs. Ware has been a Kindergarten Assistant at St. Raphael Catholic School. She has her BA from Central City Business Institute, Syracuse New York/Finger Lakes Community College. Mrs. Christine Schumann. Mrs. Schumann has been teaching Kindergarten at Saint Raphael Catholic School for :ive years. Throughout her twenty year teaching career, she has taught many grades including: Pre- K, Kindergarten, First, and Third. She graduated from Towson University with a Degree in Early Childhood Education. While attending college, she also studied abroad at Bishop Grosseteste College in Lincoln, England. In the State of North Carolina she holds a professional license in Birth through Kindergarten and Elementary Education (Grades K- 6). She is also certi:ied by the State of Florida Department of Education in PreKindergarten/Primary Education (Age 3- Grade 3). Ms. Mary Morgan. Mrs. Morgan, starting her sixth year as Kindergarten Assistant, has been a parishioner at Saint Raphael since 1999. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Virginia Commonwealth University and has worked in advertising both for agencies and while running her own company. Mrs. Morgan works part- time at Williams- Sonoma teaching cooking technique classes to adults and children and teaches summer camp at SRCS. While not in the kindergarten classroom, she is Mom to her children, Sarah and Wills, who have been students at Saint Raphael since 2- year- old pre- school at the Early Childhood Center; they are now in 8th grade and 4th grade, respectively.
First Grade Mrs. Debbie Hamrick. Mrs. Hamrick received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Radford University in Virginia. She began her teaching career at St. Pius X Catholic School in Greensboro, N.C. where she taught Kindergarten for seven years. After staying home to raise two sons, she returned to the classroom at St. Raphael Catholic School as a :irst grade teacher and has been teaching in that position for the past fourteen years. With twenty years of teaching young children, she :inds each day a new and exciting experience. Mrs. Hamrick has been quite involved with the growth of our school not only as a teacher but as a parent. She has served on school building committees, cluster head chair, Catholic schools week chair, school improvement team, as well as a mentor for new teachers. Mrs. Theresa Gasper. Mrs. Gasper is the :irst grade assistant to Mrs. Hamrick in 1A. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from College Misericordia (Dallas, PA) which is now Misericordia University. She also hold a minor in Early Childhood Ed. She has seven years teaching experience as a First Grade lead teacher in a parochial school in upstate NY, before moving to NC. Her teaching experience in NC has been mainly on the campus of Saint Raphael. She started working in the library 14 years ago for two school years. She also have one year experience at the ECC with the four year old program. Her most recent has been an assistant in :irst grade for the past 7 years. Mrs. Jennifer Scully. Mrs. Scully graduated from the University of Hartford, in Hartford, CT, with a degree in Elementary Education in 1992. The following year, she graduated from Boston College with a degree in Moderate Special Needs. Upon graduation, she began working with Wake County Public Schools, where she worked in Special Education, grades K- 5 and a self- contained 4th grade class, for a total of 6 1/2 years. After several years off to stay home with her children, she taught Preschool at Millbrook Baptist Kindergarten. In 2007, she joined the staff of Saint Raphael Catholic School as a 4th grade teacher. She am now beginning my 6th year as a 1st grade teacher at St. Raphael Catholic School. Miss Shelby Lombardo. Ms. Lombardo was born in Buffalo, New York and moved to North Carolina at the age of three. She is currently in school for Medical Laboratory Technology. She worked at the After School Program here at SRCS for a few years and absolutely loves working with the kids! She is a huge sports fan, and especially enjoy going to Carolina Hurricanes games! This is her :irst year as an assistant teacher
Second Grade Mrs. Jo Ann Colopy. Mrs. Colopy is currently teaching second grade at St. Raphael Catholic School. This is her twentieth year in the profession, sixteen of those years at St. Raphael teaching Kindergarten, First Grade, Fourth Grade and, presently, Second Grade. Having graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education, Mrs. Colopy has distinguished herself as the Wal- Mart Teacher of the Year in 1999 and the recipient of the Lewis Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2008. She has a Diocesan Certi:ication as Master Level Catechist and conducted a Catechetical Institute for the diocese from 2009 to 2012. During the 2011-2012 school year, Mrs. Colopy served as the Accreditation Facilitator for St. Raphael during is re- accreditation process. She served as an assessor of teacher performances conducted by the National Board for the Professional Teaching Standards and assessed writing samples for the Diocese Writing Test. Right after her ever growing family, teaching in a Catholic School is the joy of Mrs. Colopy's life. Mrs. Christine Murray. Mrs. Murray begins her :ifth year as a teacher s aid at St. Raphael Catholic School. She has a BA in Psychology and a Master s Degree in Counseling. Miss Cara Watson. Ms. Watson is originally from Charlotte, North Carolina and attended Catholic Schools from Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade. She graduated from Meredith College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology as well as receiving her K- 6th Teaching Certi:ication. She has served on the Young Alumnae Board at Meredith College for the last eight years. This will be Miss Watson's eleventh year teaching Second Grade at Saint Raphael Catholic School. She has the great privilege of helping her students prepare for Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Miss Watson has a deep passion for Second Grade and each year brings a new and rewarding experience. She is happiest when working with her students and watching them succeed. Miss Watson is looking forward to another incredible year. Mrs. Pat Thompson. Mrs. Thompson serves as a second grade teaching assistant. This is her 17th year in 2nd grade here at St. Raphael Catholic School. Prior to moving to Raleigh, she spent 10 years as an assistant at Queen of Apostles Catholic School in Alexandria, Virginia.
Third Grade Mrs. Phyllis Gaukel. Mrs. Gaukel returns to teaching third grade at St. Raphael Catholic School, where she taught for :ive years previously. She was a Youth Minister at Christ the King Parish in Wisconsin working with middle and high school students. She considers it an honor to be a positive, Catholic in:luence on such a wide age range that spans from young children to early adults. As a youngster myself, she attended Catholic schools all of her life, and graduated from Marquette University with a double bachelors in Theology and Social Philosophy. Realizing that Catholic education was her calling, she later did extensive post- baccalaureate work at Edgewood College (also a Catholic institution) to earn numerous teaching certi:ications that enable to teach Elementary Education as well as Middle School Education in the subjects of Math, Science, LA, and SS in both Wisconsin and North Carolina. Ms. Molly Scanlon. Mrs. Scanlon begins her second year of teaching at St. Raphael Catholic School. Before pursing teaching, Miss Scanlon was on a different career path. She earned my undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. Quickly after graduating, she realized my heart was not in my job. After substitute teaching and serving as a teaching assistant in special education, she returned to Ithaca College and received a Masters of Science in Childhood Education. She became actively involved with her passions of education and working with children. Prior to her move to North Carolina, she was employed by Ithaca City School District. In addition, she was an assistant Irish dance teacher in Syracuse, New York. Her other education experiences include: volunteering at Harlem Promise Academy, mentoring refugees for the Karen Burmese Mentoring Project, and serving as an educator at the Sciencenter, a local science museum in Ithaca, New York.
Fourth Grade Elizabeth Rosinski. Miss Rosinski comes to St. Raphael Catholic School with certi:ications in Elementary and Special Education. She graduated from Immaculata University, cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She is a member of Phi Delta Kappa Education honor society as well as Delta Epsilon Sigma and Kappa Gamma Pi. These past three summers she worked closely with the Special Education population and most recently taught :irst through fourth general education classes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Ms. Calle Kucharski. Ms. Kucharski is a graduate of the University of North Carolina- Wilmington. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor s Degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in Psychology. She taught in Wake County Public Schools before joining the St. Raphael Staff.
Fifth Grade Mrs. Elizabeth Caldwell. Mrs. Elizabeth Caldwell has been teaching at St. Raphael s for the past 1 ½ years as the 6 th grade science teacher. Last year Mrs. Caldwell chaired the committee who wrote the new Vision and Mission statements for our school. Also, she led the efforts that brought back the school science fair. This year she will be one of the :ifth grade homeroom teachers focusing on math and science. Mrs. Caldwell earned a Bachelor s of Science degree in Nursing from Northern Michigan University. She spent 23 years in the profession with most of that time spent as a Labor and Delivery Charge Nurse. She is currently beginning the process to earn her teaching license through the Lateral Entry program as determined by the Diocese of Raleigh. Mrs. Lisa Hribar. Lisa Hribar is a graduate of Northern Illinois University and received a Bachelor s Degree and certi:ication to teach special education with a concentration on students with Learning Disabilities and Behavior Disorders. Mrs. Hribar worked in the Chicago area from 1986-1996 as a resource teacher for grades K- 6, a self- contained teacher for grades 1-4, and as a resource teacher in a high school. In 2006, she completed course work at East Carolina University and was certi:ied to teach elementary education. Mrs. Hribar has worked for the Diocese of Raleigh since August of 2006. She taught for two years at Immaculata in Durham as a fourth grade teacher and has been a :ifth grade teacher at SRCS since 2008. While at St. Raphael s, Mrs. Hribar has been involved in several committees including the Students Assistance Team, the Catholic Schools Week Committee, the Mission and Vision Committee, Chairperson of a standard committee for school reaccreditation, and coordinator of the :ifth grade safety patrol.
