Using McAfee VirusScan Professional Edition Version 8.0 In response to numerous customer requests, Pelco has developed and tested a plan for implementing McAfee VirusScan Professional Edition antivirus software. To provide an additional degree of protection against viruses, McAfee can now be installed, configured, and activated on each DX8000 digital video recorder (DVR) in your organization. To ensure correct and effective installation and use of McAfee antivirus software on the DX8000, read and follow the steps presented in each section of this document completely. This manual includes the following topics: Installing McAfee Enterprise Version 7.1 Antivirus Software on a DX8000 Server Configuring McAfee Antivirus Software for Use on the DX8000 Keeping Your Antivirus Software Current Disabling McAfee Auto Scan Performing a Manual Virus Scan IMPORTANT: New viruses are created every day. To remain effective, your McAfee antivirus software must be active and must updated on a regular basis. Pelco is not responsible for the failure of an individual or organization to update antivirus software and virus definition files. Scanning the hard disk system for viruses while the DX8000 is recording may result in lost video data. INSTALLING AND UNINSTALLING MCAFEE VIRUS SCAN PROFESSIONAL EDITION There are a few items of importance that you should understand before installing, using, and uninstalling McAfee VirusScan Professional Edition on the DX8000 server, and also before using the automatic update feature. Installing McAfee VirusScan Professional Edition: The initial installation of McAfee VirusScan Professional Edition is easy. After the installation process finishes, you are prompted to restart the DX8000 to complete the installation process. Using the McAfee automatic update feature: By default, the McAfee automatic update feature is turned off when the software is installed. You must manually turn automatic update on. In this case, the first time that automatic update executes, the McAfee software requires that the DX8000 be restarted. McAfee displays the restart prompt over the DX8000 video screen. The restart prompt does not timeout; you must manually address the restart prompt to remove it. McAfee software displays subsequent automatic update notifications and advises that a restart of the DX8000 is not required. Uninstalling McAfee VirusScan Professional Edition: McAfee VirusScan software is easy to uninstall, but some components are not removed. You must manually remove left-over McAfee files from the registry and hard drive. Some McAfee file names are not easily recognized and you have to perform a tedious search of the registry for the left-over McAfee files. The McAfee icon is very difficult to remove from the notification area of the Windows task bar. McAfee will not reinstall properly after it is uninstalled. The McAfee installation process displays a message that the components for Active Shield are missing and that you must reinstall the software or not boot into safe mode. To install McAfee antivirus software: 1. Exit the DX8000 application if it is running, and return to the Windows operating system. Refer to the Installation Manual or Operations and Programming Manual for instructions on exiting the DX8000. NOTE: You must have Administrator User access to exit to the Windows operating system.
