INTRODUCTION TO THE PRACTICE OF AMERICAN MEDICINE Introduction to the Practice of American Medicine IPAM A two-day workshop designed to prepare candidates to apply for medical residency training in the United States

IPAM OVERVIEW The Introduction to the Practice of American Medicine course is designed to prepare candidates to apply for medical residency training in the United States. Drawing on the expertise of Harvard faculty directly involved in educating medical trainees, this two-day program will provide unique insights into the process of residency application process. Attendees at the live course will receive training in the form of lectures, interactive panel discussions and hands-on workshop sessions focused on specific areas of the application process. For those unable to attend in person, we offer an online, livestreaming option with complete access to all lectures and panel discussions. IPAM FACULTY Kenneth B. Christopher, MD Assistant Program Director, Medicine Residency Program, Brigham and Women s Hospital, Instructor in Medicine, Dr. Christopher is a board certified physician in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Nephrology and is Director of the IPAM program. He is active in patient care and training of students, fellows and physicians. He graduated from the University of California, San Diego and New York Medical College. Dr. Christopher trained in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine at the Brown University program and then Nephrology at the Brigham and Women s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. He currently serves as Assistant Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency and Assistant Director of the Preliminary Residency Program at the Brigham and Women s Hospital. Dr. Christopher has published 32 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and has multiple ongoing collaborative observational and interventional studies with collaborators in the US, Canada, Japan, Austria and England. Martina M. McGrath, MD Instructor in Medicine, Dr. McGrath is Associate Director of the IPAM program and Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She is also an Associate Physician and attending nephrologist at Brigham and Women s Hospital (BWH). Dr. McGrath received her medical degree from University College Cork, Ireland, and completed her internal medicine residency and nephrology training in Ireland. She joined the BWH/MGH Nephrology fellowship program in 2009 and was subsequently recruited to faculty at BWH in 2012. Dr. McGrath s subspecialty interest is in transplant nephrology and she is an investigator in transplant immunology at the Transplantation Research Center, BWH. Her research is focused on targeting T cell costimulatory pathways in allograft rejection and developing novel therapies to promote transplantation tolerance. Ajay K. Singh, MBBS, FRCP (UK), MBA Associate Dean for Global and Continuing Education, Dr. Singh is Associate Dean for Global and Continuing Education, at, member of the renal division in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women s Hospital, Associate Professor of Medicine at HMS and executive director of the Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research. He completed his undergraduate and medical training at University College School of Medicine in England and his clinical and research renal fellowship at Tufts- New England Medical Center. Dr. Singh is also Director of Postgraduate Medical Education at Brigham and Women s Hospital in Boston. He has earned international recognition for his work in medical education, leading several Harvard continuing medical education (CME) courses as well as lecturing both nationally and internationally. Dr. Singh is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London, and received his MBA from Boston University. INTRODUCTION TO THE PRACTICE OF AMERICAN MEDICINE IPAM 3

IPAM REGISTRATION INFORMATION WHO SHOULD REGISTER FOR THE HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL IPAM WORKSHOP? Medical graduates and undergraduates planning to apply for medical or surgical residencies in US-based programs in the coming years. TUITION Registration forms for the IPAM program s on-site workshop and live stream and on-demand sessions are available on the IPAM program website, hms.harvard.edu/ipam. Tuition for the IPAM program is US $450. REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT TERMS REFUND AND CANCELATION POLICY: We are unable to provide refunds should an applicant register then be unable to attend the program. A full refund will be given should the program be canceled due to insufficient enrollment. Notification of cancelation will be provided at least 30 days prior to the program s start.
