INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES The Institute of Social Sciences started its education within the framework of 19th article of Higher Education Law in 2007 2008 academic year with 15 students. The Institute of Social Sciences has been offering nine MA with thesis programmes such as Economics, Business Management, Physical Education and Sports (separate programmes) Basic Islamic Sciences, Philosophy and Religious Sciences, History and Arts of Islam, Archaeology and History Departments. Physical Education and Sports Department is offering joint programmes in cooperation with Amasya University and Ondokuz Mayıs University. History and Arts of Islam Department does not accept students as it does not provide the general requirements which are asked by Higher Education Institution yet. The Institute signed joint graduate programmes in cooperation with the Institute of Social Sciences of Ankara University and İstanbul Technical University in addition to Amasya University. The ınstitute continues to develop by opening new graduate programmes fast in parallel with Hitit University s development. The Institute started to offer master with thesis programmes in Archeology and History Departments and PhD programmes in Economics and Business Management Departments in the fall semester of 2013-2014 academic year. Also, in the same academic year, The Institute started to accept students into Physical Education and Sports Department which is the joint programme in cooperation with Ondokuz Mayıs University. The Institute of Social Sciences of Hitit University will host for these programmes. In addition to this, The Institute signed a protocol with Philosophy and Religious Sciences Department of Kastamonu University which is in the coordinator position in this partnership. In accordance with this agreement, it started to accept students into this department in 2013-2014 academic year. 4
THE AIM OF SOCIAL SCIENCES INSTITUTE OF HITIT UNIVERSITY To provide the students to acquire knowledge by making scientific researches and to evaluate and gain ability to interpret the knowledge, To train lecturers required in Higher Education, to meet the needs of society with producing qualified human capital, To improve the quality of graduate education and the researches and to make a contribution to training qualified researher, To become an institution which makes a contribution to national and international developments and increasingly earns respect in addition to scientific, education, cultural and artistic advances, To meet the needs of both state and private sector with regard to increasing qualified trained staff and to create positive synergy and develop human capital with the aim of enhancing the region. 5
MISSION In line with over all mission of Hitit University, Institute of Social Sciences favoring excellence and competence in current master programmes aims to develop international scientific activities as a research institution, open new programmes in accordance with the needs of country and society in the light of the recent developments in globalizing world, become one of the most preferred educational institutions by conducting studies which serve as a model in its relationships to research, education and society, provide students with the knowledge and ability they will need globally and with modern scientific knowledge to use creatively, and create a society which adopt this approach as a principle. In order to achieve this aim, the Institute has determined to carry on educational services, scientific researches and application activities in an environment not only teaching, but also learning. 6
VISION In line with over all vision of Hitit University, Institute of Social Sciences aims to take the needs of stakeholders into consideration, collaborate with business world, support the attempts of both academic and administrative staff for their own aims, take criticisms seriously, create an environment not only teaching but also learning, and become one of the leading graduate education institutions in our country by conducting graduate programmes, research and scientific activities. Furthermore, it aims at using automation by accelerating the infrastructure development studies to be able to provide the students and academic staff with quality service on time, update the web page being aware of the fact that communication is a basic need, publish papers in its journal with the purpose of promulgating the results of scientific researches making the journal of institute sustainable. By taking the basic values of the university into account, the institute intends to become an institutional structure making strong cooperation between the university and graduates and all the staff adopt the vision of the university. 7
