There is a focus on using IT to solve business problems. Students will understand the role of IT in Business, know the functions that take place and be up-to-date in the latest internet and IT applications. This award is suitable for students who would like to work with computers but also have an interest in their business context. It recognizes the need for people and technology to work in harmony. On completing the Business Information Technology award, graduates will have the ability to combine aspects of management and business with aspects of information technology. Classes For students taking 180 credits, there are approximately 6 class hours per week (normally including 1 weekday evening or 1 weekend afternoon/evening). Students taking 240 credits will start the programme one semester earlier and are required to take one more class per week in the first two semesters of Year 1. Classes will be held at SCOPE Learning Centres in Kowloon Tong or at other SCOPE Learning Centres in TST. Assessment and Award In general, each 15 credit module consists of 36 contact hours and 114 hours of independent study. The taught modules include lectures, tutorials and lab sessions. Assessment for taught modules is by coursework and/or examination. During the final year of studies, students are required to undertake a major project. Programme Administration The programmes are administered by SCOPE, City University of Hong Kong. Teaching on the programmes are conducted by local practitioners and lecturers approved by Staffordshire University. Staffordshire University closely monitors the progress and quality of the programme. Staffordshire University and External Examiners moderate all coursework and examinations conducted by CityU SCOPE. Admission Requirements Entry Point 1 (240 credits) Graduates of Diploma / Higher Certificates in Computing or IT related disciplines with 3 years relevant working experience or those with equivalent qualifications. Entry Point 2 (180 credits) Graduates of Associate Degree / Higher Diploma in Computing or IT related disciplines or those with equivalent qualifications; or Other students with equivalent qualifications will also be considered. All students are expected to meet the required prerequisites in order to be considered for a different award -- Computing Science, Information Systems or Business Information Technology. Students who do not meet the prerequisites may be required to study additional module(s) and an additional fee will be charged accordingly. Current year graduates who have met the above requirements may also apply for admission.
