1 QF Level 5 QR registration number: 14/003222/L5 Validity Period: from 25 Oct 2014 to on-going Professional Diploma in Human Resource Management and Development SE (51) Introduction The Professional Diploma in Human Resource Management and Development is a part-time programme offered by the School of Professional and Continuing Education, University of Hong Kong. The Professional Diploma in Human Resource Management and Development combines theoretical and practical modules to provide students with an overview of the role of the Human Resource practitioner as a strategic business partner, a system expert and a process expert in the organization. The course will be taught by academics as well as by experienced human resource management practitioners and provide students with a comprehensive education in the field of human resource management and development. Field visits to the Labour Tribunal and commercial corporation(s) are part of the programme design with an aim to enhance students understanding of the practice in handling employee relation issues from both the legal and employee engagement perspective. Programme Structure and Duration The programme consists of nine modules and an English communication skills workshop series for students. The Professional Diploma in Human Resource Management and Development is a 18-month part-time programme. Students attend 5-hour classes on Saturday afternoons (2:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m). There will be 42 sessions in total. All lectures are presented in English supplemented with Cantonese as and when appropriate. Teaching materials and assessment are in English. Lectures There will be three lectures per module in this course (27 lectures in total). Lecturers are specially selected to provide the best available expertise in the various areas. Group Tutorials The group tutorials will provide students with an opportunity to meet in small groups, take part in group discussions and to give presentations (max. 25 students per group). Each group will be led by professional who has both practical and theoretical expertise in the human resource field. There will be 1 tutorial per module (9 tutorials in all). English Communication Skills Workshop for HR practitioners There will be six 5-hour workshops on English communication skills for HR practitioners.

It is also designed to enable students to conduct effective interviews and respond effectively in interviews. Topics include: Communication overview Interviewing techniques Informative communication Persuasive communication Effective written communication Academic writing skills Methods of Assessment Assessment will be based on 3 written examinations and continuous assessment in the form of written assignments. Weighting - One 2,000 2,500 words assignment each for Modules 1-9 5% x 9 - A 15-minute individual presentation each for Modules 3 and 8 5% x 2 - One portfolio of work and a 30-minute group presentation for the 15% Communication Skills Workshop - Three examinations (one exam at the end of 3 modules, i.e. at end of Module 3, 6 and 9) for Modules % x 3 Professional Recognition and Articulation On completion of the programme, students holding the Professional Diploma will be eligible to apply for associate or professional membership of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management. Entry Requirements To be eligible for admission to the programme, applicants shall hold: - an Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma awarded by a recognized institution in Hong Kong; OR - a bachelor s degree awarded by a recognized institution.

4 Applicants who do not possess the above academic qualifications but are aged 21 or above and have relevant work experience will be considered on individual merit. Course Fees Students receiving notification of successful enrolment will have to pay the course fee HK$ 28,000 in one payment before the course starts. Please note that all fees paid are NOT refundable unless the course is over-subscribed or cancelled. * This programme has been included in the list of reimbursable courses for the Government Continuing Education Fund. Eligible applicants will be reimbursed 80% of their fees, subject to a maximum sum of $10,000 on successful completion of the course.
