Please cncentrate n initiatives and measurables, the fcus f the tpic team s main charge. There was sme discussin f whether this dcument cnstituted a plan. Perhaps mre f a guiding principle that can be used t cme up with measurable. The template asks fr strategic directin(s) which culd cme frm SCI. Glbal vs. Internatinal: Members discussed the nature f using these terms. Discussin included nting that there is nt academic clarity t their definitins, questining the need t spend time discussing metatpics and hw this relates t the Tpic Team Tlkit. Excellence in students and faculty g hand in hand. Has PSU been strategic in attracting internatinal students? What else is glbal?
Prtland State 20/20 Peple cme t PSU because f ur fcus n sustainability and ur fcus n cities. What are ur current strengths and what areas need a push? Glbal excellence is when students, faculty and stakehlders create smething excellent. It is a netwrk f factrs that leads t excellence including partnerships, a matrix f partnerships. There are themes and aspiratins that cut acrss campus but, at the same time, we need t be mindful that there is a risk f verextending. Sustainability may be brad but nt glbal. Keywrds frm the questins fr GE Tpic Team include glbal ecnmy and expand influence. Why d we care? T remain cmpetitive city, students, regin. Sme discussin abut whether glbal citizenship might be a term that is mre fitting. In additin t individuals, the term culd als apply t PSU as an institutin. Our students may be ready in ways that aren t urban r dn t fall under areas f excellence. Internatinal alums are an area f cncern. Staff cannt be left ut f the discussin. GE Tpic Team will be required t have an inward fcus (the experience f internatinal students) and an utward fcus (telling a stry, engaging). The team discussed hw t mve frward n the SWOT analysis: Begin by brainstrming ideas, and things we d like t knw. These can later be placed int the SWOT framewrk, but getting ideas ut there culd prevent items frm being miscategrized. See accmpanying dcument fr results f brainstrming sessin. Initiatives: Ptential ideas include: Develping a netwrk t achieve a glbal PhD prgram Infusing the OHSU-PSU jint Schl f Public Health Initiative with a cmmunity engagement fcus arund glbal health Creating a glbal citizenship initiative system f badging that wuld allw credit fr utside learning, develping a prtfli, etc There was brad agreement frm team members that suggesting a small number (perhaps 2 r 3) f strng, tangible initiatives wuld be preferable than develping a lnger, mre inclusive (but perhaps watered dwn) list. As the prcess ges frward, it will likely make sense t have sme interactin with ther tpic teams, specifically Student Learning and Academic Success; Equity, Opprtunity and Access; and Innvative Research, Schlarship and Creative Activities. ACTION: a Ggle Dcument will be created t serve as a repsitry fr team members t share their ideas fr ptential initiatives. Members were excited t start brainstrming ideas sner rather than later.
