This is the Blackrock College Mini- Company Business plan and Mission Statement.

BLAST: BEAT Business Plan 2005/2006 This is a summary of the forthcoming agenda that the Blackrock mini company (dark Synergy Productions) hopes to undertake. It is also a summary from each department/member stating what they do in the company, and what they hope to do during the course of the competition. (NOTE: This is not our logo)

Mission Statement for DSP Dark Synergy Productions is a mini music company operated out of Blackrock College by the Transition Year students. Our mission is to bring original music written by Irish youths to the community around us. Our company supports an eclectic mix of different musical styles and genres. Our overall plan is to promote such music and also to encourage interest in how the world of business actually works. Ultimately, we hope to awaken the minds and open the ears of the Irish youth! D.S.P.

C.E.O. -Denis Kilty, Ass. C.E.O. Darragh McGrath We Denis Kilty (C.E.O.) and Darragh McGrath (Ass. C.E.O.) Are in charge of the delegation of jobs instructions and general commands with in our beloved company, Dark Synergy Productions. We will be spearheading the overall operations which our mini company will take part in. It ids important that we carry out our jobs efficiently and rapidly, to ensure the road to a speedy success! Go Team! Marketing Department: James Fagan (ass.) Stephen Robb 1. We shall create a survey on Prices for the products we must sell 2. We will devise a plan for selling C.D. s and look into prices for T-shirts to promote the professionalism of our mini company, and to ensure the prices will entail a profit. 3. Prior to commencing C.D. sales, we will devise an advertisement Campaign. We will also organize selling/promotion teams in groups that compliment each others abilities in communication, and location. 4. We must integrate with the different departments to make our agenda the ultimate success. Gig promotion and advertisement will come in to action here also. 5. we will promote and sell the second C.D. (blast beat vol. II) 6. We might also hand out a second survey, to see if there has been any reaction to the first set of C.D. s and adjust our prices accordingly, 7. Finish up the year long agenda and prepare each department accordingly for the end of year exhibition.

Sales Department Aonghus O Muiri Business Plan My idea for promoting Blast CDs and tickets was to use a human s primal nature to sell them to what is already a predominantly male consumer group. In a style similar to many advertising companies, I thought it would be a good idea to have girls helping in sales with going out into the public. Of course, with using this idea may cause problems to arise, such as complaints of objectification and problems with sexual harassment. To work around this, we shall ensure that security is working in accordance with the sales teams to prevent problems. This idea may be particularly risky, and sounds bad when written on paper, but it has worked for hundreds of companies before, so why not ours? This is the only original idea I could come up with, I m sure the others have already been covered. But if not, here are some various ideas, in bullet point form. CDs should be handed into music and musical instrument shops as that would allow the key market to get a chance to see the product. We could give them to shops on a sale or return basis much like the way it works with schools. When working on sales in school or out on the street, we could use CD players to demonstrate the awesome power of unsigned artists to passers by, and show them songs that appeal to their taste in music. T-shirts stating business positions and sporting Blast logos and the Dark Synergy Productions logo are a must. If not for recognition as well as advertisement. It works on many levels.

Video/Camera Department Sam Hollingsworth Interviewer My name is Sam Hollingsworth and I m part of the Dark Synergy camera crew. My job is interviewing various people concerned with Blast Beat. During meetings, gigs, gatherings, etc. As part of the Camera crew it is important that we record all the meetings and document them so that we can review them at any stage and assess how well the business is progressing, in terms of communication and getting everything done. There will be two separate camera crews. Each will have two cameramen and an interviewer. It is important to have two separate groups as during the latter parts of the competition when things get hectic, having only one team may hinder us in terms of capturing all the key moments of the year. It is important to have everything recorded, but it is just as important, if not more so, to have an interviewer on the scene capturing the key moments through speech. Having just cameras limits the feedback we can receive greatly, but with an interviewer, we can really capture some great footage. My job hasn t fully gone into effect (except for at the recent blast gig.) since there has not been any major events apart from meetings, but I expect to be very busy later on in the year. I hope to get started off as soon as possible so we can get down to business. Simon Cantwell-Camera man My primary job in Blast: Beat is camera man. This entails filming everything that goes on in any Blast: Beat meeting during the course of the year, and also filming any thing interesting connected with the company outside school, such as material for the website, etc. This will help the company to identify its weak points and correct the problems we might face. I use my High-Definition Sony camera to capture the moments, and so far the quality has prevailed, and we hope to have an excellent documentary at the end of all this!

Mark O Reilly- Camera Crew My job as one of the cameramen for Dark Synergy Productions is to make a documentary of all the activities preformed over the entire duration of this business. I work with Alex Masterton (Director) and Chris Murphy (Multimedia Manager), as well as the rest of cameramen, to make a fully edited and well-presented documentary on Dark Synergy. As a cameraman, it is my job to man a camera and film all the meetings and all activities to do with Dark Synergy and to help in the editing of all footage. At the moment I am using a high quality, which was lent to me by PR Manager Mark Nugent. So far I have filmed all meetings and I have some footage of people and activities that occurred outside the meetings. Chris Murphy- Multimedia/content manager I as multimedia and content manager will be in charge of regulating and filtering all the content that our company prepares for the website, Journalistic reports and any written documents that our company brings into use. This is important as the public will not tolerate shabby work, so neither should we. It is up to me to ensure that we all uphold a standard in the written work we produce and make it the best there is! Alex Masterton Director My job in Blast: Beat, I am the director of the blast beat Camera crew, and also the director for the promotion video we will be shooting this year. I am in charge of assigning jobs to the different members of the crew, and so far that has been successful. We are generally recording all the processes of each company and have done that to our fullest at the moment. We will have the documentary prepared fin time for the company presentation in The Helix later on this year.

I.T. Department. I.T. manager- Eoin Manahan As I.T. Manager, I will be in charge of our connection to the public through the internet. I will be working closely with the PR and the Journalists to get articles to post on the website. I will also be working with the Art and Design team to add an artistic flare to the site templates and logos. I will filter out all that goes through the website and make it as fun and as interesting as possible! Assistant I.T. Manager Patrick Carey As the I.T. Assistant, I am hoping to develop a comprehensive, dynamic and easy to read website, to compliment our enterprise as a mini company. I am hoping to help the Art and Design team to produce commendable graphics, logos and site templates for our employers and employees alike I shall go about designing the Website, with the help of the I.T. head man, Eoin Manahan, using various website skeleton templates and Scripts to assist us. On the website we hope to include recordings, images, band profiles, media footage, details on our C.D. and gig information. As for the graphic side to it, we will attempt to co-operate and co-ordinate with the Art and Design to produce quality logos that will enhance the promotion of our mini-company. Finance Department Darragh Soden-Finance Manager I, as finance manager, of Dark Synergy Productions, will organize and look after cash flow and distribution within the company. I will try and make our company the best mini company by doing my job to the fullest of my ability. I will organize the money to be kept in the school safe if possible, or I will open an account to keep the money in, to keep it safe, and I wall also record any profits we make. I will also record the amounts of money added or taken from the safe in an accountancy notebook. I will make sure that only I and possibly the C.E.O. will have direct access to the safe and its contents. I will also be making out a budget plan for the separate departments and allocating the appropriate funds to each group to buy supplies,t-shirts, etc.

PR Department Cormac Hennigan - P.R. to the public My name Is Cormac Hennigan. I have been chosen by Dark Synergy Productions and Blast: Beat to work as the public relations Manager. For the Duration of this company, I have planned to do the following: I will be talking to the various teachers of Various subjects in School about the Blast: Beat program, and its importance.(this way teachers will become more lenient about letting participating students out of class) I will be participating in purchasing t-shirts for the company and as a form of revenue for the company. And helping to deal with companies and organizations such as Reads of Nassau Street. As PR the most important job that I have is to promote the company and to maintain a close relationship with the public. Chris Carlyle P.R. to the public I am working in the P.R. department of Dark Synergy Productions company. My job is to communicate the aims and targets of Dark Synergy to the public. I will be involved in promotion and and informing and making students and teachers alike, aware of the Blast: Beat competition. It is very important that I do my job well as to positively promote our company and ensure the welfare of our company s reputation. I will do my job to the best of my ability. Daniel Mac Manus-P.R. to staff My plan is to aid any person with any problems that they might have involving a P.R s assistance. I have an idea to make a newsletter in order to communicate ideas to the public. I will also have a part in organizing a hall of some kind for the battle of the bands we are to be hosting. If the manager has any problems involving P.R he will also let me know. The manager will give me work to do as well and I will be constantly thinking of new ways to make the team more efficient and better.

Arts and Design Department Naoise McCarthy Art and design My job in the Art and Design Department is to engineer the artistic side of Blast: Beat and our mini company. I first of all have to design a suitable logo for our mini company, Dark Synergy Productions. Then I have to design and make posters, flyers, backdrops and any other artistic accessories that the company may require for its promotional campaigns. Journalism Department. Richard Cleary-Journalist I, as a journalist am here to record and describe the blast beat company through the medium of words. My purpose is to record and document the goings on in Blast: Beat and relay that back to paper. I will also be helping with the wording and structure of the balas beat website, which will be published on the internet. I will be doing meeting reviews, gig reviews, and synopsisi of events. I will, over the coming months, tell a mildly epic tale of the progression of Dark Synergy Productions. It is early days yet, and already the company s succession is looking promising. This is Richard Cleary, Signing out. Cillian Forde-journalist My name is Cillian Ford. My job for Dark Synergy Productions is to work as a journalist. As a journalist my job is to do the following Review the bands chosen for the battle of the bands competition. Review concerts and Blast Gigs. Write about how the company is progressing. As a journalist, an important aspect of my of my job is to ensure that the information that I write is accurate and inviting to outside readers. Correct wording and witty word play in a review or report can be used to play up to our advantage, so it is vital I do this to the best of my capacity. Health and Security Department Shane Kenny and Simon Maishman It is our job to ensure that all goes well in terms of the physical health of our company and the audiences which attend our concerts. Both of us are physically imposing and Shane is a certified St.John s ambulance medic. Hopefully our skills will not be majorly needed, but if so, we will ensure that all goes to plan.

We hope that this business plan has been efficient and detailed and satisfies blast: beat Yours, D.S.P.
