Video can be a hugely effective way to help inform, entertain and engage with your audience especially via your website and social media. By investing in video training you can shoot, produce and market that in-house video content without having to continually rely on external agencies. Octave Digital offer a specialised training service to fully train your team in video production and marketing. The training service is unique to the Northern Ireland market as we don t just teach you how to make the content, we ll show you how to promote it properly too. 3 In-House Video Training: Outline Summary Our in-house video training course is typcially delivered over three days and consists of the following elements: Training Needs Assessment Camera Operation Half Day Session Production Full Day session Editing and Video Marketing Full Day Session Training Needs Assessment To start the training we will meet with you to assess your current skills in video production. As part of this short process we will review: Any video content you have produced together with feedback Individual team experience in producing video content Previous approaches to promoting your video content Existing camera and video editing equipment / future investment Finally, we will also advise you of the types of video content you should produce to engage with your target audience.

4 In-House Video Training: Outline Camera Operation We start off the training session with a comprehensive, practical how-to on the following elements: How to operate a camera in different situations Shutter angle and motion Composition - the Rule of Thirds Choice of location Sound - best practice in recording clean sound Straight recording vs dual audio recording Lighting options and the three point lighting technique

5 In-House Video Training: Outline Final Cut Pro Using Final Cut Pro, your team will learn how to master the following areas: Media management Basic editing techniques including three point editing Benefits Gain professional feedback Applying effects, transitions and retiming clips Basic colour correction Zooming in, repositioning and stabailising a shot Uploading a video to website, Youtube, Vimeo, etc

6 In-House Video Training: Outline Practical on Creative Ideas The team will draw on what they have learned in the previous sessions and will be guided through the treatment and storyboarding of their ideas with the aim of achieving a professional final product. The practical session consists of filming interviews and supporting material (observational footage, cutaways etc) following the storyboards devised in the previous session. The hand-on session allows participants to road test the theory and skills gained with guidance from their video trainer.

7 In-House Video Training: Outline Video Content Editing After the team has learned to shoot the content effectively, the team will edit the footage in Final Cut Pro, focussing on telling the story clearly and effectively, adding titles and music where appropriate, and upload the videos onto the internet. 8 About Us Patrick Maxwell Video Director and Trainer Patrick Maxwell is a highly experienced video Patrick Maxwell is a highly experienced video director, producer and trainer. He delivers all in-house video training for Octave Digital. Patricks holds an Advanced Diploma in Screen at the International Film School Sydney, majoring in film directing. After working as a video editor in London he returned to Belfast to direct, film and edit adverts, music videos and corporate promos. 9 About Us Paul McGarrity Digital Marketing Director Paul McGarrity is a digital marketing consultant with over 14 years experience in the UK and Ireland marketing sector. He is Director of Octave Digital and writes a fortnightly internet marketing column, Online Insight, for The Irish News. Paul helps clients understand, adopt and utilise internet marketing tools and focuses on consultancy advice, campaigns and training. Patrick facilitated a two day course at the Arts Council offices in May 2013 and provided us with an extremely comprehensive overview of the practices and processes involved in film production.
