Functional medicine is an interdisciplinary and interprofessional approach that combines the best of all clinical worlds into a cohesive model that can be applied to the prevention and treatment of a wide range of clinical conditions. The program The online master of science degree program includes clinically-oriented nutrition courses delivered within a context of the functional medicine model of disease causation, assessments and treatments. The program integrates standard clinical nutrition subject material with the systems biology approach of functional medicine. A total of 50 quarter credits: 42 credits delivered in a distance learning (internet-based) format; four of the required credits available as in-person seminars provided at various dates and locations in the United States and abroad; four elective credits available either as distance-learning or in-person courses. Admissions Requirements: Bachelor s degree or first professional degree with an overall 2.5 GPA or higher Graduate Record Examination or Miller Analogies Test; waived with a master s, professional degree or for students currently enrolled in a first professional degree health care program prior college coursework in biology, anatomy and physiology, and biochemistry or organic chemistry two letters of recommendation official transcripts from all colleges or universities previously attended Student Voices: Hear about the program from UWS students on the university blog at www.uws.edu Advantages: Gain expertise in clinical nutrition, which has essential applications in public health, preventive medicine and all aspects of clinical medicine including pediatrics, geriatrics, gastroenterology, physical medicine, neurology, internal medicine, rheumatology, cardiology and family medicine.
