1 Master of Science degree in Nutrition & Dietetics The online Master of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Central Michigan University's Global Campus is designed to meet the needs of new and experienced professionals. Its objectives are to enhance graduates' knowledge-base and experiences in the continually advancing field of nutrition and clinical dietetics and provide graduates with the quantitative and methodological knowledge necessary to better interpret the scientifi c literature, integrate evidence based practices and potentially conduct nutritional research. This program does not lead to becoming a Registered Dietitian (R.D.). Degree content The 31 to 37 credit-hour Master of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics builds on the solid base of information and skills provided by your undergraduate studies and your professional experience. There are three program options available. All three degree programs require 19 hours of core courses. The remaining credits are completed in one of the following three plans: Plan A Thesis Option 19 credits of core courses 6 credits of electives selected with approval of advisor 6 credit thesis Plan B Internship Option 19 credits of core courses 3 credit paper and/or project 3 credits of electives selected with approval of advisor 12 credits of dietetic internship providing clinical, food service administration, and community nutrition experience. Students who are currently Registered Dietitians may apply for credit by examination and receive up to 12 hours of graduate credit for the dietetic internship experience. Plan C Course Work Option 21 hours of core courses 9 hours of electives, selected with approval of advisor 3 credit paper and/or project Admission requirements For regular admission you must have: An undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4-point scale) in the last 60 hours of course work. Three letters of recommendation from former professors or professionals in the field of nutrition and dietetics or other health-related professionals. A two-three page essay describing your goals and qualifications for the program. In addition, the student s intent to complete either Plan A: Thesis Option, Plan B: Internship Option, or the Plan C: Course Work Option and the generalized subject matter of the thesis or project should be included in the essay. Successfully completed the requirements for Dietetic Registration (RD, RDN, LDN) by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and/or fulfillment of the minimum academic requirements of the Didactic Program in Dietetics approved by the AND's Commission on Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Education or successful completion of at least: Two courses in nutrition (one at the advanced level) and one upper division course in each of the following: Biochemistry Microbiology Anatomy/Physiology Organic Chemistry Up to a maximum of 15 credit hours can be applied to the MS in Nutrition and Dietetics program through Credit by Examination and/or transfer of course credits from another accredited institution pending approval of coursework. Online Delivery The MS degree in Nutrition and Dietetics coursework is delivered entirely online. This approach employs interactive learning classes that include synchronous class sessions, discussion boards, s, and content enriched with Web technology. Textbooks are still required and can be ordered on the Web. Your books will be shipped to your home or office, usually within 24 hours after your order is received.

CMU uses an online registration process. Advising Advisement is key to your success in the program. You will be assigned to the program director for academic advising and the program assistant coordinator for the development of a program plan that you need to follow to complete your degree. In addition, the program assistant coordinator will serve as your liaison to campus and will be available to assist you throughout the completion of your program. You can reach your academic advisor or the program assistant coordinator by and by phone. Textbook purchase - global.cmich.edu/student/mbs-direct.aspx You don t have to drive around town or stand in long lines at a bookstore to get your textbooks. You can order them at your convenience on the Web. Your books are shipped to your home or office, usually within 24 hours after your order is received. 3 Master of Science degree in Nutrition & Dietetics Core Courses Core Courses (19 hours) are required for all program options FNS 661 FNS 662 FNS 670 FNS 672 FNS 673 FNS 677 FNS 678 (3) Macronutrients Advanced study of nutrition, metabolism, and function of proteins, carbohydrates and lipids as related to human health and disease. (3) Micronutrients Advanced study of nutrition, metabolism and function of vitamins and minerals as related to human health and disease. (1) Seminar: Nutrition* Student review and presentation of specific topics of current research in nutrition. (3) Advanced Clinical Nutrition Advanced concepts of diet therapy and care for a variety of clinical disorders with nutritional implications. Includes coverage of enteral and parental nutrition. (3) Advanced Nutritional Assessment Presents techniques for nutritional assessment of individuals and groups; evaluation of dietary intake, anthropometry, nutritional analysis software, and biochemical and clinical indices. (3) Nutritional Epidemiology Presents key concepts of nutritional epidemiology. Enables students to evaluate clinical research investigating the role of nutrition in disease causation and health promotion. (3) Research Methods in Nutrition Students will review research methods, read and analyze related literature and develop a proposal for practice-oriented nutrition research. *Variable content based on instructor s area of interest.

Note: FNS 670 and FNS 790 are variable credit courses. Students in this program MUST enroll in FNS 670 three times (1 hour each) under different subject themes. For FNS 790, students are required to take 3 credit hours. Plus e-portfolio, oral examination over course work and 3 additional hours of electives selected with the approval of the student s academic advisor. Note: FNS 670 and FNS 790 are variable credit courses. Students in this program are required to take 1 credit hour of FNS 670 and 3 credit hours of FNS 790.

6 Tuition, fees & application process To apply To get started in your graduate studies at CMU, just apply online at apply.cmich.edu. A $50 application fee in U.S. funds (check, money order, American Express, Discover, MasterCard or Visa) is required. You will need to send your 2-3 page essay and your 3 letters of recommendation to: Central Michigan University Global Campus 802 Industrial Drive Mount Pleasant, MI You will also need to have one official transcript from all colleges or universities you have attended sent to CMU. To make it easier, we have provided a transcript request form for you to duplicate and use as necessary. Application checklist To make sure your application is complete, look at the following checklist before mailing it in. 1. Access an application at apply.cmich.edu. The application may be completed online or downloaded. 2. Include $50 application fee (U.S. funds). 3. Send in your 2-3 page essay. In the essay include: a.
