Getting Started CPS OWNED COMPUTER - Test your access from the CPS Network first: Users are expected to test the Remote Access install procedures on their CPS-owned computer during normal business hours from within the CPS network. You will need to connect your computer to the CPS network using a network cable or connect to the wireless network. If an issue arises, please call the IT Service Desk at 77-55-95, option 9. Minimum hardware and software requirements are listed on the Remote Access website (http://vpn.cps.k.il.us). You must have administrative rights on your computer to install the client or have at least the most up to date Java client version. Java is REQUIRED for both Safari and Firefox browsers. Please close all the open applications before proceeding with CPS Remote Access Client Installation. Java is a third-party program by Oracle and is supported by the Remote Access System at CPS. This section is required if you are using either Safari or Firefox. Java Verification, Installation, and Configuration Checking Mac OS version Step : To check Mac OS version, click the Apple icon <upper left>! Click About This Mac! Confirm version 0.x.x Reference http://vpn.cps.k.il.us/ra_requirements.shtml to check supported Mac OS versions. If this is a supported MAC OS version, proceed to Step. P age
Java Installation and Configuration If you are running Lion 0.7.x and above, there is a possibility that the Java-provided applet plug-in is not installed by default. Previously, Java was provided by Apple. Now Java is provided by Oracle. Step : To verify if Java client is installed, click on the magnifying glass icon <upper right>! do a search by typing System Preferences inside the Spotlight search field! Under Show All in Finder, click System Preferences. Under System Preferences, locate and double click on the Java icon. If you don t see a Java icon, you ll need to install the Java client, proceed to Step. If Java is already installed, skip Step. Step : Go to the Java for Mac section on the www.java.com site and click the Download Java link to install the Java client. Oracle documents the Java installation process in detail on their Java download page. 4 P age
Step 4: Once the Java client has been installed, click on Go! click Utilities in Finder! Double click the Java preferences icon! In the General tab, place a check in the box labeled Enable applet plug-in and Web Start Applications. Step 5: In the Java Control Panel, click on the Advanced tab. Make sure to uncheck Use SSL.0 compatible ClientHello format. All other settings under Advanced Security Settings leave checked. 5 P age
Step 6: Also on this tab, under Default Java for browsers section, make sure to check Mozilla family. You ll only need to do this if you will be using Firefox to connect to VPN. Connecting to VPN Safari Browser Step : Open up a Safari browser and go to https://connect.cps.edu. If prompted to run this application, check the box Do not show this again for apps from this publisher and location. Then click Run. 6 P age
Step : If prompted to Trust this site, click Trust. \ NOTE: With the release of Safari 6. and higher (installed by default in OSX 0.8.5+), Apple introduced a sandboxing feature was incorporated on the Safari browser that can prevent Java from executing properly. If you receive a Java error, this could be the result of the sandboxing feature stopping the Java applet from executing. If this is the case, then proceed to Step otherwise skip to Step 6. Step : To un-sandbox, first click Safari on the top left, then click Preferences. 7 P age
Step 4: Click Security, then select Java from the list on the left hand-side. Click on portal.connect.cps.edu then select Run in Unsafe Mode. If another window pops up click Trust. 4 Step 5: Refresh your browser window, you may have to start at Step. Step 6: Wait for the scan to finish. When it does you should be presented with a login screen, enter your user credentials and click Sign In! Click Allow! Click Trust Server! Under the SSL Network Extender window, click Yes. Step 7: Depending on your settings you may again be prompted to allow access to the following website. Check the box Do not show this again for this app and website. Then click Allow. 8 P age
Step 8: Depending on your settings you may be prompted to trust this server, click Trust Server. Step 9: If you are presented with a Fingerprint screen, click Yes. Step 0: Lastly, inside the native application window make sure that the status says connected. Once you re connected, verify that you have a 7.7.x.x for an office IP address. Firefox Browser 9 P age
Step : Open up the Firefox browser. If you need to install Firefox, go to www.mozilla.com to download a free copy. Step : Once installed, open up Firefox from the icon located on the desktop. Step : Go to website https://connect.cps.edu and if prompted, click Do not show this again for apps from this publisher and location above, then click Run. Step 4: If prompted, check the box next to Do not show this again for this app. Then click Allow. Step 5: Once the scan completes, sign in with your CPS username and password. Step 6: Depending on your settings, the SSL Network Extender window may automatically start. The SSL Network Extender window is the smaller window that pops up as shown in the picture below. You may again be prompted to allow the application to run. If so, check the box next to Do not show this again for this app. Finally click Allow. If it doesn t automatically pop up, you can do so manually by clicking the connect button on the main VPN screen. Not all applications through the VPN portal require SSL Network Extender. If it is not required, you have successfully connected to VPN otherwise proceed to the next step. 0 P age
Step 7: Wait until the status screen says Connected. At this point you have successfully connected to the VPN. Shows you ve successfully connected P age
