Both technical and commercial expertise are crucial when working with GIS and IT. With COWI as your partner, your organisation benefits from a supplier of both independent consultancy and integrated IT solutions that support efficient and effective digitisation from business goals to development, operations and support. We call that 360 consultancy. Our services encompass: SOFTWARE PRODUCTS AND GEODATA MANAGEMENT COWI offers a wide range of GIS products for efficient collection and analysis of data in public and private sectors. Our services cover the entire process from GIS strategy, implementation and data management to training/courses and subsequent support. IT MANAGEMENT CONSULTANCY We cover the whole value chain in IT, management and applicable legislation: tender consultancy, business analysis, requirement analysis, specifications and tender processes. We also provide consultancy on business case analyses and benefits realisation, programme and project management (MSP and PRINCE2) as well as enterprise, solution and system architecture. DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF GIS AND IT SOLUTIONS We develop customised solutions based on state-of-the-art technologies. IT SUPPORT AND OPERATIONS We offer support and operation of IT solutions, also encompassing specific GIS solutions. We apply the recognised best-practice processes in the ITIL framework to ensure flexible and professional cooperation with our customers. This brochure presents some of the projects we have carried out within the above-mentioned service areas.

BENEFITS REALISATION THROUGH INTEGRATED GIS AND IT SOLUTIONS 3 SOFTWARE PRODUCTS AND GEODATA MANAGEMENT GOOGLE MAPS FOR WORK As an authorised Google partner, COWI offers a wide range of GIS and IT services for Google Maps for Work, which is Google s professional map solution for public and private customers including third-party software companies. COWI assists in needs analysis, purchase of licenses, and configuration and customisation of Google Maps for Work to fit our customers specific needs. MOBILE SOLUTION FOR REGISTRATION OF LIGHTING MASTS IN THE CITY OF AARHUS The City of Aarhus aims to modernise operation and maintenance of its road lighting. To this end, COWI established an efficient registration system for collecting accurate GPS positions and master data pertaining to some 54,000 lighting masts in the municipality. The solution is based on the GIS4Mobile platform, which, e.g., supports on-/offline synchronisation with mobile units and integration with the City s GIS systems. WINTER SERVICES IN THE CITY OF COPENHAGEN We regularly carry out GIS registration of snow removal areas and routes, including bicycle paths and roadways, in the City of Copenhagen. The purpose is to reduce the costs of snow clearing and de-icing while maintaining a high level of service. BUILDING GEOCODING IN SOLRØD COWI carried out digital geocoding of the buildings owned by the Municipality of Solrød to optimise the municipality s registration and management of building data. Geocoding buildings is a way to localise information from the Danish Building and Housing Register (BBR) on digital maps. BBR information is presented on geographical maps, providing a clearer and more structured overview of building data.

IT MANAGEMENT CONSULTANCY GEODATA STRATEGY FOR THE MINISTRY OF THE ENVIRONMENT COWI carried out a technical review of the Ministry s strategy for environmental geodata, and clarified a number of technical aspects related to the implementation of the strategy. Furthermore, COWI prepared a roadmap for a possible future solutions architecture for environmental geodata. One of the strategy s aims is to ensure that geodata administration is compatible with the INSPIRE directive. COMMON IT SYSTEM FOR DANISH MUSEUMS In 2015, the Danish Agency for Culture plans to develop a new system for registering collections of art and heritage objects in state museums and officially recognised museums in Denmark. The system builds on a common conceptual model and a data model featuring applications and API. COWI provided IT and tender consultancy throughout the analysis and procurement phases, applying the Danish cross-governmental IT project model and the Danish State s business case model. 360 ANALYSIS OF BUSINESS PROCESSES AND IT SYSTEMS In 2012, the Danish Central Stockholding Entity (FDO) was preparing to meet higher requirements for the monthly reports of oil companies to the Danish government. COWI carried out a 360 analysis of FDO s business processes and IT systems. COWI prepared the initial business case and participated in the project formulation, stakeholder involvement, preparation of requirements specification and tender documents, as well as tendering and contract negotiations. REVIEW OF KEY IT SOLUTION The CAP/IMK system is one of the Danish AgriFish Agency s key IT systems, used for managing EU agricultural subsidies. The system makes high demands on performance and reliability. COWI reviewed the IT solution and made recommendations for how to optimise the system s performance and reliability, the procedures involved and usability.

BENEFITS REALISATION THROUGH INTEGRATED GIS AND IT SOLUTIONS 5 DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF GIS AND IT SOLUTIONS AGROGIS MAPS FARMERS FIELDS To optimise and improve farmers and agricultural consultants registration and management of their fields, COWI developed the digital GIS system AgroGIS. The system includes functionalities for mapping field conditions, registering soil samples, optimising the use of lime etc. while supporting the process of applying for EU agricultural subsidies. MANAGEMENT OF EU AGRICULTURAL SUBSIDIES COWI develops and maintains the Danish AgriFish Agency s advanced GIS solution IMK2, which the Agency uses to handle farmers applications for EU agricultural subsidies, and to subsequently administrate the subsidies and verify the subsidy basis. With some 45,000 users and highly complex GIS calculations based on some 200 map layers, the system makes extremely high demands on system performance and reliability. AUTOMATIC MONITORING SYSTEM FOR THE DANISH NATURE AGENCY COWI developed the Danish Nature Agency s future IT platform for collection of data from environmental sensors. The system continuously gathers data from sensors that measure, e.g., water level, temperature, acidity and salinity in lakes and watercourses. Within the next couple of years, the system is expected to handle in excess of 10,000 sensors. DANISH REGISTER OF UNDERGROUND CABLE OWNERS (LER) COWI heads operation, maintenance and further development of the LER system for the Ministry of Housing, Urban and Rural Affairs. LER contains information on the geographical interest areas of some 5,000 utility owners. The system provides contractors and others carrying out excavations with information on owners of utility lines in a specific area. The objective is to reduce the risk of damage to utility lines and increase supply reliability.

IT SUPPORT AND OPERATIONS MAPPING AND MANAGEMENT OF POLLUTED SOIL For the Capital Region of Denmark, the North Denmark Region, the Central Denmark Region and the Region of Southern Denmark, COWI developed JAR the national register of soil pollution. The register enables the regions to effectively manage sites with polluted soil. The web-based JAR system combines all data necessary to manage areas according to the Soil Pollution Act including GIS, pollution and administrative data. JAR contains all the data needed to facilitate decision-making and case processing by the regions. PERFORMANCE MONITORING SYSTEM FOR CATHODIC PROTECTION COWI developed a performance monitoring system for the Road Directorate s bridges that continually and automatically collects performance data from sensors mounted on the bridges. The system and the data loggers communicate via the 3G/4G mobile network. In practice, the system sends out alarms via email and text messages if the data exceeds fixed threshold limits, or if the system experiences technical problems. SERVER INFRASTRUCTURE FOR PROTECTED NATURE The Danish Nature Agency is responsible for updating section-three registrations of protected nature in Denmark. For its work, the agency uses a mobile GIS application, which is implemented on ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Mobile. COWI hosts parts of the underlying server infrastructure in our private cloud and has assisted the agency in installing ArcGIS Server and establishing the replication. COWI also provides ongoing consultancy on solution operation. COWI CAN HELP YOU WITH HOSTING AND OPERATION COWI has established an operations and hosting centre, which hosts and offers operational support for a number of GIS applications. The centre also operates a number of web and map services. In addition to handling the actual operation of the solutions, we also offer support via a professional ServiceNow Incident Management system. Our customers include, e.g., FlexDanmark, the Danish regions, the Road Directorate and Rail Net Denmark.
