RE isn t just learning about different religions! It gives you the opportunity to Think about the big questions in life. Think about what different religions believe, say & do. Think about your own opinions & feelings it s not just about life here in West Mon, it s about thinking about the world & our place in it. RE helps you to improve all of your key skills, but especially Communication there s lots of discussion; we want to hear about what you know & what you think. Working with other people you get to do things as part of big & small groups. ICT you have many opportunities to use ICT to present work & to research information. Improving your own learning & performance there is lots of RE project work, where we look at how you ve done & how you can improve next time so, you re also improving your skills, that will help you for the rest of your life. Year 7 & 8 - Use our RE web pages to remind you of class work, to catch up if you miss a lesson or to remind you of homework. In Year 7 at West Mon you will have RE lessons as part of Explore. Explore is a new & exciting way of studying RE, History, Geography, PSHE & English altogether, with one teacher. So, in RE in Year 7 Explore, you will be learning about: What your family What you What God says you Who are leaders? All about me Who am I? In Year 8 at West Mon some pupils will have RE lessons as part of Explore & other pupils will have RE lessons on their timetable. However, everybody in Year 8 will be studying the same topics in RE. In Year 9 at West Mon pupils will have RE lessons on their timetables. In Key Stage 4 at West Mon Most pupils complete the second part of the RE GCSE short course giving them a full GCSE qualification in Studies often a year early! In 2012 West Mon pupils achieved 100% A*-C grades in full course Studies GCSE we re very proud of them all! We study the WJEC GCSE syllabus and pupils study the following topics in part 1 of the GCSE: Relationships Is it fair?
