More about ESMT More about ESMT ESMT offers a full-time MBA, an executive MBA, and a master s in management program as well as customized programs for companies, and consulting services in competitive and regulatory cases. ESMT international faculty members meet the highest academic standards. The ESMT research output has a significant impact at both academic and applied levels, placing special emphasis on the management of technology, corporate responsibility, leadership, public policy, and financial economics. Degree Programs Executive Partnerships and cooperations Full-time MBA Open Enrollment Programs E.CA Economics Executive MBA Master s in Management Executive Transition Program USW Netzwerk Co-operations with universities Customized programs al Consulting Project-related cooperation partners Degree Programs Full-time MBA The ESMT full-time MBA (Master of Business Administration) is a one-year MBA program taught entirely in English. It is Germany s most international MBA, with an average of 90% of students and 80% of program faculty from outside Germany. The program begins in January of each year and focuses on management and leadership skills. It consists of two main phases: Mastering Management and Taking the Lead. Class sizes are less than 65, with a strong emphasis on soft-skills development and coaching at an individual level throughout the program. The program opens with a 6-week module in which MBA participants are immersed in the general principles of responsible leadership, business ethics and the role of business in society. This is followed by a series of courses commonly known as The Manager s Toolbox, which expose participants to the theories underlying the various functional areas of business administration. Here, students develop functional expertise and core managerial skills. 5

More about ESMT During the second phase, participants build on their understanding of management fundamentals by learning to integrate different functional areas in a strategic way. Courses such as Business Strategy, Corporate Strategy and Entrepreneurship allow participants to put their learning into practice. The objective now is to develop an ability to make a difference through innovation, entrepreneurship, governance and leadership. A separate 70- session Leadership Competence Development program has been added to the curriculum in 2011. In addition, MBA participants can choose from two elective tracks, Management of Innovation and Technology (MIT), and Global Sustainable Business (GSB), each of which includes a module in China, the US or further afield. The ESMT MBA has a strong practical component. Following the elective courses, participants use their strategic learning in a team-based seven-week applied fieldwork, usually with one of ESMT s corporate partners or with an entrepreneurial venture. Popular sectors for projects are energy (particularly renewables), banking and insurance and high-tech entrepreneurship. Students use their team s experience to write a master s thesis on a theoretical topic based on the fieldwork. The program finishes with a module on creating a business plan and culminates with an innovation competition for students, the winners of which represent ESMT internationally. The MBA program is accredited by AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), AMBA (Association of MBAs), as well as by the German accreditation agency FIBAA and the Berlin Senate. Executive MBA The Executive MBA, held in English starts in September of each year. The part-time program lasts 18 months, and graduates are awarded the degree Master of Business Administration. The program focuses on International Management and Technology and Innovation. The Executive MBA is aimed at committed and experienced professionals, who have a first degree and who would like to continue working while studying for the MBA degree. It is especially designed for executives who are planning to take on an international management position in the future. The Executive MBA is made up of on-site modules with classroom sessions, e-learning and an international field trip. Executive MBA participants profit from the same possibilities as the students of the full-time MBA. In addition they can immediately convert what they have learned into practice. In this way, not only do the Executive MBA participants profit from the program but also the companies for which they work. Master s in Management The Master s in Management (MIM) program starts in September each year. The program targets young graduates with strong quantitative skills who want to develop their knowledge of business and the management of technology. In addition to 11 months of campus-based learning in Berlin, the 22-month program includes three applied terms with organizations: a first-year internship of up to six months in Germany or abroad, a two-month team-based field project, and a four-month master s thesis internship with supporting companies or a research 6

More about ESMT project at ESMT. During the third semester, students specialize in supply chain management, innovation and technology, or marketing. ESMT designed the program together with companies to target analytically-minded bachelor s graduates who want to complement their first degree with advanced interdisciplinary study of business skills. Learning German is compulsory for international students, while German students are required to learn an additional foreign language. All participants must spend at least four months of the program abroad. Executive Open Enrollment Programs ESMT s Open Enrollment Programs offer high-quality executive education in a short time frame. The goal is learning for leading. Participants are able to translate what they have learned into action as soon as they get back to their companies. ESMT s faculty and renowned professors from around the globe lead these courses. Further open programs include those provided by the USW Netzwerk. Executive Transition Program The Executive Transition Program prepares managers in functional positions for the transition to general management positions with greater responsibility. In three two-week modules in Cologne, Brussels, and Berlin participants are given the tool kit and the visions necessary to think and act enterprisingly and to expand their leadership skills. USW Netzwerk The seminars held in German at ESMT Campus Schloss Gracht offer executive education for different levels of management, spanning from seminars for younger managers with functional responsibility to managers with many years of experience. USW Netzwerk provides seminars on developing inter-functional competence, reflecting and developing personal executive skills, taking general management responsibility, as well as on entering the board of directors. Customized programs ESMT designs and delivers tailor-made programs to companies. Program modules are prepared in advance together with company representatives. Lecturers are specialized on various industries: Technology Based Industries; Telecommunications, Transport and Utilities; Financial Services; Information and Communications Technologies as well as Consumer Goods and Retail. 7

More about ESMT For each of these practice groups there are experts available who combine academic knowledge with capabilities to teach and consult. The instructors, which include professors and practitioners, use their expertise to prepare and design individual programs that fit the characteristics and challenges of their respective industries. ESMT follows a 6-step method to conceive a company-specific program: Start-up Discussions Integration Process Analysis (IPA) Concept refinement Program preparation Program execution Follow-up Going beyond ordinary Executive programs, ESMT not only develop new teaching concepts for its customers, but also observe the implementation and the impact of the programs in the company and then measures the need of continuing education in the company. In addition to the design of customized program, ESMT s portfolio also includes the execution of case and industry studies, conferences, team coaching and customer-specific projects. 8
