3 A DOCTORATE IS A KIND OF INTELLECTUAL NOBILITY Kozminski University holds state Ph.D. granting rights since 1998, and it was the first non-public university in Poland to receive such entitlement. Since 2003 we also bear habilitation granting rights (the highest recognition of academic merit), as the only non-public educational institution in the country. Since 1998 our university holds an EQUIS accreditation (granted by the European Foundation for Management Development after a rigorous evaluation process and only to the best management schools in the world). We also have an AMBA accreditation (for executive education), as well as a CEEMAN accreditation. Currently we are undergoing the AACSB accreditation process. In 2009 Kozminski University Master Program in Management was placed 36 th in the world within the Financial Times Global Masters in Management ranking, and the university ranked 42 nd in the FT European Business Schools Ranking. The leagues of their own, subranking of the FT Global Masters in Management ranking lists Kozminski University as the 4 th best institution in the world in the field of entrepreneurship, 8 th best in the world in management, 8 th in marketing and 9 th in economics. This accreditation is awarded to the best business schools by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), an organization that thoroughly and rigorously evaluates the quality of a university s services and facilities. Of the more than 11,000 business schools worldwide, only 122 hold this prestigious accreditation. Kozminski University is the first university in Central and Eastern Europe to hold this distinction and the only university in the region to meet the standards set by the European Quality Improvement System. For the last 5 years, as the only private university in Poland, we have been also entitled to grant habilitation degrees in management, allowing us also to offer full-fledged Ph.D. studies. We also hold Ph.D. granting rights in economics. In 2008 Kozminski University has held rights to grant Ph.D. degrees in economy.
