Teaching and Research Activities. I enjoy working as an occupational safety and health professional because I have the opportunity to improve people s health, the work environment, work processes, management and business profitability while preventing people from becoming ill, injured or dying due to work related causes. I appreciate being able to share occupational safety and health knowledge with other people through teaching, research and writing activities. I am author of over 100 journal articles, textbook chapters, conference papers and conference presentations. I have written the distance education material for 18 units of occupational safety and health study for two universities. At Edith Cowan University, as well as being the program coordinator for the occupational safety and health courses, at Joondalup Campus I taught 7 different units of study, in Malaysia 8 different units, Indonesia 6 different units and in the Philippines 4 different units of study. I have provided distance education at Edith Cowan University by coordinating, teaching and marking 29 different units of study. At Curtin University I have taught 22 different units of study at undergraduate and post graduate level. One of my achievements at Curtin University was to bring the occupational safety and health teaching materials up to date as most of the study information was 10 or more years old. I accepted an offer of an ongoing employment position at Curtin University to set up on campus teaching for the units of study in the Bachelor of Science (Health, Safety & Environment) as all occupational safety and health courses were only available for study by distance education. I organised the Jim Torlach Scholarship (presented by MARCSTA). This scholarship pays the educational costs of one new student each year for the Bachelor of Science (Health, Safety & Environment) who plans to work as a safety professional in the mining industry. It pays the fees for the winner s 3 years of study in this degree. I organised for the Russell Leith Memorial Award to be presented annually (by the Industrial Foundation for Accident Prevention) to the student who demonstrates the highest standard of professional practice in occupational safety and health in a workplace. All students do practical work placements as part of their education. I obtained annual prizes that are awarded (by the SIWA) for the graduating student with the highest course average mark in the Bachelor of Science (Health, Safety & Environment), in the Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety Management, in the Postgraduate Diploma of Occupational Health & Safety and for the best occupational health & safety research project completed in the Master of Occupational Health & Safety. My research and teaching activities are centred on Occupational Safety and Health Management, Ergonomics, Communicable Disease Control, Health Promotion, Safety Inspections, Audits and Risk Management, Accident Prevention and on developing Safety Management Plans, Occupational Safety and Health Policies, Procedures and Programs. As well as teaching and conducting research at Australian Universities I have worked at the Delft University of Technology, Delft, Netherlands; the Central Institute for Labour Protection, Polish National Research Institute, Warsaw, Poland; Vienna University, Vienna, Austria; Montanuniversitat (Mining & Mineral Processing University) in Leoben, Austria; Safety Research Institute of the Czech Ministry for Labour and Employment, Prague, Czech Republic (2004) and at the University of Miskolc in Hungary (2011) while on study and other leave from Edith Cowan University and from Curtin University. I have supervised to completion 8 PhD thesis, 6 Master by Research thesis and 94 Masters Research Projects = 108 research studies.
