Maury County Public Schools Central Office Information DIRECTOR OF MAURY COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS Maury County Public Schools (MCPS) is a K-12 school district in Southern Middle Tennessee operating 21 schools and one alternative school. Hickman has led the district as Director of Schools. He is responsible for all district operations and staff as well as for outlining system-wide goals and objectives. He ensures all State Department of Education and federal laws are followed and oversees the finances of the school district. Director Hickman leads the Central Office staff and supports the building administrators at school campuses in the day-to-day operations of the district. He served as principal of Central High School (CHS) for seven years and before that, was assistant principal at CHS. He held many teaching and coaching positions throughout the district prior to his tenure at CHS. Mr. Hickman taught science and physical education as well as coached boys and girls basketball at Hampshire Unit School, Mt. Pleasant High School, Whitthorne Middle School, and his alma mater, Central High School. Mr. Hickman holds degrees from Trevecca University where he completed his masters in education and from David Lipscomb University where he earned his bachelor of science in health, physical education and recreation. He also graduated from Columbia State Community College with an associates degree and attended public schools in Maury County. The Director is a board member of the Maury County Chamber, the Maury County Health Department, the Tennessee Department of Safety Task Force, and AdvancED. He is a member of the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents, Columbia Breakfast Rotary, and the Tennessee School Resource Officer Association where he is an educational advisor. Mr. Hickman was named South Central Tennessee Superintendent of the Year in 2008.

INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SCHOOLS ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS Scott Gaines Stan Breeden Scott Gaines has served as Assistant Director of Schools since 2010 where he is responsible for program implementation and management, as well as strategic planning, budgeting, and school improvement. Scott oversees Central Office instructional personnel and assists the Director in activities related to academic achievement and professional development. Mr. Gaines was the Elementary Supervisor for curriculum and instruction for six years prior to his current post. Before that, he served as principal, assistant principal and teacher throughout the district. He earned his masters of science in educational administration and supervision from Tennessee State University and his bachelor of science degree from Middle Tennessee University. Next, he earned his Educational Specialist degree from Nova Southeast University. Mr. Gaines attended Maury County Public Schools and Columbia State Community College where he received an associates degree. Mr. Gaines is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the Tennessee National Guard, where he has served for over 25 years. He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2007 for a year of active duty. In 2011, LTC Gaines was assigned command of the 301 st Troop of the Tennessee Army National Guard. Stan Breeden responsibilities as Assistant Director of Operations include oversight of operational functions of the school district such as technology, nutrition, transportation, construction, school health and security. He assists the Director in the daily operations of the district and provides a variety of administrative support. His experience includes service as the executive pastor and chief operating officer for First Baptist Church of Maryville, Tennessee. Prior to that, he was the lead pastor of operations for First Baptist Church of Columbia for 11 years. Before his work at the churches, Mr. Breeden was the assistant vice-president for Life Insurance Policy Administration at Farm Bureau of Tennessee here in Columbia for 15 years. His education includes a masterʼs degree in Christian Leadership Studies from Liberty Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia. He is a Certified Church Administrator, designated by the Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary. Mr. Breeden earned his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

SUPERVISOR OF INSTRUCTION - SECONDARY EDUCATION SUPERVISOR OF CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION Beverly Miller Beverly is responsible for high school curriculum, principal evaluation, extended teacher contracts and credit recovery. She also serves as grades 3-12 test coordinator. Susan Chapman Develops programs focused on exploration of high growth career tech courses that lead to 2- and 4-year college and industry certifications. She builds dual enrollment relationships for college credit while students are still in high school. Susan leads school counselors in developing career plans for students. SUPERVISOR OF INSTRUCTION - MIDDLE SCHOOLS Dr. Jan Hanvy Responsible for instructional planning, evaluation of instructional programs, supervision of personnel, professional development planning and student evaluation programs. Jan also served as the Coordinator of Alternative Programs and as a teacher throughout the district. SUPERVISOR OF INSTRUCTION - PRE-K & ELEMENTARY Dr. Debbie Wiles Responsible for pre-kindergarten through fourth grade curriculum and instruction, supervision of personnel, and program evaluation. She also directs the State Voluntary Pre-K Program as well as the Title III English Learner Program K-12 in the county. Debbie has served MCPS as a teacher in all grades K-4, a literacy coach, and a school improvement and accountability facilitator. SUPERVISOR OF FEDERAL PROJECTS Brenda Hammond Brenda along with Federal Projects Coordinator Kelly Myers oversees all Title I services to Title I schools. Her department works with school improvement planning, budgets and technical assistance to these schools as well as assisting with the management of the School Improvement Grant at Mt. Pleasant High. Brenda works with Title II Professional Development at the district and school level, including work with K-4 instructional coaches. She also supervises operations of the Teacher Center. SUPERVISOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION Lisa Ventura Oversees all special education services to ensure individual education plans are well developed and implemented. Lisa serves as a mediator for parents and school personnel, and is responsible for the coordination of special education personnel including licensed teachers and classified staff. SUPERVISOR OF ATTENDANCE & DISCIPLINE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FINANCE Mary Carter Responsible for attendance, student handbook, home school and home bound, out-of-zone, social services and the Alternative School. She is the Disciplinary Hearing Authority Chairman and serves on the Truancy Review Board. Mary is the Complaint Manager and Title VI as well as the Title IX and Section 504 contact. Patty Vargo Coordinates collection, safekeeping, and distribution of funds and assists with longrange financial planning. She establishes the accounting program and prepares requirements for bid work, as well as manages the districtʼs real estate, insurance and building programs. Patty prepares budget reports and submits to local and state agencies and arranges for internal auditing of school accounts. HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER MAINTENANCE MANAGER Amanda Alexander Supervises benefits, insurance, licensed personnel and classified personnel, and is also the Complaint Manager for licensed employees. Her department maintains all employee files, processes all applications, maintains the Board of Education policy manual, and processes recommendations for employment. Amanda also is responsible for managing employee retirements. Murray Ring Supervises all maintenance personnel, maintenance programs, and facilities upkeep throughout the district. He is a licensed electrician, HVAC technician, millwright, mason, locksmith, carpenter, heavy equipment operator and welder. SUPERVISOR OF TRANSPORTATION & SAFETY Bobby Anderson Responsible for pupil transportation and bus garage operations. He oversees bus route plans, schedules and routes as well as supervises the drivers. Bobby is also the school safety supervisor and safe & drugfree coordinator which includes work with the School Resource Officers. He developed the district crisis management plan and he serves as a school safety consultant, presenter and instructor across the state. SCHOOL NUTRITION MANAGER Brian Parkhurst Responsible for school nutrition programs, budgets, quality standards, equipment needs, and adherence to federal, state and local regulations. He ensures meals are cost effective and consistent with principles of good nutrition. Brian supervises school cafeteria managers and employees as well as communicates financial goals to managers. He implements policies and procedures and integrates sanitary and safety regulations.

TECHNOLOGY & NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR Tommy Schuyler Responsible for information technology and the district network of computers and related systems and software. He manages voiceover internet protocols and servers for the network and supervises technology employees. The department responds to daily technology needs and issues throughout the district. SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COORDINATOR Cara Skaggs Responsible for working with all stakeholders in continuous improvement in each school. She leads principals and teachers with guidance on curriculum, how to understand and use assessment data for change, and provides professional development. COORDINATED SCHOOL HEALTH Christine Hollifield Responsible for school-wide health management by ensuring health initiatives, programs and curricula are coordinated for sustaining a healthy environment for all. Develops parent and student partnerships and organizes health events as well as screenings. She provides staff development to promote health education, physical activity, nutrition, mental health and staff wellness.
