Styrian Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry Founded in 1929 as agricultural and forestry interest representation for farmers and forest owners in Styria. The main tasks are to: Represent the interests of agriculture and forestry in every aspect and in all areas Provide legal, economic, technical and social advice Department of Energy and Biomass - Heat and raw materials Since 2001 active in international EU projects

Wood Energy Contracting A group of farmers build the heating system and the woodchips storage room for a big building or a group of buildings. They rent a cellar and install the heating central in the cellar of the building. They operate the installations and sell the heat to the user of the building. Heat rate is index-linked and a heat supply contract is signed for 15 years. The installation varies in size between 50 and 250 kw.
Wood Energy Contracting Favourable locations schoolhouses, municipalities, hospitals, public buildings Raw material woodchips from regional forests Industrial woodchips max. moisture content of 30 35 %
Biomass District heating
District Heating Development in Austria The use of forest biomass for heat generation has a long tradition in Austria 43% afforestation As a natural raw material, wood has been used to produce local and district heat since the early 1980s. In the mid-1980s, local biomass heating networks began to be developed and constructed in rural areas of Austria Fundings: 60% 50% 40% 30% 25%???

Mistakes and challanges 1. Overestimation of the heat demand 2. Oversizing of the plant and the piping 3. To high investment costs 4. High running costs - costs for electricity - costs for raw material 70% - realistic calculation of cost for raw materials 5. Regional wood fuel supply pulp and paper industry 24
