and other tips that every Sage student should know Presented by: The Academic Advising Office The Student Services Office Updated: September 2014
All Sage students need to know how to navigate SageAdvisor in order to: Register for classes Check their midterm and final grades Check their Student Account Make a payment online View an unofficial transcript or program evaluation (degree audit) online
You can access SageAdvisor by logging into MySage and clicking on the tab at the top of the screen. Reminder: Your Sage email account is your primary form of contact with the College and should be checked daily.
You can also get to SageAdvisor through the Resources menu at Sage.edu.
Note: You may search for courses without logging in by clicking on this link. Note: Your Sage User ID and Password are the same for all Sage tools, including MySage and Moodle. Both of the aforementioned links will bring you to SageAdvisor s main menu. You will need to log in and click on the Students bar to access your account.
You can access your student account and academic information through the Students Menu. No one other than you should have access to your SageAdvisor account. Students wishing to have information discussed with their parents should complete a FERPA form. Please understand that no academic information is disclosed over the phone for security purposes.
You can access your Student Profile through the User Account menu. Be sure to verify that your contact information is correct here. If you need to make a correction, you can do so through the Office of Student Services. You can obtain a Change of Address Form online. ALBANY Admin. You can access your Student Account & Financial Aid information. Be sure that you are up to date with all Financial Aid documentation and that you accept your Financial Aid awards online. You can access your Student Statement online as well. You will not get a printed statement in the mail, so be sure to access your online statements via SageAdvisor to make payment arrangements prior to the billing due date. Student who do not make payment arrangements by the billing due date may be removed from courses. Be sure to follow up with the Student Services office with any questions.
Once you click on the Student Statement link it will bring you to a screen where you will select a term. Contact Student Services if you have questions about your bill. Financial Aid information can be found online at www.sage.edu/resources/student_services/financial_aid If you need help reading your statement, go to: www.sage.edu/resources/student_services/student_accounts/
Sample Student Statement To opt out of the College s health insurance, you must go online. Go to the Health Insurance information page on the Student Services site and follow the links to submit a waiver.
ADVISING & REGISTRATION Students are permitted to Drop/Add classes online each semester until the Drop/Add deadline (see the Academic Calendar for dates). After this deadline, students may withdraw from course until the end of the 12 th week of classes, but this CANNOT be done online; you must submit a form to Student Services. (Courses appear with a W on your transcript. See the Academic Calendar for dates.) Students cannot register for classes or drop/add a course if they have an outstanding balance resulting in a hold on the account. Students must be cleared by their faculty advisor prior to registering on SageAdvisor.
Use the Search/ Register for Sections option if you want to browse the availability of courses/sections. This search will yield all 100-level Biology classes, all WLD 120 sections & any Dance class in Troy.
One can see if courses are open and the number of available seats on this screen, along with section meeting times and location. Check the box next to the course(s) you would like to register for and hit Submit. Note that this action will bring you to another screen and WILL NOT register you yet.
You will need to select an Action (Register, Waitlist, Remove or Audit) for each course and hit Submit. You can also drop a course on this screen. It can be accessed directly from the Student Menu, as well.
You will receive confirmation of your submission in the Registration Results screen. If you do not receive this confirmation, you should assume that your registration attempt was not successful. You may receive an error message on this screen if you were not successful.
If a student has a hold on her account, she will not be able to register and will receive an error message that identifies the issue. In addition, if a student has a financial hold on her account, she will not have access to her grades, or many other screens on SageAdvisor.
Advisor Hold: Indicates that a student has not yet been cleared by their advisor to register. They should contact their advisor immediately to resolve this. If your faculty advisor does not respond, contact the department chair or the Advising Office for further assistance. Health Center Hold: Indicates that a student s immunizations are not up to date, or that a record has not been submitted. Students should contact the Wellness Center (SCA: 292-1917, RSC: 244-2261). Student Services Hold: Indicates that there is a past due bill. Students should contact Student Services to resolve this.
Pre-Requisites: Students might also be prohibited from registering for a course online if they have not started/completed a pre-requisite. Students should first register for all fall courses and then for all spring courses, in order to address this. If you are a transfer student who is in the process of completing or transferring a pre-requisite course from another institution, contact the Advising Office (RSCadvising@sage.edu or SCAadvising@sage.edu) to find out how you can register. If your advisor or the dept. chair has given you special permission to register for a course without the required pre-requisites, have them email you and print out the permission and bring it to Student Services. Or, complete a Drop/Add form and have the faculty member sign off on it. Turn in the form to Student Services and they will manually register you.
When there are no available seats in a required course, students should put themselves on a waitlist. (If an elective course is closed, students should simply select a different course/section that is open.) This is done through the Register and Drop Sections screen by simply selecting Waitlist on the Action drop-down menu associated with the desired course. For more information about the Waitlist process, you can access a handout online through RSC s Advising Office or SCA s Advising Office.
Be sure to check your Sage email account often if you are on a waitlist, as you will only have 48 hours to respond if a seat opens up in your desired course. If you receive an email giving you permission to register, go to the Manage My Waitlist link in the Students Menu and select an appropriate action.
Your final course schedule will not be mailed to you. You will only be able to access it online through SageAdvisor. You should check your schedule online before each semester begins in case there has been a change in room locations or course meeting times.
At the 7-week point in the semester, professors will submit Early Warnings for RSC students who are deficient in a course. The Advising Office notifies students (& their advisors) by email if they earned one. SCA students receive midterm grades for all courses. Advisors can access these as well.
Final grades are also accessed exclusively through SageAdvisor. Only final grades appear on your official transcript.
You can access a Transfer Equivalency Report online to see how your transfer credits were received at Sage. Courses may transfer in as a Sage equivalent course (FRE 202), as a specific department s elective (HIS-ELCT), or as general elective credit. Note: Only credits transfer, not grades.
Understanding your degree requirements: Students are responsible for ensuring that they meet all degree requirements (including general education requirements). Your faculty advisor and the Advising Office staff, along with the Registrar, can assist you in understanding these. Students can review the College Catalog online for an overview of program and general education requirements. Students can also access their Academic Evaluation (degree audit) online through SageAdvisor to assess which requirements they still need to complete. A handout is provided online to assist students in reading their academic evaluations.
The evaluation includes anticipated credits that students are either currently taking (IP) and those they are pre-registered for (PR). Students must complete a minimum of 120 credits (for a Bachelor s degree), at least 45 of which must be taken at Sage.
The Evaluation first lists General Education requirements and then major requirements. Grades for Sage courses are shown on the evaluation and transfer credits are indicated with TE.
The cumgpa in your major is calculated in the evaluation. All students must earn a minimum GPA of a 2.2 in their major (some programs have higher requirements) and a 2.0 cumgpa in order to graduate. Look for blank lines on your evaluation that indicate if a course is still needed.
In addition to major and other gen. ed. requirements, all Sage students must complete a certain number of liberal arts courses, which are identified on the evaluation. BA degrees: 90 liberal arts cr. BS degrees: 60 liberal arts cr. BBA/BFA: 30 liberal arts cr. General electives count toward the 120 total credit requirement.
