E-Mon Communication Gateway Utility Instructions for BACnet/mstp The E-Mon Communication Gateway utility will allow you to configure the Device Instance (Node ID) and other parameters needed for your BACnet/mstp network. If you do not have the CD that was supplied with your E-Mon device you may download the Utility at this link http://www.emon.com/manuals/installer_emon%20communication%20gateway%20utility_v1.01aa.zip 1. Install the Utility from CD or extract the zip file on a laptop pc running Windows based software. 2. *Important* Add the E-Mon Communications Gateway Utility to Windows Firewall exception list, or turn off Windows firewall! To view Windows Firewall Setting, go to the Windows Start Menu Run type in firewall.cpl click OK (see figure 1 & 2) (Figure 1 opens up the firewall settings) (Figure 2 turn Windows Firewall Off) A Cross Over Cat5e or better Ethernet RJ-45 cable is required. E-Mon provides a Patch cable for final connection to the router or switch. This will not work on pc s without auto-sensing Ethernet ports 3. Plug the cross over cable directly into your laptop wired Ethernet port and the other end to directly the Ethernet port inside the E-Mon device labeled ProtoCessor. This cannot be done from a router or switch. (see figure 3) (figure 3 ProtoCessor Ethernet Port shown) Page 1 of 5
4. Configure your Laptop and Network ip settings. a. From your pc, single left click Start, and choose Settings, Control Panel, single left click Network Connections, single left click on Local Area Connections. Single right click and choose Properties from the Pull down Menu. (see figure 4 ) b. Single left click Properties, opens Local Area Connection Properties. (see figure 5) (Figure 4) (figure 5 Local Area Connection Properties) (figure 6 Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties) c. Use the Scroll Bar on left side, and arrow down to; This connection uses the following items: Internet Protocol (TPC/IP) single left click to select, left click the rectangular Properties button. (figure 5). d. This will open another window; Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties as shown in (figure 6). Page 2 of 5
*Important* Document the ip setting or the ip address currently in use by your computer. You will need to restore this once the ProtoCessor is set up. e. Single left click on the radio button Use the following IP address (see figure 7). (figure 7) f. The default ip address of the ProtoCessor is listed on the device 192.168.1.24. Set the ip address of your computer to be a number close to the default IP address of the ProtoCessor. For example ip address 192.168.1.253 and Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 click OK (see figure 7). g. This completes the set up of your pc. h. With your cross over cable connected as described in step 3, open the E-Mon Communications Gateway Utility (figure 8). (figure 8) Page 3 of 5
i. Log shows the Found device ip=192.168.1.24 (figure 9). You are now connected to the E-Mon device and ProtoCessor. (figure 9) j. Left click Load Configuration and, the factory defaults will populate (figure 10). (figure 10) Page 4 of 5
k. Single left click to enter and change the fields for the Node ID(Device Instance), MAC Address as provided by your system integrator or IT department (figure 11). *Important* DO NOT CHANGE THE IP, MASK or GATEWAY! l. Single left click the Save Configuration Button (figure 12). *Important* Confirm the settings before you click the Yes Button (figure 13). m. Click OK and exit the Configuration Update Utility (figure 14). n. Restore your PC s TCP/IP configuration to the original setting remove the cross over cable. o. You are now ready to connect to the 3 position screw terminals on the left side of the ProtoCessor (figure 15) and run them to your BACnet/mstp front end. p. BACnet/mstp Baud Rate is 38,400 q. BACnet maximum MAC address is 127 r. MAC address of a max of 127 qualifies the meter as a MASTER device on the BACNET MS-TP network. s. MAC ADDRESS should be set to the lowest possible number between 1 and 127 for the best network performance. t. If the network has (2) MAC #11 s the system will fail. u. Each device must be identified by a unique Device Instance (Node ID). There cannot be (2) device instance 1 on the same mstp network. v. Please forward or obtain a copy of the installation manual with the BACnet Objects for your E-Mon device and give it to your System Administrator.
