REVIEW ON ANDROID BASED SOS EMERGENCY ALERT BUTTON Rajani T. Thakare 1, Prof. M.R. Huge number of mobile applications are developed using java. Smart phones are equipped with various features like GPS navigation, touch screen, broadband access and many more. These facilities of smart phones will help us to connect with the modern world. Various applications are developed in android and this is one of the applications for security purpose. This paper describes about a SOS application being developed and its successful implementation. The application helps those who surprisingly fall into a situation where instant communication is needed. It introduces mobile phone embedded with android based emergency alert button. The SOS button is mainly developed for women security purpose. If any emergency situation occurs or whenever anyone fall in trouble then this application will help them by tracking their location using GPS system.gps system will track the location of the registered user and with the help of location they can help the needy persons who had fallen into emergency situation, but the user first have to register herself to provide the location and the Gps connection should be on for sending message. The uniqueness of this application is that user can directly press the SOS button on the screen and directly communicate with the registered numbers and automatic background process will start i.e. location (latitude and longitude) of the user will be sent to all the pre-registered phone numbers in the application. The information will be sent to the numbers in the form of longitude and latitude. This application will help us to find the exact location of the person and we can easily track the location. INTRODUCTION Text messaging services are now a day s being used by everyone in daily life for easy communication or mainly for emergency situations. The Emergency Alert System is a media communication system that is designed to transmit emergency messages [4]. Security of women at night and at times even in day when travelling alone is a concern [1].It has been observed that instant communication of message is not possible any time, everywhere. This paper describes about a safety triggering application. SOS application is developed in android platform. The uniqueness of this application is that the user does not have to go through all the process of unlocking the screen first to trigger the service. He/she can directly press the power button, then SOS button will be displayed on the screen and user can directly click the SOS button. The application in the background will check out whether the GPS system is available or not and if available it will send the location to all the pre-registered numbers. With the help of longitude and latitude information one can easily trace the location of the person. This application will help the persons who surprisingly fall into an emergency situation and needs an instant communication. Day of day need of security is increasing for women, as many incidents we heard about rape cases they need security at an emergency level, so this application will help to provide security for them. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is the main key for this application. The location will be tracked with the help of GPS system, for using this application one must have GPS enabled in her mobile to provide current location to the friends and family members. The existing model had only enabled to send the location while the phone is on but the proposed model will also trigger the location after the phone will be switched off.
2. LITERATURE SURVEY 2.1Existing Android SOS Application There are lot of Android applications are available today. There are SOS based applications too which are developed using android platform. Some of the SOS applications are listed below. This application provides instructions for dealing with a variety of emergencies, including choking, strokes, allergic reactions and many more. (a)sos Emergency support prepared by Red Cross This application provides step-by-step instructions on dealing with a variety of emergencies, including choking, strokes, allergic reactions and many more. It is a free application; it provides no. of videos to coach a person through emergency protocols. If a person is not from the US, the application determines what country the person is in and dials the appropriate number [1]. (b)olalashe Emergency Alert Button (SOS) Olalashe Emergency SOS is an emergency SOS application. It allows entering in-case-of-emergencycontact from phonebook. Send SMS to registered contacts that the user is in trouble & Click the widget button to trigger the application [1]. (c)vith U app The popular Indian crime television series Gumrah intiated towards developing an emergency app for women security. The working of this app is such that we have to press the power button. In this app when the twice consecutively and it will start sending messages with a link to the location of the user. 2.2 Existing models: This paper describes four models which describes overall implementation of the project. 1.Registration of the user. 2.Register the numbers. 3.Check if GPS service is available or not. 4.Sending the text message to the pre-registered numbers. 2.2.1. Registration of the user First the user have to register herself/himself with some details.sos app will work only for the registered users. If the user is already registered then for using this app the user does not need to login again and again. The user can directly press the power button and the SOS button will be automatically displayed on the screen. Fig(a): SOS Button
2.2.2Register the numbers After registration of the user the user have to register the contacts of his/her family members to whom the message will be sent in case of emergency. After pressing the SOS button the emergency message will be sent to the pre-registered numbers. Fig(b):SOS screen 2.2.3 Check if GPS service is available or not 1.Some of the packages used to accomplish retrieving the location using GPS services are android. For tracking the location of the user the GPS service must be available on your phone. 2.GPS will track the exact current location of the person. 3.It will receives the information in the form of latitude and longitude. 4.This process will be held in background that as soon as the user press the SOS button,it will first check whether your phone has GPS system on or not and it will send the message only if the GPS system is enabled on your phone. 4. Sending the message to pre-registerd numbers 1. As soon as the alert button is pressed the emergency message will be sent to the pre-registerd numbers. 2. The SOS button is pressed and the location in the form of latitude and longitud e will be sent to the registerd contacts. 3. The message displayed on the screen as shown in following fig.(d) 3. PROPOSED MODEL Fig.(d) message displayed on screen The Emergency Panic Button is important mobile based application, which is used to provide facility to the customer who suffers from any emergency. Now a days the security of women not in night only but also in day is concerned for this we must need a security app. The proposed model is to be designed with a objective such that it has to be user friendly and triggering of the application should take less time. In emergency situation the location of the user must known precisely to all those persons to whom the message will be sent.instead of storing somewhere else the SOS button is displayed in the home screen of the mobile to avoid wastage of time navigation. For full functioning this application demands the GPS service to be available in the mobile phone.if the phone don t have GPS service and attempt to trigger this application then it will show an error message,but continue to send a message to the registerd phone numbers.this feature of this application is helpful for those users who don t have GPS enabled in their handset. Another feature of this application is that the location will be trace continuosly and it will send messages on updated locations when once the user clicks on the safety triggering button. The user can only stop these messagesby clicking stop button which is password based in the mobile to avoid waste of time navigation.this safety button triggers the application in the background and immediately displays the lo cation of the user in terms of latitude and longitude.
3.1 SOS BUTTON Fig.(e) Flowchart for SOS system working The proposed model is designed with the special objective that it has to be user friendly and it should take least time for triggering the application. The SOS button is mainly developed for emergency alert button. The purposed model is shown in fig(e) below. The SOS emergency panic button is for available for everyone. The user first has to register herself/himself to use this service. This button will works as an easily available one. Women must have this app installed on their mobile for their own security purpose. Fig(f).SOS panic button
3.2 PACKAGES USED The packages used to retrieve the location using GPS services are Android. Location, Location Listener and the package used for sending SMS to emergency numbers is android.telephony. SmsManager and add Preferences From Resource is used for calling the emergency numbers and retrieving them from the stored directory. Location based services provides both information and entertainment through mobile networks with mobile devices. Location based services are mainly used for tracking.sos application uses GPS system which trackes the location of the person trapped in emergency. A GPS tracking unit is a device that uses Global Positioning System to determine the precise location of the vehicle, person, or other assets to which it is attached. 4. CONCLUSION Fig.(g) GPS navigation SOS is the Android based safety Triggering Application which is very useful applicatio n mainly for girls safety. When we feel that we are in emergency situation such as travelling alone at night time, we can use this application so that on one click our location will sent to our family members or to any police station. This application mainly based on GPS service which will track the location of the user appropriately. So this application is having both safety and security which is essential in today s world.
