SYLLABUS BACHELOR OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION (B.P.E.) PART-I FOR THE YEAR 2014, 2015 & 2016 EXAMINATIONS OUTLINES OF TESTS The course of instruction for the Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.E.) Part-I consist of the following parts: Note: (i) (ii) PART- A THEORY (External) 550 marks. PART- B-I SKILL AND PROWESS 150 marks. -II FORMAL ACTIVITIES 50 marks. Examination in Skill and Prowess and Practical s shall be conducted jointly by an internal and external be clubbed into 4-5 groups and of each group of activities be examined by the two examiners indicated above. Half of the activities will be examined in November and the remaining half along with the final examination. The Principal will form the groups of activities and intimate the same to the University. Scoring Tables Athletics attached at the end of the syllabus be used. If a candidate who fails to qualify or who misses the examination in any activity/activities in the first term, it is obligatory for him to appear in the activities of the first term along with the final examination PART-A THEORY Note: Each Theory paper is of three hours duration irrespective of its weight age. (vi) Rules and regulations of the game. (vii) Tournaments played at National and International level. (viii) Records(World, Olympic, Asian and National Level) (ix) Awards in the game. (x) Books and magazine. (xi) Officiating (a) Duties of Officials (b) Knowledge of score sheets. (c) Signals of officiating (d) Technical Equipment for officiating. PART-B-II Formal Activity 50 Marks (External) (Lesson will be evaluated by One External and One Internal Examiner) (1) Gymnastics (2) Lazium (3) Drill and marching (4) Free hand exercise. PAPER-I: INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICAL EDUCATION Duration of the Paper: 3 hours Maximum marks: 100 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PAPER SETTER The question paper will consist of five sections A, B, C, D and E. Section A, B, C and D will have two questions from respective sections of the syllabus and will carry 15 marks each. Sections E will consist of 10 short-answer type questions which will cover the entire syllabus uniformly and will carry 40 marks in all. INTSTRUCTION FOR THE CANDIDATES Candidates are required to attempt one question each from the sections A, B, C and D the entire section E. SECTION-A

Alloys:-Definition, alloys of iron, copper and aluminum Sulphur:-Three kinds of sulphur, properties and uses. Phosphorus: Three kinds of phosphorus, properties and uses. Nutrition's:-Balance diet, its components, their sources and functions. Properties of Gases: Oxygen, Hydrogen, Carbon-dioxide- occurrence, preparation,properties and uses. SECTION C Heat:-Sources, Transmission of heat-conduction, convection and radiation. Measurement of heat: Specific heat, Thermal capacity and latent heat. Expansion:-Linear superficial and Cubical. Processes of melting, boiling and evaporation Light:-Luminous, Non-luminous, Transparent and translucent bodies. Refractive index. Magnetism and Electricity:-Magnet and their properties, Static electricity, charge current, Electrostatic field, Gold Leaf electroscope. SECTION D Lever:-Different types of lever and their mechanical advantages Equilibrium:-Types and principles of equilibrium and stability (f) Motion: (i) Type of motion (ii) Newton s law of motion (iii) Linear and angular acceleration speed and velocity. GENERAL SCIENCE PRACTICALS (i) 10 marks for each practical and 5 mark for the note book. (ii) Two practical's have to be performed by the candidates. 1. (i) Cardiac muscle (ii) Smooth muscle (iii) Skeletal muscle 4 Circulatory System (a) Structure of the heart, artery, veins, and capillaries. (b) Mechanism of circulation. (c) Systemic, pulmonary and portal circulation (d) Blood pressure and its measurement. SECTION C 5 Digestive System (a) Structure of digestive tract. (b) Elements of food. (c) Digestion of food, action of various enzymes on food. (d) Assimilation and absorption of food 6 Respiratory System (a) Structure of respiratory organs

Respiration:-How to see and check the vital capacity and use of spirometer. e. Demonstration of reflex action. f. Use of Models like the liver, kidney, stomach, heart, skin and brain. g. IMPORTANT INSTRUCTION FOR PAPER SETTER AND EXAMINER TESTING 1. From Prose and Story sections, two questions to be set offering internal choice. Students will attempt any one question. The question will carry 5 marks. 2. Seven short answer type questions to be set from story and prose and students will attempt any five. The question will carry 2 marks each total 10 Marks. 3. From Poetry section, two questions (summary and stanza) to be set offering internal choice. Students will attempt both the questions. The question will carry 2.5 marks each 5 marks. 3.
