Utah Lions Eye Bank Fall 2014 Transplant Games of America Event Outcomes The Utah Lions Eye Bank was honored to sponsor a bilateral corneal recipient to compete with Team Utah/Idaho in the Transplant Games of America (TGA) held in Houston, Texas, July 11th 15th. While weather in Houston was hot and humid as one might expect, this opportunity marked the first time corneal tissue recipients were invited to compete in the games alongside solid organ recipients and living donors. Corneal recipient, Fred Meaders from Ogden, Utah, won gold in both the singles bowling and golf partner events. Thirty-two teams comprised of recipients and living donors from across the United States competed vigorously in the following events: 5K, Badminton, Ballroom Dancing, Basketball, Bowling, Cornhole, Cycling, Golf, Darts, Racquetball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Poker, Tennis, Track & Field, Trivia, Virtual Triathlon, and Volleyball. With the final overall medal count for Team Utah/Idaho of: 45 Gold, 15 Silver, and 10 Bronze, eye bank staff members are extremely proud of Fred and all Team Utah/Idaho competitors as the team was able to win the Team Cup Award for the second time in two consecutive games! Please join us in congratulating all participants, sponsors, and especially, the donors and their families, who Continued page 2 Transplant Games of America pages 1-3 Dates to Remember page 4 Heart of the Lion page 4 Welcome New Eye Bank Team Members page 5 Friends of the Eye Bank page 6
