This guide outlines the key information regarding the set-up and use of your SoteriaDrive app, if you have any queries you should contact your insurance broker. Quick guide 1 When first opening the app you ll 2 You ll need to register your app be presented with the SoteriaDrive Terms and Conditions disclaimer. We request you read these carefully before proceeding. For Android you ll need to scroll down through the text to accept to your SoteriaDrive policy using the Register option from the app s main menu. You ll just need to enter your policy reference number and your vehicle registration mark (number plate). or decline. For Apple devices you ll need to actively click on view. 3 Recording a journey is easy, whilst on the home screen select the Record button. You can then leave your phone in its cradle or on a secure, non-slip part of your dashboard with the screen locked to save battery. The device does not need to be cradled, however cradling may improve the accuracy of the data your device submits. Please note, you should only interact with the application whilst stationary in a safe and appropriate location. Both the Android and Apple versions of the app contain auto-start and auto-stop, so will automatically start and stop when driving is detected. This means that you don t need to interact with the app, except to review feedback and achievements. However you will need to manually start and stop the app on first use to ensure that it successfully connects. You will also need to manually start and stop your next trip if your phone ever loses power and shuts down. Confidentiality Statement SSP Limited has prepared this document in good faith. 4 Selecting Stop when your journey has finished will then automatically submit your journey to be scored (subject to network coverage). Once we ve analysed your trip, you ll be able to review your journey and any feedback given under the History section in the app s main menu. Selecting the speech bubble icon will display your feedback. The icons on the map will also show you any speeding events. When first using the app, maps will be disabled if you do not have a Wi-Fi connection. This is to minimise potential data usage. You can enable maps using the Settings option on the app s main menu. 5 As part of your policy, you ll be requested to upload certain documents as detailed in our How does SoteriaDrive work? section further on in this document. You can do this by selecting Docs from the app s main menu. Tap on the greyed out area to activate your device s camera and take a picture of each document. Each document is uploaded as you go. The basics What s the main reason for getting a SoteriaDrive policy? Your SoteriaDrive policy rates your car insurance premium based on the way you drive. Most car insurance policies just use information known as rating factors. These usually include information such as age groups, years of experience, where your vehicle is kept overnight, etc. SoteriaDrive is aimed at drivers who feel they drive well and should be rewarded with a better premium. Does my policy have a curfew? There are no curfews on SoteriaDrive. However driving between the hours of 23:00 and 05:00 may impact your driving score. What happens when I take out a SoteriaDrive policy? You will need to have downloaded and registered your app within 8 days of policy purchase. You need to use the app each time you drive to make sure you get the best possible score for your driving and maximise your discounts throughout the year. How much does the SoteriaDrive app cost? The cost of your smartphone app is covered within your insurance premium; there is no additional amount to be paid. How do I download the app? iphone users can download the SoteriaDrive app from the itunes app store. Android smartphone users can download the app from Google Play. Remember that all named drivers on your policy should download the app. Please note that iphone users will need to run ios 6 or above and Android phone users will need to support Android gingerbread or above. If you do not download the app this will result in cancellation of your policy. What if I want to change my car? You can change your vehicle as normal. Your broker may charge you a processing fee in addition to any additional or return premium deemed appropriate by your insurer. Can I earn a No Claims Discount? Yes, you can. Can I earn No Claims Discount as well as safe driving discount? Your broker/insurer will apply your No Claims Discount and your Safe Driving Discount separately, so if you are a safe driver with no claims on your policy, you could see even bigger savings. 4 5
How does SoteriaDrive work? Using SoteriaDrive How do you know about my driving style? The SoteriaDrive smartphone app uses data from satellites to work out detailed information about your driving style. We have an extensive and detailed database of the speed limits on roads across the UK and Europe. Your actual speed is reported by the app and we compare it with this data. We can also use your data to establish the time of day you re driving, whether we believe you are stuck in congestion, if the route you re taking is familiar. What aspects of my driving do you monitor? We track your speed, the time of day you drive, how smoothly you brake and accelerate, how familiar a route is to you, how confident you are when joining major routes from minor ones, the types of roads you use (i.e. motorways, A roads, B roads) and reckless speeding. In addition, we may use the data to make sure your car is usually kept at the address you said it would be. We may also monitor additional factors for research and product enhancement reasons. These won t affect your score unless we tell you we are changing the areas we look at. We will always give you advanced notice of this sort of change. Are there any times that you can t track or monitor my car or driving? Yes, as the smartphone app uses GPS systems and transmits the data it records using a mobile telecommunications network. There will be certain locations throughout the country where the GPS signal is not particularly stable. These will often be known areas where mobile phone or sat nav signals are troublesome. There are also more obvious cases such as tunnels and underground car parks where GPS zones are not available. In some cases with the SoteriaDrive app, you may have a GPS signal but no mobile or Wi-Fi signal. In these instances we will still receive and score your data once your device is able to re-connect to your Wi-Fi or mobile network, it may just take a little longer than usual. Can I see the data from my SoteriaDrive smartphone app? Yes, you can see the trips you ve made through the history screen on your SoteriaDrive app. Can you monitor me if I m not driving in the UK? We can, but for data purity, we will not score your trips abroad. Is there anything else I need to do when I register my app? Yes, you will need to upload pictures of the following documents via the Documents section on your SoteriaDrive app. Proof of your No Claims Discount (if applicable). This can be found on the renewal letter from your existing insurer. The Vehicle Registration Document (V5/log book) for the vehicle that has been insured. If you have recently purchased the vehicle, the New Keeper Supplement is acceptable. Your counterpart (paper) driving license, and the licenses of any additional drivers named on the policy. What happens if I forget my documents? You must provide your documents or your policy will be cancelled, you should speak to your broker for further information. What changes when I ve purchased a policy? Once you ve purchased a policy you will need to register your app using your policy reference number and vehicle registration number. It s really easy to do; whilst on the home screen, select More and then Register. There are a few extra terms and conditions you need to review and agree to. What happens once I ve registered? All you need to do now is upload copies of your driving documentation as explained in the Is there anything else I need to do when I register my app? section. Can my insurance premium go up and down? Yes, your insurer will review your driving score four times a year and adjust your premium accordingly. Whilst a good driving score may save you money, a poor driving score could result in an increased insurance premium. Please note that should your insurer cancel your policy due to your driving standards, then you will need to disclose this to any future insurers. What else can the app do? The SoteriaDrive app is a clever little thing. You can review your previous trips using the History icon where we provide you with journey by journey feedback. You can also notify your insurer of an accident or incident using the Incident section from the app s main menu. We will request you put some details surrounding the incident into the app along with a couple of pictures of any damage. Subject to network coverage, this will notify your insurer to contact you and it will also include your current location. Alternatively as you ve registered your device, your app will store your insurers contact details so you can always opt to contact them. How much of my data allowance will SoteriaDrive use? The app uses very little data; the average policy holder will use roughly 10MB per month vs. a standard data allowance of around 150MB per month. You can avoid using your data allowance by disabling your mobile data whilst using the app and making sure you have an active Wi-Fi connection whilst at home. This will mean a delay in receiving feedback as we will not receive data immediately after you complete trips, but it will not affect your score. 6 7
