Job Description Job title: Department/School: Lecturer (Clinical Tutor) Psychology Grade: 8 Location: University of Bath Campus Job purpose The post is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist with research, clinical training and supervisory experience to participate in the development and running of an entirely new clinical psychology training programme and associated research centre at the University of Bath. Ideally the person who is appointed to this position will be able to complement the existing clinical, academic and research expertise of the programme team. The appointee will be expected to work closely with the Clinical Director. Source and nature of management provided Responsible to the Course Director for the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology, under the overall direction of the Head of Department of Psychology. The appointee will report to and be line managed by the Clinical Director. Staff management responsibility None. Career and Professional Development Activities To engage in knowledge transfer, continuous professional development, consultancy and other forms of external engagement, as appropriate. From time to time you may be asked to assist in the facilitation of CPD activities. This will form part of your substantive role and you will not receive additional Page 1

payment for these activities. Special conditions In order to sustain professional registration with the HPC, BABCP and BPS the appointee will be expected to undertake an appropriate level of clinical work external to their University contract which is 0.6 FT. Main duties and responsibilities To participate in the development and implementation of placements and their assessment for the Bath Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. In particular to bring specialist knowledge in areas not presently covered by other team members, such as Older Adults or CAMHS. To participate in the academic and supervisory management of the Clinical Psychology Programme. To contribute directly to the teaching, training and supervision and mentorship of trainees on the D.Clin.Psych. programme and other courses within the department as required. Contribution to the support, training and development of clinical supervisors. To undertake high quality clinically-relevant research leading to peer reviewed publications. To undertake their own research, including by obtaining external funding, including the supervision of PhD students. Mentoring will be provided and collaboration with colleagues in the department is expected. To establish research collaborations within the University and/or with Clinical Psychologists in the region, including mentoring arrangements with less experienced clinical researchers and D.Clin.Psych. research projects. 1 Academic To work closely with the Clinical Director in the development and implementation of the clinical placement component of the Programme. To further participate in the academic and clinical components of the clinical psychology programme, working in collaboration with other team members, other university staff and regional clinical psychologists. The post holder will be expected to work with the course staff group for the D.Clin.Psych. course in order to maintain the highest standards consistent with HPC/BPS recognition of clinical psychology training. To provide teaching, training and research supervision input in specialist areas complementing other team members. The person appointed is likely Page 2

to have expertise in Older Adults or CAMHS. To participate in programme committees and to represent the course regionally and nationally as appropriate and directed by the programme committees. To contribute directly to the teaching, training, supervision and mentorship of trainees on the D.Clin.Psych. programme and other courses within the department as required. To contribute to the support, training and development of clinical supervisors and teachers. To be involved in the selection and admissions processes for entrants to the programme 2 Research To undertake high quality clinically relevant research leading to peer reviewed publications in high quality internationally recognized journals appropriate to the subject area. To apply for and obtain external peer reviewed funding for own clinically relevant research whenever possible. This may be as Principal Investigator, or in collaboration with other members of the course team or University. Re-arrangement and reduction of other duties would be possible in the case of substantial funding requiring major time commitments by the appointee. Supervise and support clinical psychology trainees and/or PhD students where appropriate in undertaking doctoral level research under the guidance of the Course Director as required. To establish research collaborations within the University and/or with Clinical Psychologists in the region, including mentoring arrangements with less experienced researchers in the University and NHS.
