Level 3 Child Psychology Cost of course: Pay in Full Payment Plan: Deposit followed by 6 monthly installments Overview Prior study is not a prerequisite - you just need a passion for the subject matter! Whether you are a parent wanting to gain more understanding of their child's development needs, a social worker seeking further expertise in dealing with family situations involving children, or a professional educator needing to broaden knowledge of their charges' psychology, this is for you! Requirements A reasonable level of literacy is required, but there are no entry restrictions. You just need a keen interest in the subject, and will ideally have studied the subject or ancillary disciplines at a lower level if you want to progress quickly. Non-Regulated Qualification Endorsed by Focus Awards under the FQP Scheme This is a non-regulated qualification endorsed by Focus Awards under their Focus on Quality Provision (FQP) Scheme. Focus Awards is a member of the Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB) and is regulated by Ofqual. Established 2011, Focus Awards is founded on three core values Honesty, Integrity and Fairness that underpin everything they do. The FQP scheme is designed to give endorsement to non-regulated qualifications in a wide range of subjects. On successful completion you will receive a Focus Awards Certificate of Achievement and a Diploma from Home Study Campus. Although the materials are comprehensive and informative, we do expect you to carry out your own investigations. After all, if you are not prepared to do your own research, you should be asking yourself if this is the right subject choice for you! Although, there are no entry requirements, you do need a reasonable level of literacy to be able to both understand the concepts introduced, and get the most out of the materials. Snap Shot Learning Outcomes UNDERSTAND THE BROAD PRINCIPALS UNDERPINNING THE STUDY OF
CHILD PSYCHOLOGY UNDERSTAND THE PRINCIPLES OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT UNDERSTAND THE PRINCIPLES OF SOCIAL, GENDER AND MORAL DEVELOPMENT UNDERSTAND THE PRINCIPLES OF COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT UNIT 1: INTRODUCTION What is Child Psychology? Psychology As a Science Research Methods Underlying Debates in Child Psychology - nature nurture and personality UNIT 2: SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND THE FAMILY Child's sense of self and personality Attachment Privation, deprivation, institutionalisation Parenting styles and effects on child development UNIT 3: SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT Social interaction, learning and play Gender development (social and cognitive theories) Moral development (social and cognitive theories) Pro- and anti-social behaviour UNIT 4: COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT Development of sensory perception Language development and acquisition Cognitive development Measured intelligence
There is continuity between the units, and when, for example, the same psychologist is mentioned in different sections and/or units, you will be reminded. This will help you to learn each topic at a time, and to build up a more complete overview of child psychology. The first time a key psychologist is mentioned, a short biographical sketch is included to help you see the psychologist's theories in their historical and cultural context. Psychology is a social science which means it studies people in a more holistic way than a physical science, such as biology does. 'A' level psychology courses (which are also level 3) have been recently modified to focus more on psychology being a science. As with current 'A' level courses, the scientific nature of psychology is introduced in Unit 1, and forms an integral part of all other units. Career Prospects When you have successfully completed your studies you will receive a certificate of achievement in Child Psychology from Focus Awards. This is a non-regulated qualification which is endorsed by Focus Awards under the FQP scheme. They are not nationally recognised qualifications; on successful completion of your studies you will receive a Focus Awards Certificate of Achievement and a Diploma from Home Study Campus. Ofqual, the qualification regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland regulate focus Awards as an Awarding Organisation. Non-regulated qualifications endorsed under the FQP scheme are ideal for professionals required to demonstrate commitment to CPD (Continuous Professional Development), and for those wanting to gain specialist knowledge of a particular subject. What is a clinical psychologist? A clinical psychologist works with clients with the aim to reduce distress and improve psychological wellbeing. They often work as part of a multidisciplinary team (such as doctors, community mental health nurses, social workers, etc.) to help their clients overcome problems. Clinical psychologists work with people of all ages with varying needs, including those with: Challenging behaviours Depression Eating disorders Addiction problems Learning disabilities
Schizophrenia What does a clinical psychologist do on a day-to-day basis? Clinical psychologists will be responsible for assessing the needs of a client using varying psychometric tests, observation and interviews. They will work alongside other professionals to devise and monitor an appropriate programme of support for the client. Clinical psychologists will work with clients to provide therapy and treatment for a range of mental health problems How do I become a qualified clinical psychologist? Obtaining status as a qualified clinical psychologist requires the completion of a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited psychology degree. You will usually need a classification of 2:1 or above, although some providers will also accept a 2:2 degree plus a Masters degree. 3 years of postgraduate study leading to a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology is needed to be eligible for chartered status and entry onto the HPC register, which then enables you to use the protected clinical psychologist title. How much can I expect to earn as a clinical psychologist? The starting salary for a trainee clinical psychologist is around 25,528, rising to 30,460 for qualified staff. This rises to 46,621 for more experienced psychologists and as much as 45,254-80,000 for those responsible for managing departments or large specialist sections. FAQS Why is there no telephone number on your website? We are living in an age of fast Internet communication and we have identified that most of our students communicate with us by . You will be introduced to the different forms of writing, shown how to develop your own style and research and deliver compelling content. In any form of writing, from articles and blog posts to novels and technical documents, content is key. What will I cover? Your studies will cover the areas of study listed above through detailed exploration of
the subject matter. You will also receive tasks and prompts for further personal exploration and research to carry out so that you can gauge how much you have learned. There are plenty of examples to help you but personal research is a prerequisite, so be prepared to use your initiative to fully answer the assignments. Is it accredited? This is a non-regulated qualification endorsed by Focus Awards under the FQP scheme. Although the learning materials are comprehensive and informative, we do expect you to carry out your own investigations. After all, if you are not prepared to do your own research, you should be asking yourself if this is the right subject choice for you! Your work is not graded; assignments are simply identified as Pass, Fail or Referred. For assignments not passed at first attempt, your tutor will advise on the improvements to be made to obtain a Pass on a reworking. Focus Awards will issue a certificate of achievement on successful completion of all the assignments. Is this a nationally recognised qualification? This enables your tutor to properly assess the standard and style of your work for each section, and give you feedback which will be used on your next assignment; a process of continuous improvement. On obtaining feedback and comment you will either move on to the next assignment or review or rework the one you submitted. If I fail an assignment can I retake it? Yes, your tutor will ask you to resubmit your assignment and give you some pointers as to where you could improve. Is there a time limit or any deadlines? Your studies should be completed within 12 months, but can be extended for a small fee if your tutor supports your request. As a rough guide, depending on your circumstances and commitment, you can complete your studies in about 100 study hours. There are no other deadlines to meet.
Is there a word count for my assignments? Although a word count is not given for the tutor marked assignments, it is important that you demonstrate to your tutor that you have fully understood the questions; a comprehensive Study Guide is included with your materials. Many students start slowly at first, but your tutor will give guidance to help and encourage you to improve. Can I cancel if I do not think this is right for me? Yes, you can return your materials within 7 days in accordance with the terms and conditions on our web site: Do I need a computer to complete my studies?
