I was selected with several other students to help design a survey for a local community center to assess how well it was meeting the needs of the community. They used the information from the survey to apply for grants and other resources that helped keep the center open. August 1994 Volunteer, Teacher s Assistant to Hillsides Education Center, Hillsides Home for Children, Pasadena, California August 1995 Duties: Worked in a fourth and fifth grade classroom. Helped with everything from teaching students how to read, helping with general class assignments, and motivating the students. (The school was for severally emotionally disturbed children who had not done well at mainstream schools.) WORKSHOP EXPERIENCE BE PROUD BE RESPONSIBLE. June Community Wellness Project at Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, Louisiana. Received training on how to implement and teach the Be Proud! Be Responsible! HIV/AIDS Education Curriculum. Presented a workshop to high school students Fall DRUG RECOGNITION SCHOOL. August Public Agency Training Counsel, Lafayette, Louisiana. Received 16 hours of training on recognition of various types of drugs, search and seizure policies and laws related to schools and school personnel, current student drug trends and use, and basic drug intervention. ASSERTIVENESS WORKSHOP. October Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, Louisiana. Co-led 1 hour Assertiveness workshop, focused on helping undergraduates

4 understand how passive vs. assertive they were and gave examples of some skills they could utilize in situations where they wanted to be more assertive. Information about assertiveness was provided within a cognitive-behavior framework. Practical assertiveness strategies were described. This workshop was conducted as part of my practicum requirement. PROCRASTINATION WORKSHOP. November Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, Louisiana. Co-led 1 hour Procastination workshop, focused on methods for reducing procrastination, effective study habits, and time management. This workshop was conducted as part of my practicum requirement.
