3 January May 2012 MSU Child Emotions Lab, Michigan State University Principal Investigator: Catherine Emily Durbin, Ph.D. The MSU Child Emotions Lab s research focuses on child temperaments. The lab looks at how temperament changes throughout development. The lab also studies how parents influence a child s temperament and emotional stability. - Assisted with conducting and recording the laboratory tasks. - Helped with coding and data entry. - Learned how to code and understand children s facial, vocal, and bodily expressions. - Enhanced knowledge in the area of child temperament. WORK EXPERIENCE Lab Coordinator and Research Technician September July 2013 Ofen Lab for Cognitive and Brain Development, Wayne State University Principal Investigator: Noa Ofen, Ph.D. The Ofen Lab s research focuses on memory and brain development throughout the lifespan. Participants take behavioral assessments to help measure IQ levels, cognitive abilities, and memory skills. While inside an MRI, participants do various memory tasks. - Administered behavioral assessments to children, adolescents, and young adults. California Verbal Learning Test- Children s Version (CVLT- C) Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test, Second Edition (KBIT- 2) Woodcock- Johnson III- Cognitive Battery (WJ- III) Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals, Forth Edition (CELF- IV) - Organized lab meetings and other lab related events. - In charge of recruitment and scheduling participants and their families. - Trained other research assistants on behavioral assessments and lab protocol. - Helped with analysis of behavioral assessment data. - Augmented knowledge of fmri research with adults and children - Gained experience interacting with families, children, and young adults through recruitment, scheduling, and assessing our tasks in a professional manner. Selected Family Intervention Program Supervisor: Jennifer Travieso Task Supervisors: Sara Fulbright and Erika Meganck The Selected Family Intervention (SFI) Program provides interventions for families who are experiencing challenges with substance use, criminal behavior, mental health issues, and abuse and/or neglect. - Attended trainings in Domestic Violence Awareness, HIV/AIDS, Motivational Interviewing, Safety in the Community and Collaborative Documentation. - Learned how to write and enter session notes and other documentations. - Trained to assess clients and develop action plans with them. - Gained counseling skills, especially cognitive- behavioral and motivational interviewing techniques.

4 Youth Advocate May 2010 December 2010 MSU Adolescent Diversion Project, Michigan State University Supervisor: LaTonya Demps Alternative 18- week program for young offenders in Ingham Country focusing on obtaining the youth s unmet needs and helping them avoid further involvement with the juvenile justice system. - Trained in specific intervention techniques geared toward the youth s individual case. - Developed interpersonal communication skills through a one- on- one intervention with the youth and their family. - Learned to resolve and mediate conflicts in a quick, but appropriate manner. - Attained experience working with diverse cultures. - Maintained appropriate confidentiality with the youth and family concerning written and verbal communication. - Expanded knowledge of community resources and the criminal justice system.
