12 Personal Tutorials Aerospace The personal tutor acts as a professional mentor to guide, help and support you throughout your degree. 13 Personal Tutorials Aerospace Useful webpage: /infocurrent Year 1 Essential Course Information Personal Tutorials You are allocated a personal tutor at the start of Year 1 As far as possible you will keep the same personal tutor throughout your degree Personal tutors are not required to provide specialist academic guidance (but should advise on where to obtain such guidance), to solve all problems or to act as a trained counsellor or careers adviser.

Their main role will be to support the project but they may also act as a secondary personal tutor. In particular, it is very likely that you will want references from your project supervisor in addition to your personal tutor.

17 Useful webpage: Maths Support This is a mathematically demanding course. Even if you have an A grade in A Level Maths, you will struggle if you do not attend Maths (MAS156). A COMPULSORY test for all students will take place on Wednesday 23 rd September 2015 at 9.00am pm in Computer Rooms ME03 and ME04, Sir Frederick Mappin Building.

19 Useful webpage: English Language Support English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) offers a Technical English Assessment (TEA) A COMPULSORY Technical English Assessment for all international students will take place on Thursday 24 th September 2015 at 9.00am in Room C28, Portobello Centre.

20 Useful webpage: English Language Support The Technical English Assessment (TEA) is a diagnostic instrument to direct you to appropriate support The TEA consists of technical writing, listening, reading and summary writing Please note your IELTS entry scores are generally the minimum requirement you will benefit from further support!

You will be directed to further support within the English Language Teaching Centre. Your attendance will be monitored.

22 Lectures Aerospace Useful webpage: current Attendance Attendance is compulsory the University expects you to attend all timetabled activities Students who get good degrees are those who attend and engage with their studies We monitor your attendance and will take action if you do not attend regularly. There can be serious implications for students who fail to engage.

29 Aerospace: How to Pass Year 1 Useful Webpage: /infocurrent Exams and Progression Important information is available in the E-Handbook about regulations relating to exams and assessment, e.g. how many attempts you can have at passing Year 1, what the pass mark is. It s your responsibility to read this!

30 Aerospace: How to Pass Year 1 Useful Webpage: /infocurrent Exams and Progression You must pass Global Engineering Challenge Week (taking place in the week commencing Monday 25 January 2016) if you do not attend the full week, you will fail the course!

31 You should be aware that You can t resubmit work or resit an exam for a better mark You are only allowed 3 attempts to sit each assessment If you fail in February or June, you must resit in August No one should make commitments during the August Resit Examination Period The University can and does exclude students

32 Feedback: What Should You Expect? The amount of written feedback will be minimal compared to what you will have received at A Level You will receive feedback through individual and group discussion, group feedback, reviewing of exam scripts, tutorials, and marks on work, e.g. lab reports It is your responsibility to obtain feedback when needed and collect feedback from the IPO
