1 Church Sponsorship Program If theological education will increase your power for Christ, is it not your duty to gain that added power? Never say you are losing time by going to school. You are saving time, buying it up for the future and storing it away. Time used in storing power is not lost. - A. T. Robertson

2 Dear Pastor, My name is Andy Deane and I am the Director at Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta, CA. I am writing to share with you about our new Church Sponsorship Program. Our hope is that your church will choose a member from your youth group, church or school to sponsor to attend CCBC in exchange for that student interning at your church during each of the semester breaks, and up to one year after they graduate. The consistent internship in between semesters is what is key to this program s success. Without this connection it is understandable that churches would be reluctant to sponsor a student to head to California for fear that person they ve invested in would not return to their home church after graduation. With this internship the student will have a chance to apply what they ve been learning back at their home church between semesters. Students who are plugged in and have staff relationships at their home churches are more likely to want to return there to serve after graduation. Each semester we see the Lord change the lives of the students as they seek Him in His Word. The number one reason we are given for why students do not return to CCBC is a lack of finances. Many students would love to continue their education but do not get enough employment during breaks to cover the subsequent semester s cost. We hope that you will pray about partnering with a student as they study the Word at Bible college. THE STUDENT RECEIVES: Full tuition ($3,500) or partial tuition ($1,750) covered by the church for each semester agreed upon. An internship each semester break at their home church to practically apply what they learn at CCBC. THE CHURCH GAINS: 20 hours / week unpaid internship for up to 2 summer and 2 winter breaks. Access to the student s grades each semester, upon request, to make sure they are being diligent in their studies. Access to a CCBC staff member, to discuss the behavioral status of the student, upon request. An optional paid internship after graduation for 3-12 months. INTERNSHIP STRUCTURE: Please research your state s laws concerning non-profit unpaid internships to make sure it is compliant with local laws such as issuing a 1099-MISC form to the student to report the tuition payment that was made on their behalf. Contact us for ideas for implementing a mutually beneficial internship program at your church. WHAT S IN THIS PACKET: Church Sponsorship Program Agreement (the church and the student will sign this form). Implementation Info (all the information you need to execute this program effectively). Academic Release Form (CCBC needs this form signed for us to release grades/behavior status to you upon request). The Semester Schedule (see what classes will be available for your sponsored student). This program is available at CCBC Murrieta only. Please contact us if you have any questions. God Bless, Andy Deane

3 Implementation Info The following is designed to give you all the information that you need to implement the Church Sponsorship Program effectively. Please contact us with any questions that aren t answered here. Ways to Inform Your Church Place the CCBC flyers on your church s info counter or distribute at youth group meetings. Share the CCBC Promo video during your announcements ( and let the church know about this new program and how they can partner with you financially through giving. How to Choose a Student to Sponsor How you decide who you will sponsor is completely up to your church s vision for it, but it is helpful to decide beforehand your church s selection criteria to avoid confusion and allegations of unfairness. Examples of selection criteria are: A student who has faithfully volunteered at the church over the years. A student that feels called to full time vocational ministry. A student that is a new believer and desires to be built up in his/her faith. A student in your church s high school (or home school co-op) that excelled academically. Share the CCBC Promo video with your youth group or school ( Explain the Church Sponsorship Program to the students and ask them to apply for it. Schedule interviews with all interested students and choose who you will sponsor. Review the contract with the student and have them sign it (make a copy for them). How to Apply & Pay Tuition Ask the student you ve chosen to apply to CCBC online at Review the class schedule and have them pray about which courses they should take. Once they re accepted, mail a copy of the signed contract, along with a check, to CCBC. You may also call the CCBC office at to pay over the phone with a credit card. How to Learn More About CCBC Watch our informational videos. Visit to watch the following: A Day in the Life a Bible college student video Alumni Testimonial videos Semester Highlight videos Click around our website at and download the CCBC General Catalog Watch 3 free classes: Bible Study Methods, History of Redemption, Galatians ( Contact us by phone at or by at [email protected]. Be Creative Some items in this packet can be modified to meet your church s unique needs and goals. Contact us with ideas. The suggested format has the student doing an unpaid internship, but if the Lord leads you to bless the student with a paid internship or stipend then make those changes as resources allow for them.

6 Calvary Chapel Bible College Notification of Rights under FERPA for Postsecondary Institutions 1 The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) afford eligible students certain rights with respect to their education records. (An eligible student under FERPA is a student who is 18 years of age or older or who attends a postsecondary institution.) These rights include: 1. The right to inspect and review the student's education records within 45 days after the day the College receives a request for access. A student should submit to the registrar, dean, head of the academic department, or other appropriate official, a written request that identifies the record(s) the student wishes to inspect. The school official will make arrangements for access and notify the student of the time and place where the records may be inspected. If the records are not maintained by the school official to whom the request was submitted, that official shall advise the student of the correct official to whom the request should be addressed. 2. The right to request the amendment of the student s education records that the student believes is inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student s privacy rights under FERPA. A student who wishes to ask the school to amend a record should write the school official responsible for the record, clearly identify the part of the record the student wants changed, and specify why it should be changed. If the school decides not to amend the record as requested, the school will notify the student in writing of the decision and the student s right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment. Additional information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided to the student when notified of the right to a hearing. 3. The right to provide written consent before the College discloses personally identifiable information from the student's education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent. The school discloses education records without a student s prior written consent under the FERPA exception for disclosure to school officials with legitimate educational interests. A school official is a person employed by the College in an administrative, supervisory, academic, research, or support staff position (including law enforcement unit personnel and health staff); a person serving on the board of trustees; or a student serving on an official committee, such as a disciplinary or grievance committee. A school official also may include a volunteer or contractor outside of the College who performs an institutional service of function for which the school would otherwise use its own employees and who is under the direct control of the school with respect to the use and maintenance of personally identifiable information from education records, such as an attorney, auditor, or collection agent or a student volunteering to assist another school official in performing his or her tasks. A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review an education record in order to fulfill his or her professional responsibilities for the College. Upon request, the school also discloses education records without consent to officials of another school in which a student seeks or intends to enroll. 4. The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the College to comply with the requirements of FERPA. The name and address of the Office that administers FERPA is: Family Policy Compliance Office U.S. Department of Education 400 Maryland Avenue, SW Washington, DC Model Notification of Rights under FERPA for Postsecondary Institutions, U.S. Department of Education, (accessed March 18, 2014) Murrieta Hot Springs Road Murrieta California [email protected] Fax: Version: Spring 2014
