FEBBC/Y Youth Commission The Youth Leadership Training Program, offers a way for members of Fellowship Baptist Churches to train for professional youth ministry. A creative and innovative blend of mentored learning, in-church training, and formal academic courses develops a godly pastoral perspective and The Local Church Northwest Baptist Seminary effective leadership skills in an affordable manner. If admitted individuals complete both levels of the program, they would earn an accredited Master s degree while they are being mentored by experienced ministry leaders. 3 Youth Leadership Training Program Schedule The following is a proposed schedule of courses for the duration of the Youth Leadership Training Program. Students are free to customize their own schedule with the advice of both the Seminary and the church. It should be noted, however, that the Diploma must be completed (minimum G.P.A. 3.0) before the student can be admitted to Master of Arts courses within ACTS Seminaries. The Diploma part of the program will include a significant component of closely mentored, practical, in-church training. Admission to the Master s component of the program will be on academic probation for the first 15 credits of the Master s level study pending achievement of an acceptable GPA. First Stage: Diploma in Youth Ministry - (30 credits) Fall Semester (12 credits) YMN 301 Foundations of Youth Ministry (3) YMN 310 SonLife Strategies (3) YMN 311 Youth Ministry Programming (2) YMN 401 The People of God and the Practice of Ministry (4) Spring Semester (11 credits) YMN 302 Introduction to Youth Ministry (3) YMN 312 SonLife Advanced I (3) YMN 402 Youth Counselling (4) YMN 500 Research Strategies (1) (this is an ACTS prerequisite RES 500) Summer Semester (7 credits) YMN 403 Spiritual Formation for Leaders (3) YMN 404 Evangelism and Youth Ministry (4) ( or ) YMN 405 Missions and Youth Please note that students are not obligated to continue to the MACS program but could conclude their studies with the diploma program. Second Stage: Master of Arts in Christian Studies [MACS] - (51 credits) The MACS is offered by Northwest Baptist Seminary through its participation in the ACTS Consortium (Trinity Western University). All ACTS rules and protocols apply. The degree can be completed in two years (though a student can take longer if desired). Students can be expected to contribute as many as 40 hours of work per credit hour over the course of the 15 weeks of the semester. A student would then need to commit to 24 hours per week of academic study if taking 9 credits in a given semester (each course is three credits in length). Note also that each MACS student must complete 12 credits toward a specialization (either Bible, Theology, or Pastoral/Church Ministries). The following schedule assumes the student begins in the fall of an odd numbered year. This plan would require two week-long visits to campus each semester, once early in the semester and the other toward the middle of the semester. The rest of the program can be managed online. Please note that CLD 510 requires an extra visit. This course is concluded by late September so as not to interfere with other Fall semester courses. For further details, please see YLTP Prospectus Page 2 Northwest Baptist Seminary

4 Youth Leadership Training Program First Fall Semester 12 credits (September through December) CLD 510 Introduction to Christian Leadership CLD 531 The Personal Life of the Christian Leader HIS 000 History Elective Elective Specialization Course First Spring Semester 9 credits (January through April) CLD 532 Power, Change, and Conflict BIE 505 Biblical Hermeneutics Elective Specialization Course First Summer Semester 6 credits (May through August) BIE 000 Old Testament Elective Elective Specialization Course Second Fall Semester 9 credits CLD 533 Mentoring, Team-Building and Equipping THS 571 Believer s Church Theology Elective Specialization Course Second Spring Semester 9 credits CLD 534 Vision, Strategic Planning, and Organizational Leadership THS 680 Christianity and Culture Elective Specialization Course Second Summer Semester 6 credits BIE 000 New Testament Elective MCS 810 Graduate Essay Graduation Options - ACTS policy states that a student must complete all but three credits of their program by the end of a spring semester in order to participate in graduation, providing that the outstanding course is completed in the subsequent summer. The graduate essay must be completed before the student can walk at graduation. Therefore, a student wishing to participate in graduation in April of the second year should begin the graduate essay (MCS 810) in the preceding summer or fall. YLTP Prospectus Page 3 Northwest Baptist Seminary

5 Financial Expectations Youth Leadership Training Program It is anticipated that the student will be a full-time intern employed by the church under the direction of the youth pastoral mentor throughout the duration of the program. While these arrangements can be negotiated the plan is that the church would provide basic living expenses (perhaps room and board) plus one third of the cost of ACTS/NBS tuition (not including SonLife fees). The other two thirds would be shared equally between the student and the Seminary by way of scholarship. Terms of employment are entirely within the province of the church and student. The Seminary reserves the right to limit the number of students enrolled in the program as funds allow. Students will be responsible for their own costs related to any additional courses required to meet program admission standards. Books and supplies are the responsibility of the student. TUITION COSTS The current rate for Diploma level courses is $175 per credit over a total 30 credit hours. $175 X 30 = $5,410* Church $1,803 Seminary $1,803 Student $1,803 The student and church would be responsible for a total of $1750 each, spread unevenly over the three semesters of the first year. This amount does not include the cost of books, supplies, or SonLife fees which would be over and above these costs and are the responsibility of the student and church. *NOTE: RES500 Research Strategies is an ACTS course and falls under ACTS current ACTS tuition rates. This adjustment is reflected in the figures above. The current rate for Masters level courses is $335 per credit over a total of 51 credit hours as determined by ACTS Seminaries. $335 X 51 = $17,085 Church $5,695 Seminary $5,695 Student $5,695 The student and church would be responsible for a total of $5115 each, spread unevenly over the seven semesters of the second and third year. This amount does not include the cost of books and supplies which would be over and above these costs; nor does it allow for inflationary increases from year to year. SUMMARY: reflecting a projected 5% yearly adjustment for inflation at the masters level given the student commencing this program in the Fall 2006 semester. Student Church Seminary Scholarship* Diploma Tuition $1,803 Diploma Tuition $1,803 Diploma Tuition $1,803 Masters Tuition $5,695 Masters Tuition $5,695 Masters Tuition $5,695 TOTAL TUITION: (+5% adjustment) $7,782 TOTAL TUITION: (+5% adjustment) $7,782 TOTAL SCHOLARSHIP: $7,782 SonLife Costs $1,124 SonLife costs are over and above the regular course tuition rates.
